Kassandra,

I have done pilates before and it is fun. They only thing is they are not on tv til afternoon, and if i dont get it in first thing in the morning then i wont do it, i cant work out after i shower, im odd like that lol. But maybe when i start taking baths at night it wont matter, once the kids go back to school i can get into some kind of schedule.

Ok i started the candida diet today and my body is freaking out. My insides feel all jittery and i got an headache and my eyes are kinda filmy. I was researching and they said u can have an herx from the candida diet. But would it already be working this fast. I started at 5:30 this morning and its now 3. Is there anyting i can do to feel better. I do have more energy tho, just feel really odd?

paula

I guess I don't have that problem because we have Tivo! :P Do you have any kind of DVR of sorts? If not, you could always but a DVD or two on Amazon for really cheap! I do my workout before I shower...why shower then get sweaty?!

I think it's possible that you can already feel "funny" on the Candida diet...I did it reallllly strictly once for a day at school and I thought I was going to die! You can take epsom salt baths to help...I think limit that to 2 a day...if you need that many!

I actually LOVE that aspect of yoga.

I used to...no patience, it's the stupid Lyme brain! I'm telling you...lol.

The first time I went on the diet, I felt like a mack truck hit me. I had a terrible headache that lasted several days and definitely had body aches and foggy head. My eye sockets hurt. It COULD start that fast, I think mine started within a few days and unfortunately it lasted about 2 weeks.

omg 2 weeks, i cant live like this for 2 weeks. I feel like im on speed and cant see lol. I was supposed to go watch my kids play hockey and i was afraid to drive and get pulled over and they think i was on drugs lol.

My body does hurt and my chest is beating faster.

So this is all normal, i shouldnt go into anxiety mode and think im dying lol

kassandra,

How did u function at school, how did u sit in your seat? I lay here for like 5 minutes then jump up and go clean something lol

Dear Everyone,

I just now got caught up with my reading. I am going upstairs to organize my thoughts now so I can type up my column. Not having internet for two days last week really put me behind! Despite how terribly ill I was on Christmas from a triple-whammy by apparently accidentally inhaling the flour from Dad's pancakes and bread (although I stayed out of the kitchen for an hour prior to re-entering the room.)

Too much fat did not help the situation. After I began limiting the Lay's Stax, and finally began recovering a few days after Christmas, I am doing a bit better. Still, some reactions seem quite random. Removing dairy has not seemed to help. My gifts were wonderful at least. My brother got me a J. Lo celiac disease, and a Josh Groban celiac disease. Then, he got me batteries for my new celiac disease player/AM/FM radio!

I also got money from my grandparents, and a beautiful card. Mom and Dad also got me a little something. New Year's was pretty quiet. Dart and I stayed home and I put on my make-up for my annual date with Dick! I was quite stunning if I do say so myself! HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

Sincerely,

Jin

I didn't...lol! I actually had to drop out of school and now I do online school...so I can sit in bed with my laptop and do homework...well, in theory! LOL!

Carla and Sherry swear by those coffee enemas...you could definitely try them. It may help get the toxins out of your body faster.

HAHA! Look at what the computer does when you type C-D. It thinks Celiac disease...I was really confused at first.

Sorry to hear about your reaction Jin. That's no fun!

Paula, water would be good to help flush your system out.

I like the effects of coffee enemas ... they seem to help.

If you really can't take the diet, eat a piece of fruit, it will slow the die-off .... but, it does feed the yeast, but probably not as much as you were before. Eating fruit would be a similar tactic to someone on abx having a herx and cutting back on the abx.

 !!! I never did have mine tested...I probably SHOULD have it tested so I'll know for next time. I saw "rice" again today and I've been off for 7 days.:P

You know, I saw more worm several days after being off it, too. That's how I know I need to do more! I'll ask Dr. H what he thinks when I see him (Jan. 10th).

Carla, so I guess you sailed through any possible no sleeping problems from the Humaworm with your ambien?!?!?
Yep!

Oh, and I wanted to tell Donna, the other night I took an Ambien CR ... after an HOUR I still wasn't asleep, so I went ahead and took a half a regular Ambien ... fell asleep right away. So, you might have better luck on the regular Ambien.

After i drank 2 large glasses of water the jittery feeling went away, but now i just hurt. So after dinner im taking an epson bath and see if i feel better, then im going to be bed early.

I will keep that in mind about the fruit, do u know which fruit has the less amount of sugar, that way if i have to eat some fruit i wont be feeding the little demom as much as he wants lol.

I would liek to try enemas im just not sure i can give myself one and hubby said he wont do it for me, i have given them but never got one.

Yeah .... I skipped Christmas Day, and had a cold .... my Lyme flared terribly for the next two days and after each coffee enema I felt better. After two, I felt fine again, except for the cold. It made such a big difference that Morgan did one when she caught the cold .... then did a second the next day because the first had helped her so much.

She thought it was the scariest thing putting the coffee up there!

My friend asked about the MMR and her daughter had it last March. Does this one get repeated?

Hi, everyone in Rachelville! Quick New Year's Drive-by, here! Nice to see you all!

The MMR IS repeated, but the only reason it is is because 5% of the people who get it don't mount an immune response, so a second is required for everyone. This is according to Merck's website, BTW--they're the ones who make the MMR. There are no studies indicating that the second dose does anything beneficial for those 5%, but it does make more $ for the pharm industry..

Your friend should request that her pediatrician do a blood titer before kindergarten (which is when the second dose is required). That way, she can prove that she has immunity and doesn't need the second shot.

The most compelling study linking the MMR with autism was done in London by Andrew Wakefield--and the linking factor was leaky gut...but you probably already knew that.

If the flu shot caused any problems the first time, the likelihood of problems the second time are higher, I believe. Ursa Major has posted a lot of information about problems with the flu shot, and I believe there is a lot of info at NVIC.org. There is a thimerosal-free version, but you have to ask for it, and usually you have to pay extra for it. There are also doctors who tell you that it is thimerosal-free when it isn't. I had one nurse swear up and down that the shot she was about to give my daughter was thimerosal-free. I made her get the paper that came with the vial, and showed her where it listed thimerosal. If it doesn't come in an individual-dose ampule (if it comes in a multi-dose vial), then it is preserved with thimerosal.

Berries are low in sugar. :)

You can definitely give yourself one! Just get an enema bag, lie on the bathroom floor, use lots of lubricant, hang the bag on the doorknob, and let the coffee run in! It's not hard. Have paper towels within reach and a clock that you can see so you can time 15 minutes. You might want to put on some music, time goes slowly.

. How soon after the birth are the kids given the Hep. B shot??

My boys were given the hep b shot when they were 4 hours old. And, no, NOBODY in our family was at ANY risk for it.

Hey everyone

Needed to get out of the house. My mom's husband is there today. He is usually gone on wednesday's but because of the holiday he is there. All he does is smoke pot alll day and it make me ill.

Hey about the epsom salt bath's, Rachel do you still do those? I was told not to by D. because of the magnesium sulfate that's in it. Sulfate is toxic to us right now isn't it?

Hey what do you get when you cross an elephant and a rhino?

ELEPHINO. :D HA!

uh I ffeeelll sick

P.S. does anyone else have lower right quadrant pain?

Rachel, question for your friend:

Was her daughter breastfed or bottle-fed? THat may have some bearing on the asthma. I have read that asthma can be triggered by dairy, and we know from this board that it can also be a sign of gluten intolerance.

Also--if anyone had asked me if I had digestive problems before I went gluten-free, I would have said "NO." I didn't realize that I had digestive problems until after they went away. They were mild enough for me to ignore.

My husband insisted that our #2 son's severe eczema was heat rash, and said he always had it as a child, too. Interesting how it disappeared when gluten was removed, and immediately returned when gluten was reintroduced, and disappeared again when gluten was removed....

Sorry to be posting so much on what was supposed to be a quick drive-through, but my point is that it is possible that your friend is missing subtle symptoms. Heck, if I didn't realized that I was bloated,or that I had alternating mild diarrhea/constipation, isn't it possible to miss those symptoms in your child????

The toe walking would concern me. When a child is bright, and has a close relationship with the parents, it is easy to miss social manifestations of autism/Asperger's. My #1 son's problems were first missed, then dismissed, and only diagnosed after I insisted that they assess him at the pre-school instead of one-on-one.

Happy New Year!!!

You havent realized yet that i am not normal lol. Im thinking it had to do with i really havent beein doing that much but cleaning the last 2 months. So today i put my body in overdrive with the lemon water then the diet change and the exercising and quitting smoking(ok trying to). I do think my anxiety kicked in some to and made it worse. I no longer have the filmy eyes and am no longer jittery. I will see what tommorow brings.

I use to get like this when i was the 6wbm diet to after i ate breakfast. I am not one to eat breakfast, so my body is confused about that to.

Should i drink lemon water more then once an day and will have any side effects from the epson bath, if so im wondering if should wait on it.

I don't think that would matter. My LLMD's PA called me to remind me to drink lemon water to help with herxing. She said that I needed to drink it through a straw though because it can strip the enamel on your teeth, and that's the last thing you need a problem with. I don't think there's a "limit" to how much you can drink. I could be wrong tho...Carla may know.

tabasco32 Apprentice

I heard that lemon water was good too. For your stomach and liver.

What about this reabsorbtion of toxins. I wonder if this is happening to me to.

I can't get rid of any of it. I take showers and I scrape all this thick toxins or something off my skin.

Do you think avacado's conventional and banana's are toxic?

Paula,

Definately drink more water. This is like a detox. when the candida die they put off a lot of toxins in the body. Activated charcoal, coffee enemas, sauna's, detox baths, sweating - are all good. Vitamin C, minerals, ect.

I try to do it after a BM ... I've read that it's better that way .... you don't want it to replace regular bowel movements.

For herxing, you can drink as much as you want .... you will not like the taste when you've had enough .... all of a sudden it tastes gross.

Thanks carla and kassandra.

Maybe ill drink some in the morning and at night and maybe after awhile add some in during the day. Im sensitive to lemons casue when i was pg with my second son, all he wanted me to drink was lemonade, i drank so much of it, i got gestational diabetsis with him, well that wasnt the only reason why i got gd, but it was a high contributing factor to that.

I'm not sure if the Dr. wants her to have the flu shot because of her getting sick so much...or if its because of her asthma. Does the flu dhot help asthma??

My concern is that mercury actually causes asthma. It was brought up in a few of the books I've read. Since she had an asthma attack right after her birth...it makes me wonder. How soon after the birth are the kids given the Hep. B shot?? That one does have mercury...so I'm wondering if she was reacting to the shot...or if she was just born with asthma for another reason.

She did get sick after her last flu shot so her mom doesnt want to do another one. Is it important for a kid with asthma to have the shot?? I dont want to tell her the wrong thing but my gut says to stay away from the flu shot.

Some dr's do think that people/kids with asthma benefit from the flu shot because they have such a predisposition to get pneumonia. I personally think it would be better to look into why she has asthma to begin with. Does she eat/drink dairy? Gluten? How about sugar? When Aiden was a baby he was on his way to asthma. Getting the cat out of the house helped as well as the gluten, corn, soy and dairy free diet and supplementing with probiotics. Now he's fine (in that department). He inherited my yeast issues so that was contribuatory.

I personally do not agree with the flu shot being given so friviously. (is that a word?) I guess if you are really sick then maybe but then is it really going to help or harm you? I just don't know.

No coincidence. Recent revisions to gluten challenge guidelines call for the daily consumption of at least 10g of gluten (about the amount in 4-6 slices of wheat bread) for a minimum of 3 weeks. If possible, I would extend that two weeks to ensure valid testing.
    • SilkieFairy
Thank you both for the replies. I decided to bring back gluten so I can do the blood test. Today is Day #2 of the Challenge. Yesterday I had about 3 slices of whole wheat bread and I woke up with urgent diarrhea this morning. It was orange, sandy and had the distinctive smell that I did not have when I was briefly gluten free. I don't know if it's a coincidence, but the brain fog is back and I feel very tired.

@Jane02, I hear you about the kale and collard greens.  I don't do dairy and must eat green leafies, too, to get sufficient calcium.  I must be very careful because some calcium supplements are made from ground up crustacean shells.  When I was deficient in Vitamin D, I took high doses of Vitamin D to correct the deficiency quickly.  This is safe and nontoxic.  Vitamin D level should be above 70 nmol/L.  Lifeguards and indigenous Pacific Islanders typically have levels between 80-100 nmol/L.   Levels lower than this are based on amount needed to prevent disease like rickets and osteomalacia. We need more thiamine when we're physically ill, emotionally and mentally stressed, and if we exercise like an athlete or laborer.  We need more thiamine if we eat a diet high in simple carbohydrates.  For every 500 kcal of carbohydrates, we need 500-1000 mg more of thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  If there's insufficient thiamine the carbs get stored as fat.  Again, recommended levels set for thiamine are based on minimum amounts needed to prevent disease.  This is often not adequate for optimum health, nor sufficient for people with absorption problems such as Celiac disease.  Gluten free processed foods are not enriched with vitamins like their gluten containing counterparts.  Adding a B Complex and additional thiamine improves health for Celiacs.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Thiamine helps the mitochondria in cells to function.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins.  They are all water soluble and easily excreted if not needed. Interesting Reading: Clinical trial: B vitamins improve health in patients with coeliac disease living on a gluten-free diet https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19154566/ Safety and effectiveness of vitamin D mega-dose: A systematic review https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34857184/ High dose dietary vitamin D allocates surplus calories to muscle and growth instead of fat via modulation of myostatin and leptin signaling https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38766160/ Safety of High-Dose Vitamin D Supplementation: Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Controlled Trial https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31746327/ Vitamins and Celiac Disease: Beyond Vitamin D https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11857425/ Investigating the therapeutic potential of tryptophan and vitamin A in modulating immune responses in celiac disease: an experimental study https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40178602/ Investigating the Impact of Vitamin A and Amino Acids on Immune Responses in Celiac Disease Patients https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10814138/

Thank you so much @knitty kitty for this insightful information! I would have never considered fractionated coconut oil to be a potential source of GI upset. I will consider all the info you shared. Very interesting about the Thiamine deficiency.  I've tracked daily averages of my intake in a nutrition software. The only nutrient I can't consistently meet from my diet is vitamin D. Calcium is a hit and miss as I rely on vegetables, dark leafy greens as a major source, for my calcium intake. I'm able to meet it when I either eat or juice a bundle of kale or collard greens daily haha. My thiamine intake is roughly 120% of my needs, although I do recognize that I may not be absorbing all of these nutrients consistently with intermittent unintentional exposures to gluten.  My vitamin A intake is roughly 900% (~6400 mcg/d) of my needs as I eat a lot of sweet potato, although since it's plant-derived vitamin A (beta-carotene) apparently it's not likely to cause toxicity.  Thanks again!
    • knitty kitty
Hello, @Jane02,  I take Naturewise D 3.  It contains olive oil.   Some Vitamin D supplements, like D Drops, are made with fractionated coconut oil which can cause digestive upsets.  Fractionated coconut oil is not the same as coconut oil used for cooking.  Fractionated coconut oil has been treated for longer shelf life, so it won't go bad in the jar, and thus may be irritating to the digestive system. I avoid supplements made with soy because many people with Celiac Disease also react to soy.  Mixed tocopherols, an ingredient in Thornes Vitamin D, may be sourced from soy oil.  Kirkland's has soy on its ingredient list. I avoid things that might contain or be exposed to crustaceans, like Metagenics says on its label.  I have a crustacean/shellfish/fish allergy.  I like Life Extension Bioactive Complete B Complex.  I take additional Thiamine B 1 in the form Benfotiamine which helps the intestines heal, Life Extension MegaBenfotiamine. Thiamine is needed to activate Vitamin D.   Low thiamine can make one feel like they are getting glutened after a meal containing lots of simple carbohydrates like white rice, or processed gluten free foods like cookies and pasta.   It's rare to have a single vitamin deficiency.  The water soluble B Complex vitamins should be supplemented together with additional Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine and Thiamine TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) to correct subclinical deficiencies that don't show up on blood tests.  These are subclinical deficiencies within organs and tissues.  Blood is a transportation system.  The body will deplete tissues and organs in order to keep a supply of thiamine in the bloodstream going to the brain and heart.   If you're low in Vitamin D, you may well be low in other fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin A and Vitamin K. Have you seen a dietician?
