Nope dark brown. I have a head piece over my head that trails down my back. Those costumes are fun. It was my 4h leaders and didn't match my horse very well but I just wanted to go in the class.

Hi Julie and Rachel and Andrea and everyone else! I love popping in a saying hi!!!!!!

Try to limit your milkshake consumption to one gallon today Rachel ...and did I read something about two packages of corn tortillas?:lol:

I pulled a Rachel the other day when I found these organic gluten-free, sf, cf muffins. They're made out of almond meal. I seriously need to find out how they make them. I ate one...then I ate another one...then a little later I ate another one....(they're really big too!)

Okay I must be off (must go buy more muffins). Bye for now!

extremely premature post....I am pages behind......don't even know what is going on with you guys! I have poked my head in a bit, but am by no means caught up.....Andrea sent me a sweet pm (hi Andrea!) and said I should make a stop here n R2 - - - -

I do have a matter of scientificness that I need addressed - a bizarre and worsening rash/blister thing my niece has going on for months- - - 'spose I need to take my questions to the main part of town and the resident scientists - I have learned so much here, I truly did read every word of your science posts (Rachel doesn't believe me B) ) and so, as she describes her symptoms and I have viewed the welts/ blisters, and her breathing becomes labored at night(according to her boyfriend)....I just know this is some sort of histamine reaction or food intolerance - - of coures the Dr. doesn't KNOW what it is....that's right.....so I"ll take my query to OMG.....

Love you guys - - - see you soon!

Susan,

Just reading about all that work makes me tired.

Just said goodbye to hubby and baby is finally asleep. Little girl is still awake wanting to know if I will be up until she goes to sleep. :o It's 1 1/2 past her bedtime. We let the kids stay up til 9 since they won't see daddy until Thursday.

I've asked Celia to come over here before. She's attached to the other thread. But if everyone asks her maybe she'll take notice.

Glad to have you back Susan.....I have missed your posts. Always enjoy reading, and most of the times getting dizzy and tired because of all your housework. Remember, I'm not artistic so that's dizzying to me to begin with. :P

Carla,

The new picture craze hit you too huh? Great pic....nice to see the others.

Molly,

That's a good one too. Interesting effects.

We do have one rebel in our town (dont all towns?)....he's not gluten free but we dont follow in his footsteps. ;)

He has to be de-glutenized before he comes into Rachelville and I believe he eats paper products while he's here.:rolleyes:

B) paper products = cardboard :D

Is The Dave going to come back now that we can gab?

Tell him that gluten free foods are much better than paper products and in all likelihood more nutritious.

:D I'm baaaack....

Yes, will The Dave be joining us in the "ville" sans science??

Wouldn't miss it...better late than never!

Ummm...I think The Dave is still wandering around the OMG thread. He is lost...

No doubt he is finding more things to torment me about.....still havent heard the end of the alien baby business.

Now I will be hearing about orange pee jugs and how its not cool to store them in the yogurt cooler at work.

:lol::lol:

Where there was a lot to get lost about..... and yes...I did find some good material to torment you about :D

ha ha ha poor Dave - - he must be so confused....

Hmm...usually not ;)

If you were really pulling a Rachel...you'd have like 8 of those big mugs....there is no such thing as 1 mug, 1 bowl, 1 slice, 1 piece etc.....Rachel doesnt know when to stop.

Help....I am now on my second loaf of Ener-G cardboard bread. Its only been 2 days since I've started eating it....

Glad to see I'm not the only one eating cardboard!

I grew up in Centerville ... lived there from 1963-1981!!

Where do you live now where there are no natural weather threats??? I prefer the threat of a tornado than an earthquake! I lived several years in CA, Morgan was born there, and the earthquakes freaked me out ... when the ground moves, your whole frame of reference is gone!! Our house is 90 years old ... I figure if it's still here after all these years, I'm pretty safe. It's not exacly like being in Kansas ... with the hills, tornados generally just do a little roof damage ... We live between Cincy and Dayton ... somewhat near King's Island (don't want to get too specific for the world to view, but if you're ever in the area, you can PM me and I can tell you where good gluten-free restaurants are ... like Skyline Chili!!!).

I got all confused when I was reading about Mom's new picture....her picture wasn't changed and I tried to change mine but it didn't work....or so I thought. I was getting frusterated so I went to bed. Well I cleaned my computer out and now I see everyone's new pictures. Nice pics everyone :D Now I just need to figure out how to put a desription underneath...after I expeiment with a few more pictures :P

Dave, nice to see that you're not a complete town idiot.....you're still smart enough to find the town ;)B)

Here is the application for a job in R-ville.

Are you gluten free? Yes, and proud of it!!

Do you promise to never infiltrate Rachelville with gluteney foods? Yes, of coarse!!

Do you promise to never bring gigantic Auxigro ridden produce into R-Ville? I do. (Raise right hand.)

Can I have a job now? :P

No coincidence. Recent revisions to gluten challenge guidelines call for the daily consumption of at least 10g of gluten (about the amount in 4-6 slices of wheat bread) for a minimum of 3 weeks. If possible, I would extend that two weeks to ensure valid testing.
    • SilkieFairy
Thank you both for the replies. I decided to bring back gluten so I can do the blood test. Today is Day #2 of the Challenge. Yesterday I had about 3 slices of whole wheat bread and I woke up with urgent diarrhea this morning. It was orange, sandy and had the distinctive smell that I did not have when I was briefly gluten free. I don't know if it's a coincidence, but the brain fog is back and I feel very tired.

@Jane02, I hear you about the kale and collard greens.  I don't do dairy and must eat green leafies, too, to get sufficient calcium.  I must be very careful because some calcium supplements are made from ground up crustacean shells.  When I was deficient in Vitamin D, I took high doses of Vitamin D to correct the deficiency quickly.  This is safe and nontoxic.  Vitamin D level should be above 70 nmol/L.  Lifeguards and indigenous Pacific Islanders typically have levels between 80-100 nmol/L.   Levels lower than this are based on amount needed to prevent disease like rickets and osteomalacia. We need more thiamine when we're physically ill, emotionally and mentally stressed, and if we exercise like an athlete or laborer.  We need more thiamine if we eat a diet high in simple carbohydrates.  For every 500 kcal of carbohydrates, we need 500-1000 mg more of thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  If there's insufficient thiamine the carbs get stored as fat.  Again, recommended levels set for thiamine are based on minimum amounts needed to prevent disease.  This is often not adequate for optimum health, nor sufficient for people with absorption problems such as Celiac disease.  Gluten free processed foods are not enriched with vitamins like their gluten containing counterparts.  Adding a B Complex and additional thiamine improves health for Celiacs.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Thiamine helps the mitochondria in cells to function.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins.  They are all water soluble and easily excreted if not needed. Interesting Reading: Clinical trial: B vitamins improve health in patients with coeliac disease living on a gluten-free diet https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19154566/ Safety and effectiveness of vitamin D mega-dose: A systematic review https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34857184/ High dose dietary vitamin D allocates surplus calories to muscle and growth instead of fat via modulation of myostatin and leptin signaling https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38766160/ Safety of High-Dose Vitamin D Supplementation: Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Controlled Trial https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31746327/ Vitamins and Celiac Disease: Beyond Vitamin D https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11857425/ Investigating the therapeutic potential of tryptophan and vitamin A in modulating immune responses in celiac disease: an experimental study https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40178602/ Investigating the Impact of Vitamin A and Amino Acids on Immune Responses in Celiac Disease Patients https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10814138/

Thank you so much @knitty kitty for this insightful information! I would have never considered fractionated coconut oil to be a potential source of GI upset. I will consider all the info you shared. Very interesting about the Thiamine deficiency.  I've tracked daily averages of my intake in a nutrition software. The only nutrient I can't consistently meet from my diet is vitamin D. Calcium is a hit and miss as I rely on vegetables, dark leafy greens as a major source, for my calcium intake. I'm able to meet it when I either eat or juice a bundle of kale or collard greens daily haha. My thiamine intake is roughly 120% of my needs, although I do recognize that I may not be absorbing all of these nutrients consistently with intermittent unintentional exposures to gluten.  My vitamin A intake is roughly 900% (~6400 mcg/d) of my needs as I eat a lot of sweet potato, although since it's plant-derived vitamin A (beta-carotene) apparently it's not likely to cause toxicity.  Thanks again!
    • knitty kitty
Hello, @Jane02,  I take Naturewise D 3.  It contains olive oil.   Some Vitamin D supplements, like D Drops, are made with fractionated coconut oil which can cause digestive upsets.  Fractionated coconut oil is not the same as coconut oil used for cooking.  Fractionated coconut oil has been treated for longer shelf life, so it won't go bad in the jar, and thus may be irritating to the digestive system. I avoid supplements made with soy because many people with Celiac Disease also react to soy.  Mixed tocopherols, an ingredient in Thornes Vitamin D, may be sourced from soy oil.  Kirkland's has soy on its ingredient list. I avoid things that might contain or be exposed to crustaceans, like Metagenics says on its label.  I have a crustacean/shellfish/fish allergy.  I like Life Extension Bioactive Complete B Complex.  I take additional Thiamine B 1 in the form Benfotiamine which helps the intestines heal, Life Extension MegaBenfotiamine. Thiamine is needed to activate Vitamin D.   Low thiamine can make one feel like they are getting glutened after a meal containing lots of simple carbohydrates like white rice, or processed gluten free foods like cookies and pasta.   It's rare to have a single vitamin deficiency.  The water soluble B Complex vitamins should be supplemented together with additional Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine and Thiamine TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) to correct subclinical deficiencies that don't show up on blood tests.  These are subclinical deficiencies within organs and tissues.  Blood is a transportation system.  The body will deplete tissues and organs in order to keep a supply of thiamine in the bloodstream going to the brain and heart.   If you're low in Vitamin D, you may well be low in other fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin A and Vitamin K. Have you seen a dietician?
