Richard- Were you spying on my anniversary getaway?:ph34r::lol:

Thou knowest thy love is true,

Onst the spouse doth begin to spew,

'neath the covers shar-ed,

What stench from yonder skivvies emminates?

'tis true, 'tis pity, and pity 'tis 'tis true...

Emily- I can now answer the eternal question I dunno what's worse, guys...spouse with heinous smell from flatus, or hockeyus baggus...

It's CLEARLY husbandus flatus but hockeyus baggus is a VERY close second.

BTW- NEVER eat brussel sprouts and expect to get away gas free

By the afternoon at work I felt a little better but tonight again I feel blah! My stomach is twirling again too. I know its the stomach flu, everyone said they were dead tired at first and then the "fun stuff" happened. Better this week than next.

I went down to meet Landen, my neighbors brand new baby. I saw him on monday in the nursery but I got to spend time down there tonight and boy is he a doll.

Target....you can get eveyrthing there. And the housewares section - w/ affordable designs by posh designers.......OMG. Always changing, always new, always happy.....and so after you've picked up your candles/bras/underwear/shoes/baby stuff/Ipod equipment/gift items/appliances/sheets/towels/lamps/hardware you can go get all of your gardening supplies and plants, and some wine and beer, lots of glutenized food, delicious candies (that Choxie brand, which Gail calls 'Joanie loves Chochi'), all manner of dishware, containers, makeup, and cleaning supplies....then pet foods, drugs, blah blah blah. What did I leave out?

MARVELLOUS!!

Sounds like Ikea with extras (Do you guys have Open Original Shared Link?......oh ...I love it!!)

What is with the wicker and rattan large square hampers/containers, and the endless wanting of them??? I am drawn, adn stare fixedly at them for a while, longingly.....

An international thing me thinks.

One can never have enough of the buggers...in fact I need some new ones

Well....I"m sitting here typing away......have put jewelry supplies in the new bamboo organizers (which in actuality were purchased at TJ Maxx, next door to Target and cheaper)

Well now - we do have TJ Maxx in the UK....it's mainly clothes (designer)...but I'm not a big fan 'cos it always looks like a Open Original Shared Linkto me and I can't be bothered to look through everything.

Raining here too. Another dreary day.

Ikea is neat, we have one out towards Philly that we go to every now and again.

Yo, Richard! Don't suppose I'll catch you before you go...but I kept thinking of last night's unimaginable combination: Richard Simmons, and a full moon...having both of them, the same night, at one's house...and you live to speak of it. Too bad he didn't stick around, as I imagine he would put everything he's got into house painting. Probably have several rooms done within an hour, while having burned 790 calories. Could have made the job go much quicker! Everyone else who is approaching 1000 posts, keep this in mind, and try to arrange the thousandth post on a day where you're cleaning out your garage, moving, or clearing trees from your cottage property.

(...can you see RS in lumberjack gear?)... :o:lol:

What say me??? I say there is no way in hell that I'm doing Richard Simmons' laundry? I say throw some paint thinner on it and torch it! Well . . . probably don't even need the paint thinner.

As far as RG goes . . . as of 9:10am est . . . let's see . . . yes, he STILL needs a lung transplant.

Hmmmmm, that leaves all things flatus . . . that's pretty ambiguous and I'm not sure that I'm qualified to handle that much responsibility . . . maybe we'll just let that one float/waft/linger out there for the time being.

I'm with you baby!!!!!!!!! We need a racous (well- as racous as possible considering the absence of our founding member however, as the Sex Pistols say "God save the Queen").

The queen has the worst head cold she has had in a very long time (OH CARLA- remind me why this is a good sign when you have Lyme disease  ), couldn't sleep last night and am now on the couch.............wait....I WAS watching the scary old movie Halloween (you know- Mike Meyers?) but there was only 9 minutes of it cuz hubby cut it off to record Sox versus Colorado. BOO!!!!!!!

Julie- Are you a baseball fan? Are you excited about Colorado? I am NOT a baseball lover- give me my HOCKEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. I know- that's like treason where I live (in Red Sox Nation).

I guess I'll be the one to do Richard Simmons's laundry. :( :( :( :(

Well, since you've got a head cold, it might not be so bad . . . other than the sheer labor involved! Of course, he doen't really wear much, does he? Skimpy shorts and a tank top. :o Perhaps a towel to dab at his damp brow. Might get away with just one load . . . unless he brought his dirty laundry with him to Richard's house. <_<

Subject: His and Hers Diary

HER

DIARY

Tonight I thought he was acting weird. We had made plans to meet at a

bar to have a drink. I was shopping with my friends all day long, so I

thought he was upset at the fact that I was a bit late, but he made no

comment.

Conversation wasn't flowing so I suggested that we go somewhere quiet so

we could talk. He agreed but he kept quiet and absent. I asked him what

was wrong; he said nothing. I asked him if it was my fault that he was

upset. He said it had nothing to do with me and not to worry.

On the way home I told him that I loved him, he simply smiled and kept

driving. I can't explain his behavior. I don't know why he didn't say I

love you too.

When we got home I felt as if I had

lost him, as if he wanted nothing to

do with me anymore. He just sat there

and watched T.V......He seemed distant

and absent.

Finally, I

decided to go to bed. About 10 minutes later he came to bed, and to my

surprise he responded to my caress and we made love, but I still felt

that he was distracted and his thoughts were somewhere else. He fell

asleep - I cried.

I don't know what to do. I'm almost sure that his thoughts are with

someone else. My life is a disaster.

HIS DIARY

I shot the worst round of golf in my life today, but at least I got laid

I don't feel too great. I am thinking about staying home tomorrow. Maybe a days worth of rest would do me good. Thanks for asking though. I am just run-down and my stomach feels yucky!

Welcome to the forum, @Judy M! Yes, he definitely needs to continue eating gluten until the day of the endoscopy. Not sure why the GI doc advised otherwise but it was a bum steer.  Celiac disease has a genetic component but also an "epigenetic" component. Let me explain. There are two main genes that have been identified as providing the "potential" to develop "active" celiac disease. We know them as HLA-DQ 2.5 (aka, HLA-DQ 2) and HLA-DQ8. Without one or both of these genes it is highly unlikely that a person will develop celiac disease at some point in their life. About 40% of the general population carry one or both of these two genes but only about 1% of the population develops active celiac disease. Thus, possessing the genetic potential for celiac disease is far less than deterministic. Most who have the potential never develop the disease. In order for the potential to develop celiac disease to turn into active celiac disease, some triggering stress event or events must "turn on" the latent genes. This triggering stress event can be a viral infection, some other medical event, or even prolonged psychological/emotional trauma. This part of the equation is difficult to quantify but this is the epigenetic dimension of the disease. Epigenetics has to do with the influence that environmental factors and things not coded into the DNA itself have to do in "turning on" susceptible genes. And this is why celiac disease can develop at any stage of life. Celiac disease is an autoimmune condition (not a food allergy) that causes inflammation in the lining of the small bowel. The ingestion of gluten causes the body to attack the cells of this lining which, over time, damages and destroys them, impairing the body's ability to absorb nutrients since this is the part of the intestinal track responsible for nutrient absorption and also causing numerous other food sensitivities such as dairy/lactose intolerance. There is another gluten-related disorder known as NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity or just, "gluten sensitivity") that is not autoimmune in nature and which does not damage the small bowel lining. However, NCGS shares many of the same symptoms with celiac disease such as gas, bloating, and diarrhea. It is also much more common than celiac disease. There is no test for NCGS so, because they share common symptoms, celiac disease must first be ruled out through formal testing for celiac disease. This is where your husband is right now. It should also be said that some experts believe NCGS can transition into celiac disease. I hope this helps.

My husband has had lactose intolerance for his entire life (he's 68 yo).  So, he's used to gastro issues. But for the past year he's been experiencing bouts of diarrhea that last for hours.  He finally went to his gastroenterologist ... several blood tests ruled out other maladies, but his celiac results are suspect.  He is scheduled for an endoscopy and colonoscopy in 2 weeks.  He was told to eat "gluten free" until the tests!!!  I, and he know nothing about this "diet" much less how to navigate his in daily life!! The more I read, the more my head is spinning.  So I guess I have 2 questions.  First, I read on this website that prior to testing, eat gluten so as not to compromise the testing!  Is that true? His primary care doctor told him to eat gluten free prior to testing!  I'm so confused.  Second, I read that celiac disease is genetic or caused by other ways such as surgery.  No family history but Gall bladder removal 7 years ago, maybe?  But how in God's name does something like this crop up and now is so awful he can't go a day without worrying.  He still works in Manhattan and considers himself lucky if he gets there without incident!  Advice from those who know would be appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!

You've done an excellent job of meticulously tracking the rash's unpredictable behavior, from its symmetrical spread and stubborn scabbing to the potential triggers you've identified, like the asthma medication and dietary changes. It's particularly telling that the rash seems to flare with wheat consumption, even though your initial blood test was negative—as you've noted, being off wheat before a test can sometimes lead to a false negative, and your description of the other symptoms—joint pain, brain fog, stomach issues—is very compelling. The symmetry of the rash is a crucial detail that often points toward an internal cause, such as an autoimmune response or a systemic reaction, rather than just an external irritant like a plant or mites. I hope your doctor tomorrow takes the time to listen carefully to all of this evidence you've gathered and works with you to find some real answers and effective relief. Don't be discouraged if the rash fluctuates; your detailed history is the most valuable tool you have for getting an accurate diagnosis.
    • Scott Adams
In this case the beer is excellent, but for those who are super sensitive it is likely better to go the full gluten-free beer route. Lakefront Brewery (another sponsor!) has good gluten-free beer made without any gluten ingredients.
    • trents
Welcome to the forum, @catsrlife! Celiac disease can be diagnosed without committing to a full-blown "gluten challenge" if you get a skin biopsy done during an active outbreak of dermatitis herpetiformis, assuming that is what is causing the rash. There is no other known cause for dermatitis herpetiformis so it is definitive for celiac disease. You would need to find a dermatologist who is familiar with doing the biopsy correctly, however. The samples need to be taken next to the pustules, not on them . . . a mistake many dermatologists make when biopsying for dermatitis herpetiformis.
