Dear Everyone,

I have not gotten any more catching up done since the other day. Yesterday I had a doctor's appointment with Dr. D. It went very well. :D He was glad to hear that the okra pepsin is doing what it is supposed to, and moving some mucus out of the colon. Dr. D is going to add a new supplement containing bile salts and bentonite clay.

Due to the house payment and home equity, I have a terrible feeling I am not getting my WBs done again this Monday. :( Dad has found a way he can get 40 percent off on his glucose testing strips, though. :) Every little bit helps! Considering that was actually his largest expense with the Diabetes, this offers some financial relief.

Yesterday, Mom and I poked around trying to find a low-carbohydrate candy for Dad, but all of the sugar-free candies were loaded with carbohydrates, and they can have a laxative effect. I cannot help but wonder if the Splenda Dad has been taking in so much of is causing more stomach issues for him than he used to have.

It did not help that he got food poisoning again the other week. :( He ate at a Mexican restaurant. I asked him if he ate anything with salsa in it, and he had. I asked him how much he wanted to bet that Guillermo got his salsa ingredients from Mexico because they were barrato? Now the reports are saying that bell peppers are suspected as well with the Salmonella poisoning.

Lately I have been doing better since getting my clear quartz crystal necklace. They help prevent you from absorbing other people's negative energy, which psychic sensitives are prone to. I have read up on Indigo Children, and even scored 100 percent on the test! :o This validates so much! My empath abilities actually are so strong, that when I get upset, my emotions fog out all rationality. For instance, the attack I experienced in Lyme Chat a few months ago upset me so much I could not even help Kassandra translate a basic sentence in her Spanish homework!

I am extraordinarily good at foreign languages, especially Spanish. However, my empath abilities actually are so strong that they dominate me at times. Now that I have this necklace, that has helped. The path of self-awareness has brought so much to light. There are things about myself I never understood that I now do. Being an Indigo certainly makes sense.

Sincerely,

Jin

It's good to get an update Jin. Good to hear that the supp's you are taking are helping.

Happy Birthday Julie!

Paula,

The color in the brackets at the top of your sig line needs to be at the front and end of what you want to color.

Hilite the whole text and then choose the color. Don't forget to delete the one on the top.

Dear Andrea,

It is good that the supplements are doing the job. Getting off of the PPIs will be nice, but it could take a while. Right now, the focus is gut repair, and then other things. Dr. D knows there is a lot going on with my system. I am just glad this physician seems to have the same train of thought I do about wellness.

Dear Kassandra,

Happy really late birthday! I wanted to wish you a happy 18th birthday sooner, but time did not permit. Can you believe you are that old already? I cannot even believe it is July again! WTH? Time goes by much too fast for my liking.

Dear Julie,

Happy birthday! Do you have any special treats planned? Birthday cake with tons of icing would be so good right now! The yeast would love that, would it not? As if my daily candy bar habit is not bad enough.

Sincerely,

Jin

Im happy your supps are helping you.

Everyone

Im going to try out my enzymes tonight. Im so excited and scared lol

paula

Dear Paula,

Good luck with your enzymes! I know exactly what you mean about being nervous and excited at the same time. New supplements may or may not set well, and you are afraid they will aggravate the situation at times instead of help them. When your system is extremely out of whack, that is reasonable. I am nervous about trying my new supplement as well, but all I can do is try!

I recall you asking about how to remove arsenic from your system a while back. Most of the time, you must see a toxicologist for that. Dr. Amy is likely qualified for this. A classmate of mine in college had to go to a toxicologist for exposure to Aspergillus and Penicillium, as well as having Candida. They work on a variety of things. Since arsenic is a metal, chelation is probably recommended. If you have metal fillings in your teeth, they will have to come out first.

Your water may only be one source of arsenic. Many children get poisoned because they play on wooden decks. A common ingredient in wood treatments is copper arsenate. Seizures, personality changes, muscular problems, and so much more has been linked to arsenic poisoning in children. What occurs is the child will play on the deck, and then accidentally ingest it whenever they eat or put their fingers in their mouths. Adults probably do this all the time without realizing it, too! Make sure you wash your hands thoroughly after touching any form of wood.

Sincerely,

Jin

Well i took them and omg are they supposed to leave an nasty taste in your mouth lol. Not like that was bad enough then i put my hands in my mouth and i just cut some jalepenos lol. My anxiety started to kick in a little due to it being something new, but I think I am ok lol.

I never thought of wood. We have lots of wood in the house due to crowm molding and other wood aspects in the house since it is an old victoian home. Maybe part of it came from the old deck. I did spend so much time on it.

I still have my fillings so i have to wait on that. I did do some reading and it said the best thing to do was to eat onions, beans. legumes and garlic, cause it binds with the arsenic. I think that is why these foods would make me feel sick. It must of been more of an herx then an reaction.

Paula,

Julie had a good suggestion. When I was having leaky gut and candida really bad, I would react to all kinds of foods. Someone suggested to me to eat what I KNOW I can eat safely. So, what I did is I took out the top 10 allergy foods: gluten, peanuts, corn, soy, dairy, eggs, ect. Then I ate what I knew I had not reacted to in the past. I would only use olive oil, salt and possible lemon to season.

After about 2 weeks I started to add back foods one at a time. I would wait a few days to see if there was a reaction. Usually I would feel any type of reaction within a day. That is sort of how I concluded what I should and shouldn't eat for a while until I healed my leaky gut problem and dealt more with the candida.

I still felt bad because I went on such a strict diet, i had a lot of die off from the yeast. But - no food related reactions- which for me was bloating, heart palpatations, extreme itchiness, throat felt like it was closing up - although it never did. It was still scary! I think I had lots of yeast in my throat - but not sure.

April

April and Paula-

I just want to chime in and say that I did the same. For about a year now I was very strict and have been off of gluten, soy, casein, high oxalates, corn, nightshades, eggs, nuts, some vinegars, mushrooms and yeast. I occassionally try to reintroduce a food group and have had varying amounts of success, but I can eat a lot more now. However, whenever I start to feel really crappy, I go back to what I know and keep my diet really simple...and start reintroducing again. I keep a food/symptom journal and that really helps...for each meal, I write down EVERY ingredient and then later on, write down the symptoms, if any. I also write down all of my supplements and meds and if anything gets increased or decreased, I record that as well.

I have the same side effects as April, heart palpitations, tightness in chest (especially from eggs and yeast), itchiness, I also get this weird thing where my tongue swells just a little and i also get severe soreness in joints...but strangely enough, not from nightshades.

Through trial and error, I have about 10 foods that are a sure fire problem every time; Coffee (even decaf and gluten-free of course), eggs, yeast, cider vinegar, beets, mushrooms, dairy, gluten (of course), fruit juice of any kind, red meat (too hard to digest), all nuts except almonds, I think.

I hope this helps- For me it is good to know that I can exert a little, just a little control over my symptoms and I can do that with food. :P

Paula,

The wood on the interior of your home should be fine - it would not be treated wood. It would be raw wood either painted or stained. The wood on the deck would most likely be treated to prevent it from rotting. They have since banned pressure treating with arsenic products, although who knows if what they use now is safe. I haven't looked into it in a long long time.

I did order an arsenic test kit from www.leadtesting.org for fairly cheap. I haven't used it yet. I could send it to you if you like?

The terrible thing is my mom used old railroad ties to outline her garden and my sandbox back in the early 80's. They are Still THERE! I can't imagine what it leached into the soil over the years and next to her garden too!! BAD!

Which enzymes are you taking? Just AFP Peptizyde? Are you taking anything for carbs, starches, fats? Zyme Prime is the one which goes along with it.

I actually dont notice a bad taste from them...and I take them without the capsule. It could be that I'm just used to them now.

I actually LIKE the taste of No Fenol...I can eat that one all day. :D

Paula,

my son excreted a lot of arsenic too, in his urinalysis (unprovoked). I know its scary.

I have had very good luck with enzymes so hopefully it will help. I would steer clear of trying them at the same time as cheese because if you do have a reaction you won't know which one it was. :)

Julie,

Happy Birthday! I hope you had a good day!

There have been a lot of birthdays lately. I am sorry I can't keep up with it!

My daughter just turned 8 (yea makes me feel old) and she had a sleepover tonight with 4 girls. Just got them to sleep - FINALLY! They were having trouble going to sleep. I give my daughter valerian root/magnesium combo pill when she can't go to sleep, but I won't give stuff to other kids unless I have permission from their parent(s). So, I gave them a glass of milk. I only had raw milk so hopefully that will be fine.

Tonight we had ordered out pizza for the birthday party from a local restaurant. It is normally very good, but tonight it tasted like the sauce was made from canned tomato soup!

I NEVER order out pizza because of the dairy and gluten! Now I feel like I wasted my once in a blue moon opportunity! I took 2 enzymes instead of 1 and I was fine.

Gotta go to bed - I am sure those kids willl be up early!

Thanks everyone, you guys are the best!

I did have a good day, it was pretty low key. I didn't cook or bake anything, but I might next weekend when I celebrate with my family, everyone was tied up this weekend.

Lisa, you crack me up! I hope your cousin had a good b-day too. Your baked goods sound yummy :)

April, Happy Birthday to your daughter, a sleepover sounds fun! I hope the pizza doesn't affect you too much, hopefully the enzymes will help.

Hi everyone, I thought Id stop in to say hi and give an update. The enzyme topic caught my eye.

I Tried Dr. Houston's enzymes back in 2005, they made me feel sick, and headaches got worse. I think I was taking the protein breakdown digestive enzyme, so I gave up on them.

I spoke to his wife on the phone, she was very nice, and she sent me free samples of their pills and a dvd of Dr. Houston PhD. giving lectures on enzymes.

I would like to try no phenol and perhaps the new one Rachel is taking. But I am worried about Apillagus fungal enzymes,,,because I've reacted to them before. but Ive always had problems with bromilian and papaya. (forgive my spelling!)

I think there is something to salycilates. In the PI sheet for the brith controll Im taking it says that it blocks or reduces the absorption of salycilates, maybe there is a correlation or just an added bonus, because I am chemical, food, environmentally sensitive too.

I pretty much avoid preservatives and additives, anyway, but I went to the failsafe, and feingold diets websites and read about them, and I had a lot of it I could relate to.

I think I'll order the no-phenol, when I get paid! It can't hurt, and I'm all for feeling better.

Hope you all are doing well.

Goodnight~

Ok good. Well the wood was so old and rotted on the porch. Im not sure it was treated. The deck in the back was not stained or anything.

I will look into that test. I would hate for me to send the one you have and then need it lol

I am so glad u said about railroad ties. I was just going to landscape my garden with them. My dad even went and got some fromhis friend for free. I will have to tell him I cant have them now.

Omg all you had to do was take 2 enzymes and eat pizza. I cant wait for that day lol

No, it's not one of the one's that's online (that I know of) since it's not from the most recent season. The library would probably have it, though. Wikipedia has a list of which diseases correspond to which episodes of House.

Hello everyone! Been a while since I posted. The past few moths have been the best by for recovery for myself. I have been the least bloated I have ever been, my constant throat clearing is almost gone, I have stopped almost all medication I was prevously taking (was taking vyvanse for adhd, pristiq for anxiety,fomotadine/blexten for histamine blockers and singulair). Only thing I take now is Tecta. I also no longer get any rashes after eating. Things are going very well. Most success came actually once I upped my B12 daily dose to 5,000 mcg. I do have one thing I am un able to figure out and want to see if anyone else has this issue or has experience working around it. Ever since I was born I have always had a issue getting fruits and veggies down. No matter how hard I tried, it would always result in gagging or throwing up. Always just thought I was a picky eater. Now that my stomach and system has healed enough that I can feel when something is off almost istantly, I notice that after eating most fruits (sometimes I am ok with bananas) and veggies, my stomach instantly starts burning and my heart starts to pound and I get really anxious as if my body doesnt know what to do with what just enetered it. So I am thinking now that this is what probably was going on when I was born and my body started rejecting it before which caused this weird sensory issue with it causing the gagging. Hoping someone has some exprience with this as well because I would love to be able to enjoy a nice fruit smoothie once in a while haha. Thanks everyone!

i know i've been rather cynical and sad about being fully diagnosed in june 2025, but my boyfriend has been consistently showing me the wonderful world that is gluten free cooking and baking. in the past couple of days he's made me a gluten free rice paper-wrapped spanakopita "pastry", plus a wonderful mac and cheese bechamel-ish sauce with gluten free pasta (san remo brand if you're in australia/if you can get your hands on it wherever you are).  those meals are notably gluten free, but mainly he's been making me easy gluten free meals - chili mince with white rice and sour cream, chicken soup with homemade stock from the chicken remains, and roast chickens with rice flour gravy and roast veggies. i'm a bit too thankful and grateful lol. how lucky could i possibly be? and, of course, for those who don't have someone to cook for them, it's quite easy to learn to cook for yourself. i've been making a lot of meals for us too. honestly, cooking is pretty darn fun! knowing basic knife skills and sanitary practices are all you really need. experimenting with spices will help you get on track to creating some really flavourful and yummy dishes. coeliac is a pain, but you can use it to your advantage. healthier eating and having fun in the kitchen are major upsides. much luck to all of you! let's be healthy!

That test is saying that your daughter is not making normal amounts of any IGA antibodies.  She's not making normal amounts of antibodies against gliadin, not against bacteria, not against viruses.  She is deficient in total IGA, so the test for antigliadin antibodies is not valid.  The test was a failure.  The test only works if all different kinds of antibodies were being made.  Your daughter is not making all different kinds of antibodies, so the test results are moot.  Your daughter should have the DGP IgG and TTG IgG tests done.   The tests should be performed while she is still consuming gluten.  Stopping and restarting a gluten containing diet can make her more sick, just like you refuse to eat gluten for testing.  Call the doctor's office, request both the IGG tests. Request to be put on the cancellation list for an appointment sooner.  Ask for genetic testing.   Celiac disease is passed on from parents to children.  You and all seven children should be tested for genes for Celiac disease.  Your parents, your siblings and their children should be tested as well.  Eating gluten is not required for genetic testing because your genes don't change.  Genetic testing is not a diagnosis of Celiac disease.  Just having the genes means there is the potential of developing Celiac disease if the Celiac genes are activated.  Genetic testing helps us decide if the Celiac genes are activated when coupled with physical symptoms, antibody testing, and biopsy examination. It's frustrating when doctors get it wrong and we suffer for it.  Hang in there.  You're a good mom for pursuing this!

@hjayne19, So glad you found the information helpful.  I know how difficult my struggle with anxiety has been.  I've been finding things that helped me and sharing that with others makes my journey worthwhile. I like Life Extension Bioactive Complete B Complex.  It contains the easily activated forms of B vitamins needed by people with the MTHFR genetic variation often found with Celiac disease.   Avoid B Complex vitamins if they contain Thiamine Mononitrate if possible.  (Read the ingredients listing.)  Thiamine Mononitrate is the "shelf-stable" form of B 1 that the body can't utilize.  B vitamins breakdown when exposed to heat and light, and over time.  So "shelf-stable" forms won't breakdown sitting on a shelf in a bright store waiting to be bought.  (It's also very cheap.)  Thiamine Mononitrate is so shelf-stable that the body only absorbs about thirty percent of it, and less than that is utilized.  It takes thiamine already in the body to turn Thiamine Mononitrate into an active form.   I take MegaBenfotiamine by Life Extension.  Benfotiamine has been shown to promote intestinal healing, neuropathy, brain function, glycemic control, and athletic performance.   I take TTFD-B1 Max by Maxlife Naturals, Ecological Formulas Allthiamine (TTFD), or Thiamax by EO Nutrition.  Thiamine Tetrahydrofurfuryl Disulfide (TTFD for short) gets into the brain and makes a huge difference with the anxiety and getting the brain off the hamster wheel.  Especially when taken with Magnesium Threonate.   Any form of Thiamine needs Magnesium to make life sustaining enzymes and energy.  I like NeuroMag by Life Extension.  It contains Magnesium Threonate, a form of magnesium that easily crosses the blood brain barrier.  My brain felt like it gave a huge sigh of relief and relaxed when I started taking this and still makes a difference daily.   Other brands of supplements i like are Now Foods, Amazing Formulas, Doctor's Best, Nature's Way, Best Naturals, Thorne, EO Nutrition. Naturewise.  But I do read the ingredients labels all the time just to be sure they are gluten and dairy free. Glad to help with further questions.

Welcome to the celiac.com community @pothosqueen!   Can you be more specific about which IGA test was run that resulted in 114 score and said to be "normal" and could you please include the reference range for what would be normal? By the size of that number it looks like it may have been what we call "total IGA" but that test is not usually run without also running a TTG-IGA. Total IGA tests for IGA deficiency. If someone is IGA deficient, then the celiac-specific IGA tests like the TTG-IGA will be inaccurate. Was this the only IGA test that was run? To answer, your question, yes, a positive biopsy is normally definitive for celiac disease but there are some other medical conditions, some medications and even some food proteins in rare cases that can cause positive biopsies. But it is pretty unlikely that it is due to anything other than celiac disease.
