ok lister posted a really good q be, my question was to do with every time me and husband had sex i would get cronic thrush(candida), ive wonderd if that had anything to do with it as my husband is not gluten-free. if semen is gluten-free is it more to do with my own stomach bacteria, if its not then (oh god) would it have to be taken through the mouth or the other way, this is quite rude but a valid question, new to gluten-free diet but fnding the benefits greatly outweigh the negatives.

Have you had a yeast infection (which is candida) recently? You can pass the yeast infection on to your husband, and even if he doesn't have any symptoms, he can have a yeast infection also, and passes it back to you each time you have sex.

I'd talk to your gynocologist about it and see what they say. It probably needs medical attention. In the meantime, take probiotics or eat yogurt to repopulate good bacteria to fight off the yeast.

men can get yeast infections (just like women do) only they don't have the annoying symptoms, maybe you should have him go to the doctor and get checked out. I had a friend who had recurrent yeast infections and she kept going to the doctor it took 2 years for them to figure out her hubby had a chronic one and just kept sharing it with her. I had to go to the doctor with her and ask him if that could happen because she was to shy, then I had to talk to her hubby with her because she didn't want to make him feel bad.

I think he had to take anti fungal meds for a few weeks, but she says everything is fine now.

Taz, the problem may be quite simple. Vaginal yeast infections are commonly caused by exposure to moisture. So you might simply try to wash the area and then dry it thoroughly after sex. Also, try not to stay in a wet bathing suit very long after swimming. Try that and see if it helps. But first, treat yourself with the topical yeast infection medication and make sure you put some on your husband too. You could be healing and then your husband can re-infect you. Men commonly don't feel the symptoms we feel when they have a yeast infection. This all comes from my gynecologist, btw.

If it doesn't help, sex may not be the cause. I've seen lots of posts here where people have had problems with candida infections. Not sure if celiac is the cause, but there can also be other causes. Recurrent yeast infections (vaginal, etc.) can also be a sign of problems with the immune system, diabetes (from too much sugar in the urine), being overweight, using birth control pills, common during the follicular stage of a woman's cycle and the use of prednisone or antibiotics (just to name a few). There was a year where I had like 5 vaginal yeast infections, one after the other, and then the final one lasted about 3 months. I could not get rid of it with any topical medication. My gynecologist informed me that it could have something to do with the state of imy mmune system or diabetes. So scary as it was, I asked for a urine test to test for diabetes and an HIV test. Yikes! I didn't think I could have HIV, but I was scared - you never know. Well both the tests came back negative, but the yeast infections continued. Then he gave me this medication you take orally (just one pill). It's called Diflucan. Thankfully, I've never had another yeast infection and this was years ago.

Good luck!

Is the thrush located in your mouth or vagina? This small info can make quite a bit of difference in information.

I agree that it's a candida problem where you are probably both reinfecting each other. I would look into probiotics for both of you and see if it helps. If it doesn't, you will want to talk to your gyn about it.

I know I always ask this, but with good cause:

Are you sure that what you had was a yeast infection? Were samples taken and examined under a microscope and/or cultured in a lab? If not, it may have been something else that wasn't a yeast infection. Therer are some conditions that can cause symtpoms similar to yeast infections in some ways (primarily the burning/stinging sensation) that some people feel may be connected to celiac disease.

basically ive sufferd with thrush for 10 years about the same time my symptoms started of gluten-free, both me and hubby have had swabs after swabs he allays comes back negative but i am allways posotive, the doc allways treats him as well so i know its not just passing back n forth, ive had test after test, swabs blood urine even cameras pushed up god knows where, ive had eveything fron diflucan ( which doesnt work anymore on me) to peeseries to creams to 6 weeks of oral medication and it allways comes back, the last one lsasted 3 months and i could not get out of bed the soreness was so bad, my doc gace up n orderd gluten-free test which came back pos ive been gluten-free for 1 month and its gone, someone has said that my body was so confused at ighting itself that it couldnt heal itself, dont know but for the first time in 10 years ive been thrush free for a whole month and its great. the diet has worked for me, no amount of probiotics or cotton underwear or the thrush diet worked for me, im hopeing this will stick.

Feel so strange talking about this but, before bieng diagnosed with Celiac and going Gluten free I had a yeast infection about once a month. I was beginning to think there was something really wrong with me but after going gluten-free for the past 3 months i have not had anymore.

elonwy Enthusiast

I didn't even notice but you're right! I used to get them every 3 months or so, it was terrible, and since going gluten-free, I haven't even had one. What a nice side effect!

Your husband probably has candida and the 2 of you are passing it back and forth. It is more common that a man would have it without symptoms. You should both get treated at the same time. You can also use condoms to prevent infecting each other.

systemic candida should be explored too. Diflucan won't do anything for that. you have to do a complete candida cleanse and candida diet to get rid of it. No sugars to feed the candida... this wouldn't neccesarily show up on Dr.s swab tests. It's also intricately linked to Celiac. before I was dx'ed I had severe yeast infections and systemic candida... it took a while for it to clear after going gluten-free, and I had to do the candida cleanse, but eventually got rid of it and haven't had it since.

nini, it sounds like you and i have had exactly the same problem, i believe that being gluten-free has worked out my prob of thrush, i did the sugar detox diet, the thrush diet and even pushing fresh garlic up your bits ( natural remedie supposodly) to no avail but the gluten-free works, the thought of haveing the colonoscopy is ****!!!!! to say the least if i wanted something shoved up my bum for someones curiosity i would stay at home if you get my drift!!! . the prob is as well im lactose intolerant ( confirmed and shes happy with that one ) so she thinks my cronic thrush prob may be due to lactose what does everyone think?

I'm also yeast infection free after going gluten free. I used to have one almost all the time. Started when I was 11, before I even started my periods. there are 3 female in my exteded familyt that I think have celiac. All of them also have chronic yeast infections. Hadn't put it all together until reading this.

I don't see how cornstarch could alter the test results. Where did you read that?

For pain relief I take a combination of Thiamine (Benfotiamine), Pyridoxine B 6, and Cobalamine B12.  The combination of these three vitamins has analgesic effects.  I have back pain and this really works.  The B vitamins are water soluble and easily excreted.   Hope this helps!  Keep us posted on your results!

Welcome to the forum, @Xravith. I experienced similar symptoms before my diagnosis.  Mine were due to the loss of vitamins and minerals, essential nutrients we must get from our food.  With Celiac Disease, the intestinal lining, made up of thousands of villi, gets damaged and cannot absorb essential vitamins and minerals, especially the eight B vitamins.  The loss of Thiamine B 1 can cause muscle loss, inability to gain weight, edema (swelling), fatigue, migraines and palpitations.  Low thiamine can cause Gastrointestinal Beriberi with symptoms of nausea, abdominal pain and bloating.   Thiamine is only stored for a couple of weeks, so if you don't absorb enough from food daily, as the thiamine deficiency worsens physical symptoms gradually worsen.  If you're eating lots of carbs (like gluten containing foods usually do), you need more thiamine to process them (called high calorie malnutrition).  Thiamine works with all the other B vitamins, so if you're low in one, you're probably getting low in the others, too, and minerals like iron, magnesium, zinc, and calcium, as well as Vitamin D..  Talk to your doctor about checking for nutritional deficiencies.  Most doctors rarely recognize vitamin deficiency symptoms, especially in thiamine. Get a DNA test to see if you carry any Celiac genes.  If you do not have genetic markers for Celiac, it's probably IBS.  If you do have genetic markers for Celiac, it's probably Celiac.  I was misdiagnosed with IBS for years before my Celiac diagnosis.   Keep us posted on your progress. P. S. Deficiency in thiamine can cause false negatives on antibody tests, as can diabetes and anemia.

No she didn't because if I want to ask I have to pay 700$ for 1 hour appointment so I couldn't even ask. I read that fillers like cornstash can alter the result and tylenol contains it so that's why I tried to find someone who can answer.

Did the GI doc give you any rational for stopping the Tylenol during the gluten challenge? I have never heard of this before and I can't imagine a good reason for it. Ibuprofen, maybe, because it is an anti inflammatory but acetaminophen?  I don't see that it would have any impact on the test results to take Tylenol.
