We had a HORRIBLE brunch today at this POSH place.......took an hour to get our food - - they kept apologizing that their machines were not printing orders, and they had a new chef and a new menu..........um, what in hell? how LONG does it take to walk back there and tell the chef to cook an omelet? So - FIFTY DOLLARS (included two mimosas and a bloody mary  ) despite their taking 20 % off our bill - - for the most CRAP breakfast I"ve ever had..........BAH!!!!!!!!!! BOLLOCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  At least you got a good rant out of it.

There's a documentary on Newsworld right now about Fidel Castro. What a fascinating character he has been...

He has always loved dogs.

He cannot dance.

As I continue watching, I cannot help but be entranced by my own questions of this enigmatic man....

Wonder if he's ever had absinthe? Or tried cat-poo coffee?

What about asking him to be the celebrity spokesman for our next parade? He's about to die, anyway...

Well.....I suppose if we have it anywhere in the States, he won't be allowed to..... <_<

Ahhh, I saw so many I want! I think a dog may be in our future but we'll probably wait until after the wedding.

Lyle, the slightly smaller black one, likes to sleep on my part of the bed. When I come in he waits until he's sure I'm looking and then flings his body into some incredibly cute pose (I swear they must take classes for that. Or maybe he practices in from of the mirror).

Is Lyle your gender confused cat?

Interesting story for y'all:

OMG, that's such an awesome story! I love hearing about brushes with celebrity. I used to always make my parents retell me their story of riding in an elevator with Pierre Trudeau. I always asked my mom why she didn't ask him for his lapel rose. :P

that's it for now. Going to watch "Dan in Real Life" and hope that it's good.

I found it to be somewhat slow but sweet. Especially good if you enjoy Steve Carell. I can't wait for Get Smart.

Yikes, 300 posts! I hope it's not a big enough number for serious emissions of fluids. Good thing Ori is impeccably housetrained.

Yes. It's very kind of you to remember. We've been working on the self esteem and gender role issues. No matter how many times I tell him that it isn't very manly, he loves to have me brush his tummy.

:) Bye sillies!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How was it? I was dying to see it but have not rented it yet.

This is the first 3-day weekend Landen has spent at our house which means tomorrow morning he will go to work with us and I will meet Jen at the hospital since that is where she also works. We had a very good weekend and he has transitioned into our home very well, and the whole set-up has worked well for all of us.

This morning I napped on the couch from 10-1....and John didn't wake up to 1 either....I am blaming the rainy weather we had. Even my Lucky was sleeping with me on the couch...crazy kitty.

Well I am off to lay down, I just had some salsa and chips...both gluten free from Weggies and my stomach is kind of rumbling a bit....I think it is just too full....ugh!

See ya all in the morning :)

Hi Sillies.....Happy Monday....well as happy as can be expected for the begining of the work week.

This was Landen's first Sunday-Monday at our house and I am pleased to say it went so much better than I expected! He woke at 4 for his bottle and was right back to bed by 4:15. I ended up sleeping on the couch until 6:30. Monday's are always rough for me sleep wise, I always toss and turn so going back to sleep on the couch was the best for me. I just had him up to my office to meet some of my coworkers. He was a real charmer too. They fell in love with him. It was so cute.

Anyway on to work...fun fun fun! I just don't feel much like working today. See you all later.

Emily I beat you!!!! Na-nA-nah!

Nothing in televised history has ever, nor WILL ever, match the comic genius of the Cone of Silence:

Even more hilarious, if possible--the portable model:

What timing!!!! During the two day forced confinement drive to Boston, my hubby was longingly wishing for a cone of silence whilst the childrens argued about their video games.

Sillies, the day wasn't looking so bad...and then I logged onto my online banking account and find that I am in the red by 200. My rent check bounced as well did 2 other checks. Oh this is scary! Human error on our part still scary.

Oh, man!! If I could ONLY strap that portable Cone of Silence onto my children's heads whenever they are in the house...they could be arguing whilst sitting in front of the TV, or at the dinner table , or even walking down the hallway, and I wouldn't have to hear ANY of their arguing....

Think I'll check ebay to see if any strap-on models are available.

Jess- Did you see the link I posted for you of GIANT MICROBES or did I get bev'd again? :o

Very difficult to believe, but Lynda swears that Ms. Winehouse was quiet, seemingly alone much of the time, and quite pleasant. I kept saying, "Mygawd!! How can you NOT have ever seen, or heard of, Amy Winehouse?" She just shrugged, and said (paraphrasing), "this skinny gal with the hair that climbed five feet above her head in a black mass...with frightening tattoos all over the place....just seemed like a strange Brit from the wrong side of the tracks. Couldn't believe it when we learned that she was a BIG recording star".

Hell, don't that just beat the band?

She was apparently swilling back these:

WOW- I can't imagine. Picture swilling back a mamajuana with a wine house??? Kind of makes you think if you met Britney Spears she might actually be polite. Tom Cruise, on the other hand, absofreakinglutely nuts! :P

I'm tellin' ya' . . . chapstick and mascara. The rosy cheeks are curtesy of a hike on the beach the previous day (drizzle, windy and about 42oF).

Now Bev on the other hand was all duded up . . . wanted to make a good impression on me.

True, true. I actually started using Neutrogena "Make me look like I am all duded up" Tanning Spray. Janet on the other hand is actually a natural beauty!

Interesting - and busy - thread on YahooBayAreaCeliac about teff & the Ethiopian bread Injera.

They all agree that there isn't a single Ethiopian restaurant around that doesn't also include some evil wheat in their Injera!!!

Susie? You did Ethiopian a while back .. ...any chance you remember having mystery symptoms??

I'd been looking fwd to going Ethiopian someday. :( :(

It's probably made the traditional way in Ethiopia. In Seattle they use Barley water. flavoring I suppose.

I actually quite like the Sharks....but I really like Calgary.

...And I LOVE the Sens....but they're done, I am certain. :( Although rumour has it that Alfie may be heading back out onto the ice tonight. YAY!!

Will need some absinthe again this evening, to sit through another 60 minutes of their playoff run. I may be on here constantly, running away from it all, grasping for any distraction. If I am seen on here making multiple posts, you'll know that the Ottawa Senators are being crushed.....

Are you a..........Leafs fan????.....

I wish I could share with you all what I got emailed to me today. It's a copy of Michelle's journal that the kept during the entire Quest. It's twelve pages, and just fascinating. Her injuries and accidents, her tricks to keep awake and from temporary insanity as she stood perched for hours on her sled, in utter darkness, in -50 winds....She talks about the other mushers, the comradery and sudden bursts of enmity, the performances of her dogs and how they grieved, literally grieved, when taken out of the line due to injury and left in a vet's care. INCREDIBLE. I'll find out if it is in blog form online, and get the link.

The Make Beliefs?

I used to be a fan, watching Hockey Night in Canada every Saturday. The last season I followed was the 1967-68 one. For me, the expansion just destroyed the quality. This was before the influx of European players, and there was enough talent around to populate six, or maybe seven teams. Twelve was just too many.

I have looked in from time to time since, but the NHL doesn't seem to be about hockey. It is about on-ice violence. And, if the games ends in a tie, either accept that, or PLAY HOCKEY until the outcome is determined. Shootouts are the Devil's work!

End of rant...

I'll take up the rant from here...

The officials are now allowing very vicious hits, shoulder pads are now rock-hard so that contact with another player's upper body can be like slamming into a brick wall....and all because of the belief that the fans want this, that they will not come or tune in unless players are breaking legs or are being thrown into the boards. Very sad. The stereotype of the European player who doesn't know how to fight or prepare properly for a levelling hit is true...they don't know any of this, because they've spent their training lives learning how to play hockey. Quelle concept!!

Okay....someone else wanna take over?

You might consider asking for a referral to a RD (Registered Dietician) to help with food choices and planning a diet. Even apart from any gluten issues, you will likely find there are some foods you need to avoid because of the shorter bowel but you may also find that your system may make adjustments over time and that symptoms may improve.
    • Ello
I wish Dr’s would have these discussions with their patients. So frustrating but will continue to do research. Absolutely love this website. I will post any updates on my testing and results.  Thank you

Losing 12" of your small bowel is going to present challenges for you in nutritional uptake because you are losing a significant amount of nutritional absorption surface area. You will need to focus on consuming foods that are nutritionally dense and also probably look at some good supplements. If indeed you are having issues with gluten you will need to educate yourself as to how gluten is hidden in the food supply. There's more to it than just avoiding the major sources of gluten like bread and pasta. It is hidden in so many things you would never expect to find it in like canned tomato soup and soy sauce just to name a few. It can be in pills and medications.  Also, your "yellow diarrhea, constipation and bloating" though these are classic signs of a gluten disorder, could also be related to the post surgical shorter length of your small bowel causing incomplete processing/digestion of food.
    • Ello
Yes this information helps. I will continue to be pro active with this issues I am having. More testing to be done. Thank you so much for your response.
    • trents
There are two gluten-related disorders that share many of the same symptoms but differ in nature from each other. One is known as celiac disease or "gluten intolerance". By nature, it is an autoimmune disorder, meaning the ingestion of gluten triggers the body to attack it's own tissues, specifically the lining of the small bowel. This attack causes inflammation and produces antibodies that can be detected in the blood by specific tests like the TTG-IGA test you had. Over time, if gluten is not withheld, this inflammation can cause severe damage to the lining of the small bowel and even result in nutrient deficiency related health issues since the small bowel lining is organ where all the nutrition found in our food is absorbed.  The other is NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity or just "gluten sensitivity") which we know less about and are unsure of the exact mechanism of action. It is not an autoimmune disorder and unlike celiac disease it does not damage the lining of the small bowel, though, like celiac disease, it can cause GI distress and it can also do other kinds of damage to the body. It is thought to be more common than celiac disease. Currently, we cannot test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out to arrive at a diagnosis of NCGS. Both disorders require elimination of gluten from the diet.  Either of these disorders can find their onset at any stage of life. We know that celiac disease has a genetic component but the genes are inactive until awakened by some stress event. About 40% of the general population has the genetic potential to develop celiac disease but only about 1% develop active celiac disease. The incidence of NCGS is thought to be considerably higher. I hope this helps.
