Just heard from Vandy about an hour ago. Surgery is a go for 7/25. I was relieved to hear this, but I think I'm going to throw up at the same time. This isn't an easy thing for any child to have to go through, especially your own. Please pray for this to go as perfectly as it can. Thanks for all the support. I think I'm just overwhelmed right now.

Okay Tanya, thanks for the update, and rember keep our #'s handy, we are here for you!

Tanya--You and little Meg are on my mind so much. Gosh, I do know that relieved but going to throw up feeling. Many years ago, Matt had to have surgery when he was 18 months old. Nothing terribly serious, but he had to have general anesthesia. He did fine--I was a mess! You have a strong, brave little girl there with a lot of folks pulling for her :)

Hi, Tanya,

Just wanted to say goodnight, and I hope everybody (including the pooch) sleeps well! That's one remarkable dog you've got. I bet if you take her to the surgery, she'll make sure nobody makes any mistakes!

Hi, Tanya,

Just got online & your message, Tanya came up about sure date for surgery on 7/25, know what you are going thru, sort of. One of our girls had a rough few years @ first but she seems to be the healthiest now!!

Count on prayers from here too. Hope all of you at your house have a "good" night. :) evie

Thanks everybody. Shar Pei is doing well. Megan is getting another molar in, so she's not so happy, but she didn't sleep quite as much today. We've been working towards surgery for so long now, I feel almost lost now that it's about here. I guess that sounds crazy. Part of me just wants to run away with her so they can't put her through that pain again. I know I can't, but part of me really wants to. Watching your child suffer is enough to drive you mad. Most of you know exactly what I'm talking about. I just hope it's easier this time. I pray to God constantly that it is.

Ugh, Tim is getting his last few molars now, thats enough trouble by itself, never mind with all Megan has on top of it!

((Tanya)) ~ hoping that last night was better for your family. You and Meg are going to have such a strong testimony and will hopefully be able to use all this knowledge and experience to help someone else along the way. I'm covering you in prayer today!

Thank you for the updated posting on the surgery date. I can understand that you are relieved that you now have a firm date, but want to throw up at the same time. I cannot compare to what you are going through, but there have been times in my life that I have felt the same way - relief and also frightened of what is ahead. Many prayers and certainly lots of hugs. Hope you got some much needed sleep last night.

Thanks for the prayers and hugs! I'm feeling better today, just busy trying to get everything in order. I spent most of the day trying to get family lined up to give blood for her.

Meg's still fussy with teething today. I think that's it, but it's always hard to tell. She seems to be doing about the same, though.

Cheri, I pray the same thing all the time. I know God will use all of this to help some other people. He already had done that in helping some people we know get diagnosed with celiac disease. It's amazing how it all works together.

I also wanted to let all of you know that I've started a website for her on caringbridge.org. Click on the visit selection and type meganandrews to get to her site. I'm going to be posting how she's doing after surgery there. That way everyone who is following her can find info at one place. There are also some pics of her.

Hugs,

Tanya

Tanya,

I'll be saying lots of prayers for Megan. I think about her upcoming surgery everyday and I know she'll have many many people praying for her on that day. Thanks for posting the info. for Megan's website.

Thank you for the update, Tanya and the information on her website. Praying hard for "our little Megan" :) I don't remember, maybe you said, but I hope the Ronald McD House is available to you. A friend of mine stayed at one in Cincinnati when her daughter had a liver transplant and it was so wonderful. I hope you and Megan can get restful sleep tonight. :)

Vincent, that is so cool that you donate. Your blood type is the most desired, I believe it is the universal donor, am I right? I was told not to donate blood because of liver enzyme problems, or I would fly down and give her any of mine she needed. Thank God for people who can and do donate. It is a precious gift. btw-little Timothy looks like a beautiful cherub in that pic--even looks like a halo with the light on his curls!!

I can donate to MOST ppl, but O- is the true universal that can donate to anyone. My blood type is highly desired by the RedCross though since most ppl can take it.

thanks so much everyone. I replied to your PM Vincent, Thanks again! I think we've got it covered, but may call you tomorrow if things fall through!

Tony's Mom, I saw recently where your little one was just diagnosed with diabetes. I've been meaning to PM you, but haven't made time - sorry! I hope everything's going well. My husband is type 1, but ws 20 when it developed. I'll keep you in my prayers. Thanks for thinking of me during your difficult time!

Rachel, Robin, and Andrea, and everyone else - Thanks so much for all the support you show ALL the time. this board is so blessed to have caring people like all of you.

this afternoon Meg seems to feel some better - thankfully. Last night was ROUGH, so no one slept much around here.

I'm trying to get us packed and stressing! The gluten-free thing is not going to be easy, especially for our son. I'm praying that we get into Ronald McDonald house. I bought a new toaster and I've been gathering stuff to take for him, but if we don't get in on Monday, then we'l lhave to find a hotel that we can set up camp in, then move. I really need to be able to get him set up for the grandparents to help rather than depending on them to do it. They're all well intentioned, but clueless. Getting in is a minor thing in the big scheme of things, but it would definately reduce the stress level!!!

Our dog is doing great, BTW.

Thanks Vincent for waiting. We just may have to call on you!!!

Tanya, if there are other things that need to be bought, let us know, and we can purchase them from wherever we are and overnight them to you at home or to Vincent near Vandy.

I'm so glad the dog is better--wish she could come with you to Vandy!

Hang in there--you're on the home stretch.

Love, prayers, and star wishes,

Alison

Tanya--This goes for me, too. Anything I can do--really. :)

Hi everyone. Back in 2022 I had blood work drawn for iga ext gliadin. Since then I’ve developed worse stomach issues and all other health issues. My doctor just said cut out gluten. He did no further testing. Please see my test results attached. I just need some direction cause I feel so ill and the stomach pain is becoming worse. Can this test show indications for other gastrointestinal diseases?
    • Fayeb23
Thank you. These were the results TTG ABS NUMERICAL: > 250.0 U/mL [< 14.99]  Really don’t understand the results!

Clearly from what you've said the info on Dailymed is much more up to date than the other site, which hasn't been updated since 2017. The fact that some companies might be repackaging drugs does not mean the info on the ingredients is not correct.
    • RMJ
To evaluate the TTG antibody result we’d need to know the normal range for that lab.  Labs don’t all use the same units.  However, based on any normal ranges that I’ve seen and the listed result being greater than a number rather than a specific number, I’d say yes, that is high! Higher than the range where the test can give a quantitative result. You got good advice not to change your diet yet.  If you went gluten free your intestines would start to heal, confusing any further testing,
    • Bev in Milw
Scott is correct….Thank you for catching that!      Direct link for info  of fillers.    http://www.glutenfreedrugs.com/Excipients.htm Link is on 2nd page  of www.glutenfreedrugs.com   Site was started by a pharmacist (or 2) maybe 15-20 yrs ago with LAST updated in  2017.  This makes it’s Drug List so old that it’s no longer relevant. Companies & contacts, along with suppliers &  sources would need to be referenced, same amount effort  as starting with current data on DailyMed      That being said, Excipient List is still be relevant since major changes to product labeling occurred prior ’17.           List is the dictionary that sources the ‘foreign-to-us’ terms used on pharmaceutical labels, terms we need to rule out gluten.    Note on DailyMed INFO— When you look for a specific drug on DailyMed, notice that nearly all of companies (brands/labels) are flagged as a ‘Repackager’… This would seem to suggest the actual ‘pills’ are being mass produced by a limited number of wholesaler suppliers (esp for older meds out of  patent protection.).      If so, multiple repackager-get  bulk shipments  from same supplier will all  be selling identical meds —same formula/fillers. Others repackager-could be switching suppliers  frequently based on cost, or runs both gluten-free & non- items on same lines.  No way to know  without contacting company.     While some I know have  searched pharmacies chasing a specific brand, long-term  solution is to find (or teach) pharmacy staff who’s willing help.    When I got 1st Rx ~8 years ago, I went to Walgreens & said I needed gluten-free.  Walked  out when pharmacist said  ‘How am I supposed  to know…’  (ar least he as honest… ). Walmart pharmacists down the block were ‘No problem!’—Once, they wouldn’t release my Rx, still waiting on gluten-free status from a new supplier. Re: Timeliness of DailyMed info?   A serendipitous conversation with cousin in Mi was unexpectedly reassuring.  She works in office of Perrigo, major products of OTC meds (was 1st to add gluten-free labels).  I TOTALLY lucked out when I asked about her job: “TODAY I trained a new full-time employee to make entries to Daily Med.’  Task had grown to hours a day, time she needed for tasks that couldn’t be delegated….We can only hope majorities of companies are as  conscientious!   For the Newbies…. SOLE  purpose of  fillers (possible gluten) in meds is to  hold the active ingredients together in a doseable form.  Drugs  given by injection or as IV are always gluten-free!  (Sometimes drs can do antibiotics w/ one-time injection rather than 7-10 days of  pills .) Liquid meds (typically for kids)—still read labels, but  could be an a simpler option for some products…
