Drive by post for me this evening guys, had a busy day and am tired. I will try to read up and post more tomorrow.

Just wanted to say Stephanie I am so glad to hear you had such a positive appt. and good feedback on your sons health, that is great news :)

You know what else I miss....ICE CREAM!!

I'm in mourning right now but I think you will be proud of me Andrea....I wont be Racheling everything in sight cuz I'm sticking to the sulfite thing for awhile...I've talked myself into it. B)

Ryan, some great advice and I am seriously impressed that you would ask for it. :) My sweetie and I spent the better part of five years apart and it was difficult but we had been together for 15 years and that made it easier. We made a regular talking date every five days to catch up and saw eachother when we could, it can be done and our marriage is stronger now for knowing that we can survive separation.

Nice to see this Rachelville sub-division flourishing. I've had more energy lately which means I am doing more projects and I should return to them now. Have a great day. :)

I'm also glad that The Dave has started to notice the correlation between Racheling the sickness. Hopefully he'll be successful in keeping an eye on you since I can't. :P Seriously though, it's nice that he can be there to help and no one can force you to not Rachel, just highly hint and nag about it. Howdy ho everyone!

Just posted about my trip here Open Original Shared Link

It was fantastic to be able to relax about Terry eating.

We all had a great time,basically being really lazy,sitting round the pool,even participating in the odd sangria (spanish drink) hic! :blink:

I hope everyone is well.

*sigh*,My son had a paediatrician's appointment today,to discuss his results of his recent blood screen for coeliac (last year he had a borderline result on his tTg)

Although no real suprise to us the doc told us he now has had a high positive on his tTG :(

We've noticed that he's been alot more tired than before and complains his tummy and bones hurt-especially in his hip.

Although we have an appt to see a G.I specialist in November the paediatrician didn't think it would be fair to make him wait that long for a biopsy (we feel we need to get him a formal dx as you need this to get follow up care and free prescription foods in UK)

So the paediatrician is going to ring round some collegues to try and get him biopsied a.s.a.p.

(dare I say it,I think his paed is one of the good guys :rolleyes: )

So we just have to wait for him to ring (sooner rather than later I hope) :unsure:

Although taking on another G.F diet in the house would not be difficult as hubby and me are already G.F,I am worried about what will happen at school,clubs,and respite care he goes to.

As my son (who's 13yrs old) has Downs Syndrome-he's never going to understand why he has to be G.F,or how important it is not to accept offers of food/sweets off of other people <_<

Well,I suppose we will cross that bridge when it comes to it.

Sorry for the rant!! (feeling a bit sorry for myself!)I've rambled on....

Edit:On a lighter note my friend has bought me back these weird smelly shoes from her holiday in the states and wondered if anyof you were familiar with them?

They are called 'Gatorz' ,are like plastic clogs with holes in smell sweet.,and are a very bright colour!

My friend assures me that these shoes are all the rage, mmm I'm not sure.

When my hubby saw them he said 'you're not wearing them outside the house are you?' LOL!!

As you said it's no surprise about the results. Should be a half sigh of relief. The other half with trying to get him to understand not to take food from others will be challenging. Is there a way to teach him that those foods make his tummy hurt? If he's been complaining about aches and pains that may be a way to tackle it.

Hope school is going well and you are having fun......but not too much fun. :P

There are different brands, but "the" brand is Crocs, so most people around here call them Crocs. Yes they are very popular this summer. Most people wear them around with shorts and t-shirts and to the pool. My kids have them (a knock-off), but I don't ... too strange. But they are all the rage. All I can say is they must have had GREAT marketing!!! :lol:

Carla is right, the original are called Crocs, and they are EVERYWHERE. Very ugly, but everyone swears they are so comfortable.

About your son, can you work with the school, the clubs, the care takers, everyone that has access to him, and educate them about a gluten-free diet and how important it is for his health??

When we went to CA for a visit I bought a pair..ugly...sure they are...but they are the MOST COMFORTABLE pair of shoes i ever had. I have really bad feet and wore orthotics and spent $130.00 - $200 for pairs of shoes that were uglier than the crops...but ...not as comfortable...I love mine.

They are a ugly purple...uck but comfortable...when you come in from the garden you just wash them off :lol:

i liek uggs, hate the trend but they are really fuzzy and soft!

and yes i think crocs are ugly-ugly-ugly and i will never buy a pair no matter how comfortable theyare. ;)

I LOVE my Uggs...in fact I'm wearing them with my sweats right this very second. :P

They are so comfy...my favorite shoes. :)

I would never refer to your "Mother Henlyness" as nagging. Never ever. ;)

Even if you tell me the same thing over and over....I see it as good advice coming from a caring friend.

Of course....I may not always listen...and I may just Rachel food again sometime down the road but for now...I'm really trying. :D

Crocs are AWESOME!

They are anit-bacterial, so if you have sweaty feet, they don't stink. Plus, you can just wash them off in the sink when they get dirty, because they are anti slip.

Everyone in our while house has a pair.

My mom just got a pair of the Crocs from my dad. He bought them b/c they are all the rage. They are ugly as sin! I did, however, try hers on and wow, are they comfortable! I might get a pair for Disney in a few weeks.. so I dont have to wear sneakers the whole time

I know people swear by them, which is something I don't understand :blink: how are these plastic things so comfortable??? Please explain. Is it special plastic??

I can't help but think of another plastic shoe fad, jellies :lol: Those had to be the worst!

Andrea and Julie,-thanks for your kind words about my son-and as soon as he's had his biopsy I will be speaking to the relevant school staff etc about his food.

It's something else to worry about!(we Mums just can't stop worrying about our kids!)

Hey,I'm glad you knew what I'm talking about with the crocs!

They are ugly-but so comfortable :blink:

Mine are bright yellow.

I thought thet'd make my feet sweat as they are plastic,but curiously they don't :blink:

They remind me of hospital theatre shoes (that surgeons wear).

I still haven't had the guts to wear them outside the house yet though-(just in case people point and say 'what is she wearing on her feet'!!)

Maybe you could get a T-shirt that says "My shoes are an American fad" otherwise you very well might look strange! :lol:

I have Ugg slippers and love them!! My boots are, oh, I can't think of the brand, it's a German shoe company, I wear them in the winter. Rachel, Uggs in August? Must be cooler there because around here you don't see sweats in August either!

      Not necessarily. The "Gluten Free" label means not more than 20ppm of gluten in the product which is often not enough for super sensitive celiacs. You would need to be looking for "Certified Gluten Free" (GFCO endorsed) which means no more than 10ppm of gluten. Having said that, "Gluten Free" doesn't mean that there will necessarily be more gluten than "Certified...

      I think it is wise to seek a second opinion from a GI doc and to go on a gluten free diet in the meantime. The GI doc may look at all the evidence, including the biopsy report, and conclude you don't need anything else to reach a dx of celiac disease and so, there would be no need for a gluten challenge. I wish I had known of this at the time of her diagnosis, life would have been much easier.  I hope you are able to figure out.

Mainly he kept saying his legs were shaking. Is this a gluten exposure symptom that anyone else gets? Also the bad behavior?

But if the GI doc does want to do more testing, you can worry about the gluten challenge at that time. But between now and the time of the appointment, if your symptoms improve on a gluten free diet, that is more evidence. Just keep in mind that if a gluten challenge is called for, the bare minimum challenge length is two weeks of the daily consumption of at least 10g of gluten, which is about the amount found in 4-6 slices of wheat bread. But, I would count on giving it four weeks to be sure.
