Oh Taz- I'm so sorry. When I did my gluten challenge, I only lasted ten out of the 14 days I was supposed to do it (which wouldn't have done a thing anyway). After the endo, I was so bound up between the gluten and the anesthesia which I think slowed down the time it took me to get over it.

Hang in there.... you WILL get better! Hugs, B

You've done a gluten challenge, and now you know for sure. Stop the gluten, and you'll get better. Your kids will survive a day or two of chocolate bars for breakfast!

Tracey, I am sorry you feel so bad. But let's try to look on the bright side: Now you have no more doubts and know you are obviously severely gluten intolerant. That's a good thing. You won't ever be tempted to try gluten again.

Your kids will survive, eating chocolate for breakfast won't kill them. They probably thought it was cool. You're not a bad mom, just sick. They're not going to suffer from malnutrition from you not feeding them right for a few days.

Try to find somebody who can help you with the kids until you come out of the brainfog and feeling ill. Don't be too hard on yourself, just get back on track with the gluten-free diet. I imagine that within a week you'll be fine. One day of gluten won't have caused too much damage.

Hope you feel better soon!

I agree- I loved it when my mom let me eat chocolate cake for breakfast!!!!!!!!!!!! You are NOT a bad mom, you just aren't feeling well. The one thing i always remind myself (could use this reminder right now....this too shall pass. Until it does, let them eat chocolate! Big Hug, B

Oh, gosh, if being so sick you can't take care of your kids is a bad mom, then I'm the worst!!! No, seriously, kids understand. It's good for them to know that you feel good and bad just the same as they do. It's also good for them to see that no one can do it all and no one has to. You're teaching them to do what they can do to get healthy. There are some good lessons in this for them!

I hope you feel better soon. Your mini-challenge sure gave you your answer.

I am so sorry you are not feeling well. I think that you are being a little hard on yourself (I can judge, I do this all the time). You are not a bad mum. You are human and going through a rough spot. You will get better!

I am so sorry that you feel so bad. I often wondered the same about my doctor when they said for me to go off gluten for a challenge. I refused to do it. I knew how sick I was before and I cant be like that again. After what you are going through, it scares me even more to eat gluten.

I hope that you feel better soon!

So sorry to hear about your suffering, it sounds excrutiating! In time you will look back and it will just be another memory added to the "saga of glutendom". At least now you have clear understanding of your gluten intolerance.

Meanwhile I'll say a prayer for you. Good luck, this too shall pass!

TOo funny! I just got a mental pic of "Bill Cosby - Himself" where he's got the microphone in his hand and he's singing, "Dad is great........ he gives us the chocolate cake........."

Yea, giving your kids chocolate for breakfast doesn't come close to qualifying you for a bad mum award.

I'm sorry you are feeling so miserable. And, I think you have all the proof you need. :(

so sorry you are feeling bad. this too shall pass. the kids will be ok just take care of yourself and get better. drink enough water to help your system flush and also some good gluten-free digestive enzymes might help you as well.

Gotta say I agree..... its sounds pretty conclusive to me.

Well, that sounds like pretty conclusive results to me.......

In regards to your children, don't sweat it. You certainly aren't SuperWoman and all moms are allowed to have "we're down for the count" days........ Heck, there were some days when I was up most of the night in MAJOR pain, finally fell asleep just as the kids were waking up, and when I finally got downstairs, they had eaten just about every Fruit Roll-up, Fruit Gushers, chocolate brownie, rice krispie square, etc. etc. that they could get their hands on (well, except Daniel, who is a fruit freak, he goes in the fridge and gets out all the containers that have the cut-up watermelon, cut-up honeydew melon, washed grapes, etc. and he has a Fruit-A-Thon!!!! Gotta luv a kid who loves fruit enough to choose it over junk!!!!

Anyway, I am glad you finally have your answer and you now have the knowledge and power to take it from here.....

Hugs.

Karen

Hi @JulieRe.  I just found your post.  It seems that I am also experiencing thrush, and my doctor believes that I have fungal overgrowth in my gut, which is most likely candida.  I'm seeing my GI doctor next week, so I'm hoping she can diagnose and confirm this and then give me an antifungal treatment.  In the meantime, I have been working with a functional medicine doctor, doing a candida cleanse and taking vitamins. It's already helping to make me feel better (with some ups and downs, of course), so I do think the yeast is definitely a problem for me on top of my celiac disease and I'm hoping my GI doctor can look into this a bit further.  So, how about you?  Did the candida come back, or is it still gone following your fluconazole treatment?  Also, was it awful to take fluconazole?  I understand that taking an antifungal can cause a reaction that sometimes makes people feel sick while they're taking it.  I hope you're doing better still !

I'm so sorry you're going through this—the "gluten challenge" is notoriously brutal, and it's awful to deliberately make yourself sick when you've already found the answer. For the joint pain, many people find that over-the-counter anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen can help take the edge off, and using heating pads or warm baths can provide some direct relief for the aches. For the digestive misery, stick to simple, easy-to-digest foods (like plain rice, bananas, and bone broth) and drink plenty of water and electrolytes to stay hydrated. It feels like the longest month ever, but you are doing the right thing to get a clear diagnosis, which can be crucial for your long-term health and getting the proper care. Hang in there; you can get through this! This article, and the comments below it, may be helpful:

Daura Damm (a sponsor here) uses AN-PEP enzymes and filtering in their brewing process to reduce/remove gluten, and it actually tests below 10ppm (I've see a document where they claim 5ppm).

This topic has come up before on this forum and has been researched. No GMO wheat, barley and rye are commercially available in the USA. Any modifications are from hybridization, not laboratory genetic modification. Better toleration of wheat, barley and rye products in other countries is thought to be due to use of heirloom varieties of these cereal grains as opposed to the hybrids used in the USA which contain much larger amounts of gluten.
    • Scott Adams
Welcome to the forum @Ceekay! If you have celiac disease then you can't eat wheat in other countries because it would still contain gliadin, the harmful part of the grain. Have you been diagnosed with celiac disease?
