Hi everyone - I feel like a creepy lurker person just reading every so often but never posting.:lol: I don't have anything even remotely interesting to say - just wanted to pop in and say hello. Looks like there's all sorts of interesting info being shared here again. I'll have to do some reading to catch up :)

Creepy??

Somehow I doubt you could be creepy even if you tried. :P

Jump in anytime....and yeah....you've always had interesting things to say in the past so I'm sure nothings changed....dont be a stranger. ;)

utterly flummoxed by this whole thing. I don't write long enough any more to lose a post.....

I wish I had an easier time explaining it. :(

Anyone w/ a computer geek in the house can make THEM read my post and then show anyone. PC talk should be same room, one keybd/mouse.

Never again "lose" a post!

......have not been sick ONCE in 18 months! (other than intestinal malfeasance.) :o No energy to shampoo carpets (my back is thanking me)....

Teach the dingos to shampoo!!

But seriously - I've wondered SO much about why I went years w/out any regular sickness, while much of the time being barely functional, or a few notches up from there.

I've imagined some topsy-turvy immune system overload activity crushing invaders like a kindergarten class caught wandering in the Bastogne (eck don't do the visual!), or just not being exposed to anything due to never going anywhere. No work; no fun; no nothin'.

Assuming it's not uncommon in this group to NOT get plain old sick from flu or colds or whatever - anyone have some comments or theories or general musings?

Rachel--24 Collaborator

Patti...sorry about the antibiotics making you feel bad....I hope it gets better and that Saturday comes soon for you. :)

Guess what I did today.

OMG...I ate soooooo many cookies! :o

I dunno what happened....I lost it again at work. There is always food to eat....barbeques, birthdays...always something...but I never eat anything.

Today they had some cookies for customers to sample at each checkstand...we were having a contest to see which store could sell the most cookies....they were some chewy chocolate cookies from the bakery.

I NEVER get tempted to eat anything from the bakery cuz the ingredient lists are always like a mile long....every "bad" thing you can think of.

Today I just grabbed a very small piece of cookie (they were broken up for samples). I sometimes get candy or different foods and just smell them...then throw them away....noone was expecting me to eat the piece of cookie....but then I just popped it in my mouth! :o

People were telling me to spit it out but I was like "Why would I do that...I'm already eating it!" :D

So yeah...I was thinking about gluten and mold and preservatives and food coloring and corn syrup and on and on.

When I went back up front I looked at the container and OMG....these cookies had like 4 ingredients!! They were totally gluten free and dairy free (except for "made in facility with" statement). They werent advertised as gluten-free.....they just happened to be...I was totally shocked. I randomly ate cookies and they turned out to be gluten-free....how cool is that!! :D

They had pecans though....and sugar. I did feel a bit molded but it didnt stop me from continuing to grab handfuls all day long!!

I couldnt stop...everyone was lecturing me...I even had my pockets full of cookies!

One of my co-workers got mad and said if I call in sick tomorrow she's coming to my house and beating my a**.

My boss got mad at me too....told me the cookies are for the customers and that I'm gonna make myself sick. I never stopped eating the cookies.....and I'm not even feeling very bad from it! I think I ate probably one full container all on my own.

I told my boss if I'm still alive tomorrow I'm gonna buy some. B)

Anyways...she said at least now maybe they know what they can give me when they have all the food out that I can never eat....I can have these chocolate cookies. :D

AndreaB Contributor

Rachel,

Those cookies sound good.....only 4 ingredients. Are all the safeways going to start carrying these. What's the four ingredients. You mentioned gluten free, pecans and sugar, oh I assume chocolate or cocoa were the last ingredient.

Patti,

I hope the days go by quickly for you. Not fun being sick from the meds you have to take. :(

tabasco32 Apprentice

WOW Rachel I can't believe you. I want to do that so bad, but no.

Anyways i am stopping everything. supplements, detoxing, everything, just eating squash and chicken. Everything makes me sick and i don't want it. I need to gain weight so I don't know. I wonder if this could be worse or better. Okay talk to yu later. Bye

ho-hum, ACTUAL sore throat and stiff neck today,

......have not been sick ONCE in 18 months!

Extra thought on this Susan - isn't it possible it's actually an indication of how normal your health & immune system have become?

You gotta be the healthiest one in Rville. My brain is good but over the weekend I actually hurt myself playing football (well, just playing catch really) w/ an 8yr old, then again playing frisbee w/ her, and yes, I somehow got hurt *sleeping*!! <_<

TOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o

I have always wanted to go to the Strawberry Music Festival. Dingo-sitting is the problem. Also, I think the crowds are pretty huge now, which deters me a great deal.

I never understood the deterring qualities of crowds for some. I love 'em!

Crowds better be HUGE!!!!!

Couldn't bring myself to mention before how I consider BIG events vital to my well-being.

Concerts! Pro sports! Festivals! Whatever!

(I'm definitely in SJ for JazzFest btw! Yay! :D )

Um, yeah, you are having the lucky month! I am going to look and see who's playing this year......OMG.......if any of my favorites are there, I"ll die.......

Oh Drat! As if my conscience isn't already working overtime.

Soozey! If u read this 1st, don't go see who's playing!! You have so much to live for!!!!!!

:lol::P

So far, sidekick will only give me Thurs schedule, but . . . . . .well . .. . . . umm.. ... . pretend it's another ratemyscat type of site. You don't really want to see.

Lackluster Spice here. -_-

Hehe Lucky Spice here!! ;):o

OMG Rachel!! That is so funny that you instinctivley grabbed the gluten-free cookies. You must have some built in radar by now that only lets you hone in on the good stuff. (Or at least the not so bad stuff :D )

I'm glad you got to enjoy some cookies for a change :) That's great!

Aw, thanks Andrea. I feel like all I've done is complain lately. It's been one thing after the other--but this is going to be it!

I'm beginning to sound pathetic :lol:

Oh...I forgot about the natural and artificial flavors. <_<

So yeah...there was 6 ingredients but still alot better than most of the ingredient lists.

I wasnt totally "unaffected" (some slight eye/skin burning and head pressure) but I'm not having MAJOR reactions....we'll see how I feel tomorrow.

I think the ingredient list looked like this....sugar, egg whites, pecans, cocoa (with alkali), natural and artificial flavors.

I think all the stores probably have them...they make them in the bakery so major cc issue. I think the labeling said made in the same facility as wheat, dairy, tree nuts, peanuts, etc.

Patti....NEVER could you sound pathetic. You're allowed to express your frusterations or talk about your bad days just like all of us do. ;) None of us are waking up each and everyday feeling like a million bucks (except maybe Tom)...so yeah....you're perfectly normal and not the least bit pathetic. :)

. . . . It's near Yosemite. Here's the link for directions you lucky goober! Open Original Shared Link

Whoaaaaaaaaa thx Bev!

Today I'm reduced to reading and typing @ stoplights and checkout lines.

Restocking fridge etc. (Oh and got guitar back from repair! Sounds fantastic if I do say so myself! :D ) <and I do>

have I mentioned I'm jealous? :P Kiss Yosemite ground (or at least a tree!) for me. I miss it there SSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much (that and Big Sur) :( Can I come back?

Ptui to the tree!

It always seemed weird I'd never gone to Yosemite. But I think it's the crowds. (Right after I post about loving crowds!)

Crowds in nature are wrong. Crowds assembled solely for viewing or participating in a BIG event are the good ones.

Had been to Calaveras Big Trees Park w/ a redwood stump the size of a parking lot tho. Little sidetrip after whitewatering somewhere. Oh, and the (I think "THE") car tunnel thru a tree is there.

And all that Alaska time - not only no crowds but most often only immed family for many miles. (Sometimes 200-300, sometimes 5)

Still - why no Yosemite for tom in 18 CA yrs? Befuddling, it is.

And to paraphrase a sentiment I read maybe at the light at McClintock & Baseline, when ARE u heading out to Big Sur and Yosemite??

Aren't those dang herxes on a schedule yet?

<cue music> California's the place you oughta be! . . . . . . :D:)

I'm familiar with these. I was more melancholy and I forget what else. My daughter is more melancholy although we haven't done the questions with her.

It's funny, because on the message board, our temperaments aren't so obvious. I'm a sanguine with a strong secondary choleric. I have strong characteristics of each ... hubby is 100% sanguine.

Oh no, Carla! Sorry to hear you have D. That's weird because after all my big C issues, I now have the D too since yesterday!! I don't know what all you are taking, I am cutting back on the vit C and magnesium. Is there anything like that you can adjust?

Well, I do take mag, but the d started right when I started the amoxy. I called the pharmacist today to double check the ingredients ... he sounded like he would be surprised if I didn't have D from the amoxy (I'm on high dose, with Probenecid to keep it in my bloodstream longer).

OMG!!!!! I can barely believe this!!!!! :o:o

I finally hooked up my stereo and was checking radio reception when some station said "11th caller gets 4 passes to the Strawberry Music Festival" and I called the # and actually WON!!!!

Sounds GREAT! How FUN! Can I go?

:lol::lol: I better stop posting ... I didn't know it was a requirement to be interesting. :(

Ugh--I'm here complaining again :P About 2 o clock, I started to feel like I had the flu. Aches and chills. Took Tylenol and layed down for a while, and felt better. Stomach getting iffy. The good thing is I only have to take this stuff till Saturday.....

:( Go rent all the movies you've wanted to see and take some relaxing sick days. :D

OMG...I ate soooooo many cookies! :o

Wow, did you get lucky! My grandmother makes those with egg whites, sugar and chocolate chips. They're GREAT and easy to make. ;) I can have Morgan post the recipe if you want it. It's SO EASY to eat a WHOLE container ... they don't fill you up at all, ever. You get a sugar rush before you get full. :D

Tonight at choir practice, the first one I've been to in MONTHS, the piano player, who works in a doctor's office, told me I was really starting to look HEALTHY! She could see it in my face, my hair, everything. I'm glad my hair is looking thicker, it was falling out in handfulls. :(

The bad thing is, the ortho put a band across my teeth to pull them closer together. It's rubber (or something like that) and rubs the inside of my mouth ... I can't easily move my mouth over it ... I couldn't really play ... good thing I went to practice, I'd hate to have learned that at Mass Sunday.

I'm going to try putting some wax over it. I guess Vaseline won't work since it's a petroleum product. I've for to figure out something ... we have three funerals this week, and they'd like me to start playing them. :)

Befuddling indeed. Those EVIL herxes are not a regularly scheduled event yey- but we just found out our friend in Sf is getting married Sept 29 in Sf so we are thinking about coming out then. If we do we will probably go out to Sonoma (I dream of calistoga at least once a week) Big Sur or Yosemite faster than you can can say Tuolumne Meadows!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (twoll-a-may meadows!)

Rachel- Cookies Yum! I need to eat more cookies (and take more Epsom salt baths......just don't like them in summer :( )

Ditto.

I'm already eating properly for it, but it suggests that I not take supplements for 3 days before...don't have to, but they suggest it as being better. Sp. that's my big dilema....to supplement or not to supplement befire the test. :P

Could you make due without them for 3 days. If not, then don't stop taking them. I'm a lot of help aren't I.

Do you remember what the basic description was for each of those. Hubby and I don't remember what his might have been. I know choleric or sanquine were one of them though.

That band on your teeth doesn's sound too fun or comfortable.

Three funerals.....that's a lot in one week. :(

Tuolumne Meadows!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (twoll-a-may meadows!)

Thanks for sounding that out. :D

And WOW that one across the street will be immense!!!

I can't really think of what they can fill up THAT much space w/!!!!!

P.S. D'oh I got truncated-post syndrome on this one!! (Then got it all back :P )

We have a very large church ... thousands.

I'll tell you what I can remember, it was a long time ago that I read the book ... then with losing my brain after that ... ... Both temperaments are extroverted.

Sanguine is very social, almost seems flighty. Gets excited about something, but doesn't always follow through. Some of my more sanguine characteristics are my hot pink glasses, my bright blue car and laptop, the fact that I talk to everyone, and the constantly changing hair color. Sanguines put people first ... they are often the ones to set up social events.

Cholerics set their minds to something and follow through. They are more serious, yet extroverted. They can plan a project and implement it. Think type A personality. So, I come across as flighty in my talk and behavior, but I follow through with projects and accomplish a lot. People think I'm not taking something seriously, but I am and inside I'm thinking through it.

This is why Lyme has been so hard for me. It has changed my entire personality. It's changing back though. :D For a while, people would be talking around me, and I'd have things to say, but wouldn't ... I didn't like to talk to anyone ... I hated talking on the phone to the point I was almost afraid of it.

Sherry,

I dont know if you'll see this since you're leaving town but I forgot to mention Epsom salt baths. These can be very helpful if you have low cysteine. Epsom salts are known to promote detoxification.

Thanks Rachel. Is there another more generic name for epsom salts? The trick is to find it here in China, and then, I don't have a bathtub at home. lol

If anybody knows, could you PM me? That way I won't miss it.

Carla, yeah, I was getting that it was abx related. Was just wondering if you stopped the mag temporarily while you are doing the amoxy if it might help?

Lisa, I really really hope you can turn a corner soon. Hang in there.

Okay, that's it until I get back from my trip!

Rachel-

Now seven days !!! I am so happy for you not only that you will be getting treatment but about how optimistic to sound. It says alot about who you are that after everyhting you have been through you still can be this way now!!! I can;t wait to hear about the treatment.

Mia....I read your post this morning and I was thinking about it today. Yeah...I'm really excited and somehow...through it all....I've remained optimistic. I guess I just always feel good about what I'm doing....even if I'm not seing immediate or dramatic results.

I honestly dont know why I just dont feel like giving up on some days...but I just never do....I'm sure a HUGE part of that is because of you guys.

Also....more than 2 years back when I was at my worst and started praying...I KNOW that my prayers were heard. I wasnt asking for a "cure"...I wasnt even asking to live at that point. The only thing I was asking for was answers...thats all I wanted no matter how bad it might be....I just wanted to know *everything* that was going on that the Dr.'s couldnt tell me.

I felt like from that point on I was guided toward the answers. Literally the next day everything just totally changed directions for me.

I just felt that I was gonna have to go through some really rough stuff along the way but for some reason ever since that day I had a strong feeling that I would get well again. I felt like I would have to work real hard and whenever I get "stuck"...I will get more guidance but in the end (however long it might take) I will be healthy....and also a changed person.

I know its kind or corny and I've never really been very spiritual in my life...but thats exactly what happened and since then I've been alot stronger.

Oh...and before all that I wasnt the least bit scientific either. I have no clue where that came from .....if it was there before it was most definately hiding deep within me....maybe it was hanging out with the Lyme. B)

Ok my new thing is I really want to get an ionic foot bath done.

Yeah...my new thing is that I wanna do EVERYTHING....except I barely have time for my spiceship.

Let us know about how gross the water gets...if it gets gross enough I might wanna try it.

(Sing to the tune of "If You Like Pina Colada")

If you like barium colada

And being in abdominal pain

If you are not into yoga

And need a reason to complain

:lol::lol:

Thats funny but hopefully I'll one day be singing the song the way it should be sung....with no mention of bariums or pain. :P I do LOVE pina colada's....it would be TRAGIC if I could never have one again!! :o

Maybe I should wear a mask when I dust from now on. Do you think I should wear it while vaccuuming, too?

Jin.....I totally wear my mask when vacuuming...it helps alot! HOWEVER, two weeks ago I bought a new vacuum....they just keep getting more and more fancy. This one is especially for pets.....ummm...well...not to be actually used ON the pets....but you know what I mean. :P

I havent had to use my mask with the new vacuum :D ....it must have special powers that my previous vacuum lacked.

GI DR. HAS ALWAYS BEEN THINKING MICROSCOPIC COLITIS...

THE OTHER SITES WERE FROM MEDICAL JOURNALS ETC..BUT YOU GUYS KNOW HOW I'VE BEEN A MESS SINCE I'VE BEEN OFF MY 8 EXTRA STRENGTH EXCEDRINE FOR 8 DAYS ...2 MORE TO GO...FOR FIBRO AND BONE AND MUSCLE PAIN...WELL LOOK AT THIS ARTICLE.

I KNOW...PEPTO...THE TREATMENT OF CHOICE.. BUT SOME ONE ELSE ON C.COM JUST POSTED ABOUT THIS LAST WEEK...DR SAID THIS WAS THE TREATMENT.

Judy....I know nothing about colitis....microscopic or any other kind.

I did post some scientificness about Pepto Bismol in that Pepto thread though. :) I first learned of Pepto's ability to heal from one of Laura's post earlier this year.

Anyways....when I was on "vacation" I somehow ended up in the Pepto thread.

Wish I had more info. to share with you. :(

Thanks for the replies. I already use a gluten-free brand of buckwheat flakes I occasionally get itchy bumps. I'm still reviewing all my food products. I occasionally eat prepackaged gluten-free crackers and cookies, so I'll stop using those. I use buckwheat flakes and Doves Farm flour as a base for baking. Would you recommend eliminating those as well? It's a constant search.
    • Wheatwacked
Gluten free food is not fortified with vitamins and minerals as regular food is.  Vitamin deficiencies are common especially in recently diagnosed persons,  Get a 25(OH)Vitamin D blood test. And work on raising it.  The safe upper blood level is around 200 nmol/L.    "Low serum levels of 25(OH)D have been associated with increased risk of autoimmune disease onset and/or high disease activity. The role of vitamin D in autoimmune diseases   🏋️‍♂️Good job!   I find the commercial milk will give me mild stomach burn at night, while pasture/grassfed only milk does not bother me at all.  While you are healing, listen to your body.  If it hurts to eat something, eat something else.  You may be able to eat it later, or maybe it is just not good for you.  Lower your Omega 6 to 3 ratio of what you eat.  Most omega 6 fatty acids are inflammation causing.    The standard american diet omega 6:3 ratio is estimated at upward of 14:1.  Thats why fish oil works

I  notice a reaction to tea bags, possibly due to gluten or other substances. Is this recognizable?
    • trents
The blood tests you had done are not the main ones. The two main ones are the "Total IGA" (to check for IGA deficiency) and the "TTG-IGA". Current guidelines for the "gluten challenge" when people have been gluten free for a significant time period are the daily consumption of at least10g of gluten (about the amount in 4-6 slices of wheat bread) for at least two weeks leading up to the day of the blood draw. That should give you some perspective.
    • Xravith
Thank you, really.  I took a test for DGP-IgA and DGP-IgG. Effectively, it is not enough to discard Celiac Disease. I was consuming gluten until then, I only started gluten-free some days ago, when the symptoms became horrible and now I feel considerably better, which is a second confirmation that gluten is the main problem. It's been more than 4 years I have the same suspect, when I first thought gluten was causing me problems, I made a gluten-free diet for a year, I felt really good as never before. However, neither I or my parents were well informed about Celiac disease, so none of us tried to make further exams. My father suffer digestive problems and other members of my family as well. Unfortunately, no one have ever been tested for Celiac disease. I'll have to restart eating gluten in the next weeks, so I can make a serious blood test in laboratory, hopefully between two or three months.
