Vincent, I forgot about Nashville being on Central Time. What hospital will Megan be in? Continuing to pray.

Wow! How did I miss all this happening???? Thanks for the link Vincent, so I can get caught up on what's going on......

Firstly, Vincent, what can I say? You are an amazing human being and I think this is a perfect example of how God uses us mere mortals as his guardian angels to help do His work. You truly are a guardian angel. He truly does work in mysterious ways.......

My thoughts will be with this beautiful child and will be praying REALLY, REALLY strong for her......

I also have tears in my eyes just reading through the thread and realizing once again how amazing the people here are and just how much you can be counted on when the chips are down and when someone needs friends to lean on.....

God bless you all........

Hugs.

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE!

This is form her site, her sister posted this...

TUESDAY, JULY 25, 2006 08:10 AM, CDT

Just heard from Tanya, they have just taken Megan back. They had given her some medicine to make her loopy, and she was. Tanya said that they would let them know something in 1 hour - 1.5 hours after they got the IV's in; at this point they would start the procedure. It should take around 5-6 hours. I will post every time I get an update.

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE!!!

Tanya just called and said that they made the incision about 10 minutes ago. It took them a while to get the IV's started because of veins. But they did say that she went to sleep very peacefully. They are going to give them updates in another 1-2 hours

UPDATE UPDATE UPADATE!!

TUESDAY, JULY 25, 2006 11:34 AM, CDT

Just got another call from Tanya. She said she talked to one of the nurses. The nurse said that everything was going just wonderful right now. It was one of the smoothest surgeries that they had seen. They planned on taking their time so it would be another 3-4 hours before they were done.

WOOHOO!!!!!

MEGAN UPDATE !!

TUESDAY, JULY 25, 2006 12:30 PM, CDT

Tanya called with another update: Everything is still going really they are in the process of repairing the VSD (which is the hole in the heart). They have her on the by pass machine. They still have to replace the shunt and enlarge the pulmonary arteries (not sure if this is 1 or more than 1, sorry, I just don't have any medical sense). She still has a long way to go, but thankfully, she is doing so well.

WOW!!!

TUESDAY, JULY 25, 2006 02:05 PM, CDT

Just got word from Nashville, the surgery is over and Megan is doing really well. The cardiologist had came out and talked to Jarod and Tanya. He told them that the surgery went really well. The surgeon had just came out and said that they were able to do everything that they had wanted to do and that he was very pleased. Her oxygen saturation level was 100% (which is what normal is). Now is the wait and see process. They will have to let her body heal and get regualted. Prayers have definitely been the power source today.

They would transfer Megan up to PICU. After she got settled there, Jarod and Tanya could see her. Tanya anticipated that this should take about an hour or so.

Thanks so much to everyone for all of their prayers. I know I appreciate them for my beautiful little neice, and her parents even more so than me.

Cristiana, that sounds like a great approach and I will be looking forward to the results. I am in the same boat as you. I don't experience overt symptoms with minor, cross contamination level exposures so I sometimes will indulge in those "processed on equipment that also processes wheat . . ." or items that don't specifically claim to be gluten free but do not list gluten containing grains in their ingredient list. But I always wonder if I am still experiencing sub acute inflammatory reactions. I haven't had any celiac antibody blood work done since my diagnosis almost 25 years ago so I don't really have any data to go by.

I've been reflecting on this further. The lowest TTG I've ever managed was 4.5 (normal lab reading under 10).  Since then it has gone up to 10.   I am not happy with that.  I can only explain this by the fact that I am eating out more these days and that's where I'm being 'glutened', but such small amounts that I only occasionally react. I know some of it is also to do with eating products labelled 'may contain gluten' by mistake - which in the UK means it probably does! It stands to reason that as I am a coeliac any trace of gluten will cause a response in the gut.  My villi are healed and look healthy, but those lymphocytes are present because of the occasional trace amounts of gluten sneaking into my diet.   I am going to try not to eat out now until my next blood test in the autumn and read labels properly to avoid the may contain gluten products, and will then report back to see if it has helped!

Hi, I posted before about my son's legs shaking after gluten. I did end up starting him on vit b and happily he actually started sleeping better and longer.  Back to my 4 year old. She had gone back to meltdowns, early wakes, and exhaustion. We tested everything again and her ferritin was lowish again (16) and vit d was low. After a couple weeks on supplements she is cheerful, sleeping better and looks better. The red rimmed eyes and dark circles are much better.   AND her Ttg was a 3!!!!!! So, we are crushing the gluten-free diet which is great. But WHY are her iron and vit d low if she's not getting any gluten????  She's on 30mg of iron per day and also a multivitamin and vit d supplement (per her dr). That helped her feel better quickly. But will she need supplements her whole life?? Or is there some other reason she's not absorbing iron? We eat very healthy with minimal processed food. Beef maybe 1x per week but plenty of other protein including eggs daily.  She also says her tummy hurts every single morning. That was before the iron (do not likely a side effect). Is that common with celiac?

Celiac disease is the most likely cause, but here are articles about the other possible causes:
