Susie snogging with sexy sailors, sounds like a tongue twister :lol:

Methinks Susie ran off on holiday with Jude Law, or to the Hamptons to that beach house....some kind of adventure.

Nuggets could also be involved

It's great fun, isn't it? Addictive, in the strangest of ways...I mean, chocolate or gambling I can understand...but a 1,000-mile sled dog race, a million miles away? What the...?....

WELL.....Michelle must stop being friendly with this Dastardly David Dalton. This is do or die, man....dig in and leave him in a spray of snow!

So, we've gotten the lowdown on Mr. Sass. D'ya think he may have gotten this "virus" from someone quite recently? Wasn't Susie rather ill last week?

Emily!!!! :o Maybe that's her plan.....keep your enemies close ;)

And now it seems that Brent Sass has caught up and all three of them are currently at Pelly Crossing.

In the summer of 1994, Jacquie and I took five weeks and drove to Alaska, visiting a number of places in the real Northwest (the folks in Washington state have a thing or two to learn ;) ). Carmacks and Pelly Crossing are places that I have been to! My brother spent three months in Dawson City this summer.

GO, MICHELLE!!

elye Community Regular

I've never been up to Whitehorse, but we may go this summer. It's a nine-hour flight (we're closer to France, or Italy...crazy!) Man, I'd love to be up at that finish line!! :)

psawyer Proficient

It's getting crowned at Pelly Crossing. Kelley Griffin and her team arrived about an hour ago. Anderson and Mackey are at Carmacks, while Michelle, Dalton, Sass and Griffin are all at Pelly Crossing.

Woohoo!! Michelle gave Dastardly David Dalton a taste of his own medicine hat.

She came in to a checkpoint a minute behind, but last I checked, she was out & he was not. :D yay!!!!!

New Av . . .

If it wasn't for the freaking frigid temps, I think Susie would move to the Yukon for the dogs!!

Morning Sillies!

How is everyone today? We might get some snow again tomorrow. Just like an inch, nothing big.

Good Morning, Fellow Questers!!

Oh, boy.....gettin' REALLY exciting:

Before he left for work, DH was looking at me with his oft-donned expression, "yeah...sure", when I was going on and on about how involved we all are in Sillyville with Michelle's quest. So I led him over to the laptop and scrolled over the last few posts.

He stood, slack-jawed. Then he let out a large guffaw and said, "Whoa! Amazing...I'll email Ed (his bro and Michelle's DH) this morning and tell him. Such far-reaching fans...That is really something"......I quickly stated, "No, Will......ya gotta get it right. It's really somefin'".:lol:

Amanda! How's your SIL? C-sections can involve some true recovery time, and with a newborn to contend with, I'm sure these coming weeks will be something of a trial. But such a happy, wondrous trial! :)

Peter!! Are you guys getting another dumping of SNOW?! Mygawd....coming down here in a frightful storm-like way.

Morning Em,

We are going to see her tonight, she was worn out last night and since she had been up all night pushing she was very tired. So we didn't want to bother her at all. Plus she sounded half out of it from the meds yet.

Well, Mygawd...........perhaps she has!!

Soooooooooooziiiieeeeee!?

Brent Sass has recovered from his stomach bug. I believe Susie is there with him. I can just FEEL it. She's nursed him back to health, been hanging onto his back the last couple of days as they whip over the frozen landscape....:rolleyes:

Amanda, how long does the typical C-sectioned mom stay in hospital down there? I'm curious because here things are HEINOUS. Because we have problems with lack of beds, uncomplicated births have you out in 36 hours, and C-sections I believe are 48-72 hours. Just not long enough.....

She should be home Thurs or Friday.

My sister was home on Friday and she had her C-section on a Monday.

A few flurries expected today, but no significant accumulation. We are expecting about 5 cms (2 in) on Friday.

we are expecting flurries today too Peter.

OMGosh...I totally want to do a dog sled day trip at Michelle's place, lol. I just made the mistake of looking at the link, then clicking on Michelle's bio, THEN the link to her homepage, lol! :P

John and I want a sled dog like on michelles team. They are so beautiful.

dlp252 Apprentice

Yeah, it's something I've wanted to do for a long time. I haven't cruised to Alaska yet, but when I do that's definitely one thing I want to do on an excursion!

I LOVE dogs, but just the whole experience looks like it would be great!

@Jane02, I hear you about the kale and collard greens.  I don't do dairy and must eat green leafies, too, to get sufficient calcium.  I must be very careful because some calcium supplements are made from ground up crustacean shells.  When I was deficient in Vitamin D, I took high doses of Vitamin D to correct the deficiency quickly.  This is safe and nontoxic.  Vitamin D level should be above 70 nmol/L.  Lifeguards and indigenous Pacific Islanders typically have levels between 80-100 nmol/L.   Levels lower than this are based on amount needed to prevent disease like rickets and osteomalacia. We need more thiamine when we're physically ill, emotionally and mentally stressed, and if we exercise like an athlete or laborer.  We need more thiamine if we eat a diet high in simple carbohydrates.  For every 500 kcal of carbohydrates, we need 500-1000 mg more of thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  If there's insufficient thiamine the carbs get stored as fat.  Again, recommended levels set for thiamine are based on minimum amounts needed to prevent disease.  This is often not adequate for optimum health, nor sufficient for people with absorption problems such as Celiac disease.  Gluten free processed foods are not enriched with vitamins like their gluten containing counterparts.  Adding a B Complex and additional thiamine improves health for Celiacs.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Thiamine helps the mitochondria in cells to function.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins.  They are all water soluble and easily excreted if not needed. Thank you so much @knitty kitty for this insightful information! I would have never considered fractionated coconut oil to be a potential source of GI upset. I will consider all the info you shared. Very interesting about the Thiamine deficiency.  I've tracked daily averages of my intake in a nutrition software. The only nutrient I can't consistently meet from my diet is vitamin D. Calcium is a hit and miss as I rely on vegetables, dark leafy greens as a major source, for my calcium intake. I'm able to meet it when I either eat or juice a bundle of kale or collard greens daily haha. My thiamine intake is roughly 120% of my needs, although I do recognize that I may not be absorbing all of these nutrients consistently with intermittent unintentional exposures to gluten.  My vitamin A intake is roughly 900% (~6400 mcg/d) of my needs as I eat a lot of sweet potato, although since it's plant-derived vitamin A (beta-carotene) apparently it's not likely to cause toxicity.  Thanks again!

Hello, @Jane02,  I take Naturewise D 3.  It contains olive oil.   Some Vitamin D supplements, like D Drops, are made with fractionated coconut oil which can cause digestive upsets.  Fractionated coconut oil is not the same as coconut oil used for cooking.  Fractionated coconut oil has been treated for longer shelf life, so it won't go bad in the jar, and thus may be irritating to the digestive system. I avoid supplements made with soy because many people with Celiac Disease also react to soy.  Mixed tocopherols, an ingredient in Thornes Vitamin D, may be sourced from soy oil.  Kirkland's has soy on its ingredient list. I avoid things that might contain or be exposed to crustaceans, like Metagenics says on its label.  I have a crustacean/shellfish/fish allergy.  I like Life Extension Bioactive Complete B Complex.  I take additional Thiamine B 1 in the form Benfotiamine which helps the intestines heal, Life Extension MegaBenfotiamine. Thiamine is needed to activate Vitamin D.   Low thiamine can make one feel like they are getting glutened after a meal containing lots of simple carbohydrates like white rice, or processed gluten free foods like cookies and pasta.   It's rare to have a single vitamin deficiency.  The water soluble B Complex vitamins should be supplemented together with additional Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine and Thiamine TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) to correct subclinical deficiencies that don't show up on blood tests.  These are subclinical deficiencies within organs and tissues.  Blood is a transportation system.  The body will deplete tissues and organs in order to keep a supply of thiamine in the bloodstream going to the brain and heart.   If you're low in Vitamin D, you may well be low in other fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin A and Vitamin K. Have you seen a dietician?

I do not know this, but since they are labelled gluten-free, and are not really a product that could easily be contaminated when making them (there would be not flour in the air of such a facility, for example), I don't really see contamination as something to be concerned about for this type of product.
