 All these nicknames. Actually, Allo's given name is Garth--but I started calling him Allo so much that it stuck years ago, so we consider that his name.

GARTH!! This is a FANTASTIC name for any animal....especially a cat, but would do nicely on a chihuahua or toy poodle... I LOVE it.

.....where ARE your spectacles again??......you'll note size 12 ,which I believe is a US 10 which would get Jenn AND Dr Light Salad in.

Nikki! Wait, now.....

Our size 10 is the same as the US 10, I am certain...and it is just an average, healthy size for a five-foot-five woman...

Mygawd....you mean a British size 12 is for fatties (excuse me...the "robust woman")?....I tried on a number of size 10 and 12 pants while over there, and they were only a bit big.....

You can get two people into a British 12?!.......uh, oh........:blink::lol:

Janet - bah! on the stress!!!!!!.........fingers a crossing Monday :)

Janet! All you need do is instruct DS to pretend to be calm.

I have no idea. I have a nickname for just about everybody! No rhyme or reason to it

Patti, you sound just like my mom. Her nicknames through the years have been unforgettable...As young kids, we were all called "Poop-nose", if you can imagine.:lol:

One thing- I FREAKIN' LOVE YOUSE GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, okay, Bev...but ya can't love these girls tonight....you're there for a reason. Get ready to take 'em down............. :o:lol:

There is currently an advert repeatedly being shown on tv here for Disneyland.......everytime Alan sees it he shrieks ''I'm going!!!!'' ''I'm going!!!!!!''

:D SO exCITing!!!!!!

speaking of Jenn - she did have coffee, which turned into dinner (sushi) and then ice cream w/ Dr. LightSalad last night....it was acceptable, she says, but not overly stellar. He is of good character, nice looking, I told her to be patient and give it a few more tries. ;)

You 'n' yer Kisseyboy set the bar too high for the rest of the unattached.

We are so excited to go to the cabin this Friday. Oh, did I tell you guys? we're going to MY family's cabin, w/ a real toilet, actual shower, a microwave, and ELECTRICITY!!!!!

Ahhhhhhhhhhh <happy sigh> . .. ...Ventana etc etc

I even miss Hwy68 and there's barely anything relatively good about it!

Oh! :o That Pacific Grove gluten-free bakery is called Central Ave Bakery, btw.

It wasn't up for long. It was a photo of Patti and her family. It did provide confirmation of an earlier discussion: Patti is shortvertically challenged. :o

Just a short post to let everyone know I'm still around. Not the usual Wednesday, as we got our weekly delivery yesterday, as Good Friday is a public holiday in these parts.

you mentioned this before.....it *might* be worth a trip into PG.....very out of the way, though. The only chance would be Friday on the way in.....I may call to see how late they're open that day........or send my friend Em in. She lives in Carmel Valley but was raised in Pacific Grove.....an idyllic life, an idyllic friend!

but I digress.......................

Oh yeah .. . .I wouldn't leave Big Sur for ANYTHING either. If I could eat what they've got tho it'd be hard to resist while passing the PG exit.

It's not like (hehe) there's a San Jose gluten-free bakery.

Yeah! So glad that everyone is excited about Alan's trip. You know, for some buffaol tenders (gluten-free of course), I can provide some EXTRA protection :P

OMG. Ladeeeeeez.....can we talk about how evil your common, neighborhood pharmacy drug store is? Seems like a benign thing, right? but nooooooooo.........all sorts of new coloUrs, cosmetics, and smelly things lure the hapless female like moth to flame.

Gail and I used to wander among the cosmetics aisles for a couple of hours...finding all kinds of new pretty, pretty things....to make us soooooo pretty..........

next thing you know, you simply went in to pick up your prescription, and you've spent $40 on.......what? some new "miracle" hair product(s), some lotion, some eye shadow, a new blush, bronzer, some nail polish, a waxing kit, a lipstick, a self-tanner.......

and then you got nothin' to show fer it

Walgreens - harrumph, pure evil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (although this time I got out for under $30 and most were necessities)

Whoa, I hear ya.....but listen to this heavenly scenario: at our Shoppers' Drug Marts, we have a card that gets loaded with points after each purchase. After an accumulation of 35,000 points, one gets $100.00 worth of free merchandise. Well, I rack up those points in a couple of months, as I buy all of my shockingly expensive diabetes supplies there. Well, it is absolute heaven, wandering up and down the cosmetic/magazine/hair stuff/vitamin aisles, gradually filling my cart with FREE STUFF...

Ah, I love when this happens.....

Unfortunately, Shoppers Drug Mart does not carry frames.....no entertaining picture-sneaking....

A great, close hockey game. The girls were thrown all over the place by those HEINOUS AMAZONS, and still ended up winning 3-1. They didn't back down. This is such a great thing for young teenaged girls to learn, to experience. Sophie stood her ground (or ice), came out and challenged, and wasn't annihilated!!

I think Terry & I are more excited!!!

I would be shrieking with glee too! Disney World is magic -- so many good Disney memories from my childhood. He will have sooooo much fun. So excited for him and his equally excited parents! :D

A motley crew--eh? From left to right: Matt, moi, JP and Mark. My guys

I caught your family av while it was up -- very nice looking bunch. I feel like a lucky girl too when I'm surrounded by my 4 special guys (Ryan, Dad, bro, Grandpa)

Helluva game tonight...more later. Gotta go feed my awesome netminder.... :)

Yay Sophie! I bet she stood on her head! (I always liked that saying :P)

I've been busy at Colin's place helping him go 100% gluten-free. We had a tag team going today -- grandpa calling drug companies to check the gluten status of his meds(he declared that he was in desperate need of a stiff drink half way through  ), me helping Colin go through his fridge/cupboards to clear out all the gluten, and my dad making copious lists of the new food and cookware he'll need. We made quite a bit of headway.

Ryan's family invited my my brother, dad, and grandpa to their Easter dinner -- isn't that sweet! So I will have all of my dearest loved ones together for Easter.

OMG . . . I know!!! I love the points system. I usually buy my makeup at Shoppers with my $100 of free stuff. I think I had $200 free stuff one magic Saturday!

I'd go with a vodka tonic, but that's just me😉

That and my nutritionist also said that drinking cider is one of the worst drink choices for me, given that I have candida overgrowth.  She said the combination of the alcohol and sugar would be very likely to worsen my candida problem.  She suggested that if I drink, I go for clear vodka, either neat or with a splash of cranberry.   So in summary, I am giving ciders a rest.  Whether it's a gluten risk or sugars and yeast overgrowth, its just not worth it.

While plain, pure tea leaves (black, green, or white) are naturally gluten-free, the issue often lies not with the tea itself but with other ingredients or processing. Many flavored teas use barley malt or other gluten-containing grains as a flavoring agent, which would be clearly listed on the ingredient label. Cross-contamination is another possibility, either in the facility where the tea is processed or, surprisingly, from the tea bag material itself—some tea bags are sealed with a wheat-based glue. Furthermore, it's important to consider that your reaction could be to other substances in tea, such as high levels of tannins, which can be hard on the stomach, or to natural histamines or other compounds that can cause a non-celiac immune response. The best way to investigate is to carefully read labels for hidden ingredients, try switching to a certified gluten-free tea brand that uses whole leaf or pyramid-style bags, and see if the reaction persists.

This is a challenging and confusing situation. The combination of a positive EMA—which is a highly specific marker rarely yielding false positives—alongside strongly elevated TTG on two separate occasions, years apart, is profoundly suggestive of celiac disease, even in the absence of biopsy damage. This pattern strongly aligns with what is known as "potential celiac disease," where the immune system is clearly activated, but intestinal damage has not yet become visible under the microscope. Your concern about the long-term risk of continued gluten consumption is valid, especially given your family's experience with the consequences of delayed diagnosis. Since your daughter is now at an age where her buy-in is essential for a gluten-free lifestyle, obtaining a definitive answer is crucial for her long-term adherence and health. Given that she is asymptomatic yet serologically positive, a third biopsy now, after a proper 12-week challenge, offers the best chance to capture any microscopic damage that may have developed, providing the concrete evidence needed to justify the dietary change. This isn't about wanting her to have celiac; it's about wanting to prevent the insidious damage that can occur while waiting for symptoms to appear, and ultimately giving her the unambiguous "why" she needs to accept and commit to the necessary treatment. This article might be helpful. It breaks down each type of test, and what a positive results means in terms of the probability that you might have celiac disease. One test that always needs to be done is the IgA Levels/Deficiency Test (often called "Total IGA") because some people are naturally IGA deficient, and if this is the case, then certain blood tests for celiac disease might be false-negative, and other types of tests need to be done to make an accurate diagnosis. The article includes the "Mayo Clinic Protocol," which is the best overall protocol for results to be ~98% accurate.
