super hero....I don't know.....I am just genetically UN-SCARED. As a very little girl, 6,7,8 years old, if I would hear a noise in the house during the night, I would take out my aluminum bat and go out looking for trouble, to GET IT..... I have this very strange bad-ass (as I am called by friends) vigilante streak - it's mellowed a bit as I"ve gotten older (because I"m too tired), but many nights in Monterey, accidentally fell asleep wtih front door wide open, and all doors were pretty much always unlocked. I EAGERLY AWAIT confronting trouble-makers.....they make me MAD and they JUST SHOULD NOT be doing what they are doing!:angry: And no one ever harasses me, because I have always, since I was little, stared people dead in the eye when passing them - I always have looked at people, cars, everything around me in case required to do a police sketch later or be an eye-witness to a crime...... And have tried to train my nieces in same - it doesnt' work, they walk timidly and get hassled all the time ;)

Backpacking in the woods alone, at night......now THAT would scare me. There was once a near-death situation on a hiking trip in Big Sur (my stinker passed out, had to be carried out three of the five miles, was dx two days later w/ lymphoma). I was with a former Marine Harrier pilot - MANY animals and creatures and psycho killers in the forests of Big Sur.....and it got dark and late, many noises - - even HE was slightly scared....... We got home at 10 pm and I was exhilirated to know that I was NORMAL - - I got scared!!

:lol::lol: Nope, it's a fantastic artifact from a yard sale, hangs by the front door. Everyone loves it.....you would not be scared, unless you made me MAD :lol::lol:

and damn well better believe I"d use the thing if an intruder came..... ;)

Remember, I also have barking dingos here who would notify me INSTANTLY if anybody came in. :)

For a moment you conjured up visions of Jan-Michael Vincent in "Defiance"...the movie climaxes with him cleaning up the neighborhood with an axe handle

Alone in the woods scares you - you should watch Blair witch all the way thru :o

What does an Iroquois Skull Crusher look like? (asked in a pleasant voice so as not to find out the hard way)

nope....how in the world do you do that link thing? I am a Luddite....

no....it's a very long rawhide-wrapped handle, plain, no beading, and the end is a rather football-shaped very heavy rock, pointed on both ends. Thwack that in someone's temple and it would be all over. :o

I have photos of it in my computer, don't know how to make them go on here.

more like Open Original Shared Link?

The link think is easy. open a 2nd window and search for whatever, when you find it hightlight and copy the address from the address bar. write your post like normal. when you get to where you want to insert the link hilight the word you want the reader to click and then click on the globe thingy in the post toolbar. a little window will pop up. right click and paste the address you copied earlier and voila...it doesn't sound so simple now that i typed it out :(

yes, that is almost what it looks like, excellent work. Imagine, I got it for $1 at a yard sale. it's worth about $250, quite low (some go as high as $2500) because it is a museum-quality repro from early last century.

okay.....had to read that paragraph about 10 times to try adn get it......still haven't gotten it......brain lapses.....will see if I can figure it out - remember, am Amish

okay.....read your instructions again.....but what if the thing I want to highlight/link is in my own computer, in a picture file? I do know about cut and paste for linkage, am quite excited to know about the little globe thing.......

You need to upload the pic to a picture hosting site like photobucket or flickr. there are other picture hosting sites but these are the ones I like (and they're free :D). Then you can link to your picture. On photobucket there will be a little box with 'url' to the left of it, highlight that text, it's a direct link to that picture. I'm still new to flickr so I won't be much help there...still learning :)

Susie- You would be a great superhero fighting crime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That would be sweet!

Scariest Movies I NEVER wish to see again:

The Exorcist

The Omen (esp. Final Conflict)

Amittyville Horror

House of like a gazillion (13?) corpses

DON'T LIKE POSSESSION

Scary Movies I LOVE:

The Shining

Bram Stoker's dracula

Silence of the Lambs

My students tell me about the Saw movies and I can tell you RIGHT NOW...I will never see them.

The Blair Witch Project was scary when I thought it was true...once I found out it was fake I thought it was annoying. :P

In 8th grade I read Amittyville Horror and Helter Skelter- yes, took them out of my Catholic grammar school library- didn't sleep for months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like supernatural/haunting stuff but not gore and possession.

Oh yeah, I forgot I was going to post info about an alternative way of making links....I've never gotten the hang of doing it with the little globe thingy and the first message board I ever posted at didn't have one so I had to learn how to do it by hand.

Anyways...you need to use these bracket thingys --> [ ]

For a link you put in front of the link and in back of it. When you just copy and paste the url address into your post the message board program does it for you. If you want to put words in front of your url so it looks like underlined text you're going to type something like this:

text you want in front of the link

So yeah, that's what I do. Hope it helps somebody :)

My crime fighting weapon of choice is a 35 oz. Louisville slugger under my bed. It's not museum quality, but it is game proven

If I were you I wouldn't leave my primary crime fighting weapon on display by the front door (esp. if you have a habit of leaving the doors unlocked :o ) What happens when you hear the bump in the night? Do you put on your ninja outfit and do cartwheels and backflips to the front door? I find it easier to just reach under the bed and grab the justice stick and start doling out some punishment. Granted I live in the sticks, so most of the bumps in the night are varied vermin on my back deck, but it's nice to know I've got a nice piece of ash under my bed :P

I forgot you were Amish - actually i thought you were Mennonite (uber-Amish? )

Those instructions were meant to illustrate why I don't write instruction manuals...I'm much better if I can be seen waving my hands in big exagerated circles to emphasize important points :D

When we lived in the country, I had a shotgun under our bed. It wasn't loaded (but could have been easily enough), but if anyone intruders heard that sound only a shotgun makes, I hardly think they'd stick around to find out! A neighbor was robbed at gunpoint .... $39 was stolen for meth. Our next-door neighbor had just gotten out of juvenile detention ... if you didn't need the shotgun for coyotes, you sure needed it for safety! We had a skeet shooting launcher, so everyone knew we had guns ... never had any trouble.

My ex-girlfriend worked for a company in Nj that makes targets for police academies and ranges, etc. her bosses were big into Ducks unlimited, so we got invited to all of their shoots. I'll never forget the first one we went to. the little lady had never handled a gun before so one of her co-workers was giving her the safety talk and showing her around the shotgun. She fired off a couple of rounds to get comfy and we headed out try our hand at the clay pigeons. They had given her a double barrel to use...up goes a pigeon, she misses and misses badly, then disgustedly spins around with the shotgun - with a pouty face. Meanwhile everyone else realized that she only fired one barrel and is waving around a loaded weapon - talk about uncomfortable - she was clueless (on most things now that i think about it :P )

ROFL I grew up around guns. My step-father is a hunter, so he thought it was safest for us to know how to use them. When I was 10 or 11 and my step-brother was a year younger than I, he and I were shooting a can with a pellet gun. After a while we couldn't tell if we hit it or not because it had so many dents in it from the pellets, so we got the 22 and started shooting the can with the 22. After probably 20 minutes, the adults realized they were ALL inside and came running out. We genuinely didn't understand their concern because we were using the gun safety we knew so well.

I read Nikki's post before I went to it ... so I didn't jump ... was it because I was warned, don't know ... my neighbor keeps trying to get me back for scaring him once (unintentionally), so maybe I'm just used to it!

@Colleen H   I am just curious,  when you were tested for coeliac disease, did the doctors find out if you had any deficiencies? Sometimes muscle pain can be caused by certain deficiencies, for example, magnesium, vitamin D, calcium, and potassium.   Might be worth looking into having some more tests.  Pins and needles can be neuropathy, again caused by deficiencies, such as iron and B12,  which can be reversed if these deficiencies are addressed. In the UK where I live we are usually only tested for iron, B12 and vitamin D deficiencies at diagnosis.   I was very iron anemic and supplementation made a big difference.  B12 was low normal, but in other countries the UK's low normal would be considered a deficiency.  My vitamin D was low normal, and I've been supplementing ever since (when I remember to take it!) My pins and needles definitely started to improve when my known deficiencies were addressed.  My nutritionist also gave me a broad spectrum supplement which really helped, because I suspect I wasn't just deficient in what I mention above but in many other vitamins and minerals.  But a word of warning, don't take iron unless blood tests reveal you actually need it, and if you are taking it your levels must be regularly monitored because too much can make you ill.  (And if you are currently taking iron, that might actually be making your stomach sore - it did mine, so my GP changed my iron supplementation to a gentler form, ferrous gluconate). Lastly, have you been trying to take anything to lessen the pain in your gut?  I get a sore stomach periodically, usually when I've had too much rich food, or when I have had to take an aspirin or certain antibiotics, or after glutening.  When this happens, I take for just a few days a small daily dose of OTC omeprazole.  I also follow a reflux or gastritis diet. There are lots online but the common denominators to these diets is you need to cut out caffeine, alcohol, rich, spicy, acidic food etc and eat small regularly spaced meals.   When I get a sore stomach, I also find it helpful to drink lots of water.  I also find hot water with a few slices of ginger very soothing to sip, or camomile tea.  A wedge pillow at night is good for reflux. Also,  best not to eat a meal 2-3 hours before going to bed. If the stomach pain is getting worse, though, it would be wise to see the doctor again. I hope some of this helps. Cristiana

I was diagnosed with coeliac disease a couple of years ago [ish]. I love my food and a variety of food, so it's been hard, as it is with everyone. I try and ensure everything I eat doesn't contain gluten, but occasionally I think something must have got through that has gluten in. Mainly I know because I have to dash to the loo, but recently I have noticed that I feel nauseous after possibly being glutened. I think the thing that I have got better at is knowing what to do when I feel wiped out after a gluten 'episode'. I drink loads of water, and have just started drinking peppermint tea. I also have rehydration powders to drink. I don't feel like eating much, but eventually feel like I need to eat. Gluten free flapjacks, or gluten free cereal, or a small gluten free kids meal are my go to. I am retired, so luckily I can rest, sometimes even going to bed when nothing else works. So I feel that I am getting better at knowing how to try and get back on track. I am also trying to stick to a simpler menu and eat mostly at home so that I can be more confident about what I am eating. THANKS TO THOSE WHO REPLIED ABOUT THE NAUSEA .

Thanks. Since the back and forth and promises of review and general stalling went on for more than six months, the credit company will no longer investigate. They have a cutoff of maybe six months.
    • Scott Adams
Is this the same restaurant? https://www.facebook.com/TheHappyTartFallsChurch/ Is it too late to take this up with your credit card company? Normally you have a few months to do a chargeback with them. It seems very odd that they are taking this approach with someone who is likely to be a regular customer--not a good business-minded way of handling things!
    • Scott Adams
Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The good news is that after your gut heals (for most people who are 100% gluten-free this will take several months to two years) you may be able to slowly add some these items back into your diet after the damaged villi heal. This article may be helpful: The most common nutrient deficiencies associated with celiac disease that may lead to testing for the condition include iron, vitamin D, folate (vitamin B9), vitamin B12, calcium, zinc, and magnesium.  Unfortunately many doctors, including my own doctor at the time, don't do extensive follow up testing for a broad range of nutrient deficiencies, nor recommend that those just diagnosed with celiac disease take a broad spectrum vitamin/mineral supplement, which would greatly benefit most, if not all, newly diagnosed celiacs. Because of this it took me decades to overcome a few long-standing issues I had that were associated with gluten ataxia, for example numbness and tingling in my feet, and muscle knots--especially in my shoulders an neck. Only long term extensive supplementation has helped me to resolve these issues.
