Dad likes the thermostat set to 82 (insert sweaty emoticon).

My parents have the opposite obsession - keeping their fuel bills down :rolleyes: ...dear god! you need your thermals on round there....you can scrape the ice off the inside of the windows in the depth of winter. The penguins + polar bears congregate in their bathroom as it's too warm in the garden ;)

No celiac here either - although I've never been tested. I suppose it's my turn. I was pretty sure that it came from my husbands side of the family based on the number of people on that side with digestive issues.

You never know....*I* was dx'd with IBS as a child, I've had a lifetime of stomach issues ...hubby used to say our middle son inherited my weak stomach.

Boy - did he have to eat his words when it turned out he + middle son had celiac disease :lol: (who's got the 'weak stomach' now ;) )

Wow! I didn't know you could do that! I knew about overemoticonizing but not excessive quotifying. Huh, learn something new everyday . . . guess I'm done for today.

Well nor me - I think I had too much to comment on :lol:

My boyfriend's family is in Old Fort (or Old Fart, depending on whose talking)

No shopping here. Read about it in the paper and was amazed.

We actually did shop .... we needed something at Bed, Bath and Beyond, so stopped there around 5:30 PM on the way home from the gym .... so we were wearing gym clothes, of course. On our way out some guy as big as both of us put together asked if we had been at it all day .... I guess he doesn't know what gym clothes look like! To him, I guess we looked like we just rolled out of bed! :lol: There was no line at all .... we didn't find what we were looking for (something for the kitchen window), but found something I've wanted for a long time (throw pillows for the family room).

Sounds delicious, and it's looking great in your av - I'll be over later (plus I want to gaze at your Aga!!! :lol: )

Thanks! Yes, and as you can see in the avatar, the tea kettle is on (I actually was making a cup of tea :)).

Adam took that pic on the phone ... I had rolled out of bed, pulled on jeans and a sweatshirt, put my hair in a clip, and went downstairs .... when I asked him to email it to me, he couldn't believe it was going on the internet! I figure if some of you shop in your pj's this pic is fine. :lol:

Well, of course not! But I'm pretty sure staying home to chat with the sillies will be considered an unexcused absence. Now, if you can somehow sustain a concusion . . . didn't happen to play Sunday Night Football, did ya?

Well, I didn't make it to class - but it was for a good reason, I swear! My boyfriend is sick so I had to do a quick run to Wal-Mart for pepto and ginger ale. Does this mean I'm getting the 1000-post sickness early?!? :wacko: That counts as an excused absence, right?

I am so dissapointed in myself, I have not checked this thread all morning...I have been piled with work. The nerve of people, don't they see it is a Rainy Cold Monday, 1st day of a 5-day work week....what are they thinking??? :D

Nikki! This explains it! You are absolutely celiac! Got some symptoms, and you're hilariously funny! Recalling my theory about gluten trouble and wittiness being located on the same HLA gene, I think that one's sense of humour should be a recognised diagnostic tool. I would bet it's a heckuva lot more accurate than blood or biopsy work. Yes, you must crack some jokes for the GI...this could work...!

Maybe there's been a promotion on, and we missed the flyers...you can get bodily fluids at twenty posts if you volunteer to do some office work for Scott. Or babysit his kids, or wash his car....Have you done anything like that, Joyful, in the last couple of days? That could be it.... :lol:

Seriously, South Carolina is so hard core that the public schools get at least a two hour delay for half an inch of snow :rolleyes:

Oh, and an embarrassing story to entertain all of you at work:

I took my boyfriend's car to Wal-Mart, cause his parents pay for his gas.

When I got there, I locked the doors, then manually unlocked the drivers side, since it's a Buick and I only had the ignition key with me. After getting the supplies, I go to the car, open the door...and the alarm goes off. WTH? I've ridden in and driven this car for two an a half years, and I have NEVER heard the alarm. So I'm sitting in the parking lot freaking out watching an employee laugh at me through the rear-view mirror. After ten minutes it finally goes off, and I drive back to school. I pull in the parking lot behind his dorm, turn off the car, pull out the fuse for the antenna (it's a weird car), open the door...and the alarm goes off again. <_<

I know Nikki---I feel like I am betraying you guys :) I will try harder to post this afternoon.

Yep raining in the Northeast today. Going to get heavyier as the day goes on....and into tonight. Tomorrow they say very cold and windy...fun fun!

Now I am off to Employee Health to get a TB shot, the hospital mandates them yearly, so anyone want to go in my place, I am not up to being poked today :) LOl!

Heinous! I hate shots! I have to get blood work done this week ... Chloe, too .... that's monthly and we both hate it!

While waiting for the ferry, lots of people stand outside on the walkway overlooking the loading area for the cars. One time some poor guy with either a new car, or someone else's car, managed to set off the alarm. and not remember how to unlock the door. For 15 or 20 minutes this poor man tried to first figure out how to get into his car, then turn off the alarm, with an audience of 100 or so people watching him.

When he finally got it, the whole walkway clapped...

Uh, not here .... with six kids, no chance of THAT! :P Paying for our college student's room/board/tuition/books is enough, she can spring for her own gas money.

Well, she does always hit me up for my credit card when she's in town ..... but I guess I can pay for her gas to come HOME!! ;)

Seriously. Josh does have to pay for his school bill, cell phone and car insurance. I just pay for gas. I think I have the better deal.

Carla!! Yay kitchen!!

At my Mom&Dad's 50th wedding anniversary, we all stayed at a lodge at a State Park in Illinois. We took over the small lodge bar on a Friday night. We "adopted" the only stranger brave enough to enter the bar. We introduced him as our cousin Steve. If it was someone from my Dad's side, we told them he was from Mom's side and vice versa.

1) yay Illinois, my home state! :)

I can't wait till I have my own home and I can remodel....my kitchen walls are a sad dreary cream color and the appliances although still very functional, I would choose better :)

I literally wept when I found this out..........they are the only trees around, in this sterile, new area, where they knock out all trees and orchards (nearly all) and build houses mere FEEt apart and install VERY FEW small, puny trees. <why do I live here>

I am bereft beyond belief.......I've already been to speak to the LOVELY owners of the property........they said the trees, the view of which I thanked God every night I sat on my patio, are diseased and must go............'tis not entirely true.............but I'm working on them to plan redwoods in their stead, and I will help, ruined back or no.................

I got nothin' silly in me this week, 'tis all egregiousness. BAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :huh:

      Small Bowel Resection 12 inches

      You might consider asking for a referral to a RD (Registered Dietician) to help with food choices and planning a diet. Even apart from any gluten issues, you will likely find there are some foods you need to avoid because of the shorter bowel but you may also find that your system may make adjustments over time and that symptoms may improve.

      Losing 12" of your small bowel is going to present challenges for you in nutritional uptake because you are losing a significant amount of nutritional absorption surface area. You will need to focus on consuming foods that are nutritionally dense and also probably look at some good supplements. If indeed you are having issues with gluten you will need to...

      Losing 12" of your small bowel is going to present challenges for you in nutritional uptake because you are losing a significant amount of nutritional absorption surface area. You will need to focus on consuming foods that are nutritionally dense and also probably look at some good supplements. If indeed you are having issues with gluten you will need to educate yourself as to how gluten is hidden in the food supply. There's more to it than just avoiding the major sources of gluten like bread and pasta. It is hidden in so many things you would never expect to find it in like canned tomato soup and soy sauce just to name a few. It can be in pills and medications.  Also, your "yellow diarrhea, constipation and bloating" though these are classic signs of a gluten disorder, could also be related to the post surgical shorter length of your small bowel causing incomplete processing/digestion of food.

      There are two gluten-related disorders that share many of the same symptoms but differ in nature from each other. One is known as celiac disease or "gluten intolerance". By nature, it is an autoimmune disorder, meaning the ingestion of gluten triggers the body to attack it's own tissues, specifically the lining of the small bowel. This attack causes inflammation and produces antibodies that can be detected in the blood by specific tests like the TTG-IGA test you had. Over time, if gluten is not withheld, this inflammation can cause severe damage to the lining of the small bowel and even result in nutrient deficiency related health issues since the small bowel lining is organ where all the nutrition found in our food is absorbed.  The other is NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity or just "gluten sensitivity") which we know less about and are unsure of the exact mechanism of action. It is not an autoimmune disorder and unlike celiac disease it does not damage the lining of the small bowel, though, like celiac disease, it can cause GI distress and it can also do other kinds of damage to the body. It is thought to be more common than celiac disease. Currently, we cannot test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out to arrive at a diagnosis of NCGS. Both disorders require elimination of gluten from the diet.  Either of these disorders can find their onset at any stage of life. We know that celiac disease has a genetic component but the genes are inactive until awakened by some stress event. About 40% of the general population has the genetic potential to develop celiac disease but only about 1% develop active celiac disease. The incidence of NCGS is thought to be considerably higher.
