Well, just to remind everyone: Sept. 14th at 4:40 pm is when I get my colonoscopy/barium xrays results!!! I was ok with it before and calm, but as Thursday approaches closer and closer.....I'm really kinda starting to freak out now. I know I shouldnt, but I'm so scared that its going to show nothing, and I'm trying to think of what I'll ask to have done if they tests show nothing (like ask to be referred out of province, etc).....

And it dont help that I dont really have anyone to talk....my closest guy friend cant talk during the day because he starts work usually by 7 am, and we cant talk at night because when you take in the 1 hr time difference, and by the time I come home from school, hes already sleeping!! And hes the one who ALWAYS makes me strong....

I thought I could turn to another one of my guy friends, but it sure doesnt seem that way, hes been a bit odd lately-including the fact that when he lived in another province he gave me his phone # without me even asking for it, but last night when I asked for his # here in SK he refused to give me it

So I dont know ... HELP :P

Hi Lisa,

I am a very new member, so just wondering a bit more about your history?? Why did they do a Colonoscopy ?? Is your Doctor looking for something in particular??

The reason I ask, is that I just had one done, last Wedneday, and when I woke up from the surgery (had to be put to sleep, i was too uncomfortable to be awake) but the nurse told me that it was most likely Celiac Disease and blood tests were ordered??? I didnt think that a colonoscopy showed Celiac disease, so I think it may have something else, but hey I am no doctor so what do i know.

I look forward to chatting with you further, I am very worried about all my testing lately as well, so we can be worried together!! :)

Yea, a guy who will give you one number, but won't give you another number has something to hide, either from you or someone else. File him as an aquaintance.

I hope your appt gives you some answers.

Hi Lisa

I sure hope that your tests will finally give you some concrete answers--I know it's been a "long haul" for you!

Sorry about your friends--although it's not quite the same, you know you always have us here to talk to. You can PM me anytime! :)

Lisa,

A recap about what has led up to this and what you've been struggling with healthwise would be helpful so we get a better idea what is prompting this clonoscopy appointment. I vaguely remember your earlier post(s) but we read a lot of posts and we need a little refresher.

I assume you are having some GI distress. If you are being tested for Celiac disease please know that a colonoscopy will not be helpful. A colonoscopy gives the doctor a look at the colon, i.e., the last part of your intestinal track. What needs to be done for dx Celiac disease is an endoscopy, a scoping of the upper part of the intestinal track, which is the part the disease does damange to. Have you had the antigliadin blood tests done yet? That is usuall the starting point in Celiac dx.

I have had both procedures done at one time or another. They were not painful.

Steve

PaulaG and trents...I will refresh your memory ;)

I've been in severe constant pains since January 28th of this year(yes, the pains have continued from that day, never faded), even eating 100% strict gluten-free gives me pains. they've seemed to ruled out any other options, so I got in for an emergancy colonoscopy / barium x-rays, because my family doctor and the doc who took the scope/x-rays suspect I have Crohn's disease (not just Celiac)..

Nancy/Patti--yeah the guy issue just sucks..I thought he was a good friend, and it would be nice to have more than 1 potential boyfriend, but I guess thats just not possible for me! I've already text messaged the other one about how I've been feeling, hopefully reply, I'll let you know if he does :P

Hope you're sleeping and not wide awake because of your appt tomorrow. I'm crossing my fingers that they found some answers for you.

Cute picture! I need to get one up one of these days too. With the kids, I'm the one usually taking the pictures and rarely in them. It really is nice putting a face to a name.

Well, I ended up spending 2 hours between the the doctors office and the hospital...

The test showed just what I suspected...a big ******* nothing...The doctor in Yorkton (who took the tests)doesnt know what it can be, he suspects some sort of infection...my family doctor is completely clueless, himself...He says its all up to the specialist in Regina now, to suggest what I do...I mentioned about being sent to Calgary if the specialist in Regina cant figure it out, and even my family doctor nodded his head... :(

Then my family doc was nice enough to drive me to the hospital and called one of the ladies from the lab to come and give things for me to take stool samples again (to see if that infection is there or not)...Once I collect enough samples (which will take 6 days at the shortest), then I have to take a prescription of Cipro and Flagyl...

All I feel like doing right now is crawling into a corner and just crying...I know that probably sounds retarded, but this is hard for me to take...The worst part is that I dont even have a friend to come and give me a hug (the nearest lives 2 hours away) :(

I'm really hating life right now...

Time to go attempt some homework, even tho I dont feel like doing it AT ALL, but I am positive my teachers wont accept any of this as an excuse tomorrow when its not done...

Oh Lisa... I'm so sorry. It doesn't sound retarded at all. You just need some answers. It doesn't even matter what the answer is I'm sure. You've been going through a lot this year and you've got to be exhausted of everything.

Hopefully the Cipro and Flagyl will help. I've heard that those can be pretty strong on your system, so don't be surprised if you don't feel so great with those. But if you've got an infection somewhere, that will take care of it.

Can you have the results sent to a well know celiac specialist to see if they have a clue? Hugs!!!!

Well, I've been on the Cipro before, 2 or 3 times this year, obviously that didnt do the job, so it cant be a stupid infection like they say ... the worst part of all is I didnt hear from my close friend :(

Lisa, I am so sorry. I can only imagine how hard this is on you, to be going through this alone. But, I can understand that you would want an answer now and any answer will be fine. Then you can cope with it and move forward. Please keep posting here as we will certainly try and give you all the support and caring thoughts that we can. Many Hugs!!!

Yes, I would take any answer, I dont care how bad it is even. ANYTHING.

Wish you could give me a real hug :P

I know you guys support me, and I love you all sooo much for that, wish I could get more support from the people I personally know, tho!

This will be fun trying to explain to my teachers tomorrow (without breaking into tears)...

sorry to hear about your frustration with the medical test results and the infection....

Don't stress yourself over this..it'll make you sicker. Stay calm, take the anti biotic and anti viral meds (try to take probiotics too).

I know it's hard to accept "what is" and "what can and cannot be changed." That's my husband's situation too.

Take lots of care,

Deb

Thank you for all the excellent information. I moved from Wyoming to California. May be its where I am located but So far none of the Costco Kirkland brand I have looked at is labeled gluten free. Same with the Sam's Members Mark. The Kirkland nuts you mention all say they are processed in a plant that processes wheat.  I am going to keep checking. Thank you. The Azure Market looks promising 😁 Take care S

I’m glad you have a clear answer.  Some endoscopes have enough magnification for the doctor to see the damage during the procedure.

Welcome to the club!😉 This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):

I could not find the thread, but I recall at least one user who was drinking regular gluten beer daily but getting celiac blood tests done often (I think it was monthly) and doing a biopsy each year and all celiac disease tests were always negative. Everyone is different, but in general regular beer would be considered low gluten (not gluten-free!). I have no issues with Daura Damm, but those who are super sensitive might.

Azure Standard (https://www.azurestandard.com/) is one of my gluten-free vendors. I've purchased nuts, "grains", flours, and many other products there. If you are not familiar with Azure, you have to set up an account (no cost) and get your purchases either via shipping (expensive) or "drop" (free if you buy a reasonable minimum). Search their website for a drop location in your area. Each drop location has a local volunteer(?) coordinator who coordinates with the local customers. I go to a drop 4-5 miles from my home that delivers every 2 weeks. We seem to range from 8-18 customers at a given delivery. The downside of the drop is that you have to be there when they say. They give you a few days notice of the precise time, though, and they are punctual. Their pricing relative to other vendors for various products ranges from best price to overpriced, so you have to shop and compare. Quality is mostly good but once in a while you get a dud - however they've been very responsive to giving me a credit on the few occasions when I've complained. In my opinion, they are not as transparent about gluten as they could be. Some products are labeled "gluten free" and so far I trust that. Many products are labeled "Azure Market products are re-packaged by Azure for your convenience in a facility that meets Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) standards, including an approved allergen control program." I've corresponded with them over this and they all but say this means gluten free. I've come to trust this, with a little nervousness, but I wish they would be more explicit. They also sell a lot of gluten-containing products. Frankly, I think they are overlooking a business opportunity to become a trusted source for the gluten-free community by not being more clear about gluten. Among Azure products I've purchased are "Walnuts, Baker's Pieces, Raw", "Cashews, Raw, Large White Pieces, Organic" and "Missouri Northern Pecan Grower Pecans Fancy Native, Raw, Halves". The walnuts and cashews were very good and the pecans were fabulous. For almonds, I've been buying Blue Diamond unsalted when they go on sale (mostly from Safeway). The salted ones are probably fine too but the flavored ones I avoid now that I am gluten-free. I also buy products including nuts from CostCo (cashews, shelled pistachios). Their nuts usually contain a "made in a facility that processes wheat" statement, which is scary. I've contacted customer service about various Kirkland products and they will usually give you a response <<for a specific lot>> whether it really was made in a wheat facility (sometimes yes sometimes no). For the "Kirkland Signature Fancy Whole Cashews, Unsalted, 40 oz" and "Kirkland Signature Shelled Pistachios, Roasted & Salted, 1.5 lbs", I got a "safe" answer and I ate them. I got an "unsafe" answer once for "Kirkland Signature Fancy Whole Cashews with Sea Salt, 2.5 lbs" and "Kirkland Signature Dry Roasted Macadamia Nuts, Salted, 1.5 lbs" and I don't look at these anymore. Again, these answers were given for specific lots only. They will accept an unopened return for cash if you find out you don't want it. Costco also sells "Kirkland Signature Super Extra-Large Peanuts, 2.5 lbs" that are labeled gluten free. My celiac kid eats them all the time. I pretty much only eat food that I prepare myself from scratch. My celiac symptoms are not that overt, so I can't say for certain I could identify a glutening. However, my antibody levels dropped 25 fold (into normal range) since my dx earlier this year. Hope this helps.
