on a serious note.............Sillies, I don't think my Effexor is working at all. :( wondering if I should switch.......but you know something? I loathe the idea of going to dr. to ask for something else, admitting defeat, thereby admitting that the gluten-free diet is NOT the complete cure for depression, as I have declared it is.....

but my thoughts and brain are so awful and dark, and I feel completely hollowed-out and dull beyond belief. :(

GAH!!! Jess has a scare-vatar!!!!

Hey!! Is this guy  a client??

Jack's next query is most interesting: He wants to know who the most interesting character is when you google your own name.

((Oops I overdid it!!))

LOL googling my entire full name (incl full middle name) comes up w/someone known for Cyborg Ontology!! (wth does that MEAN?????):huh:

Others are a Flight Instructor, a videographer, a Hawaiian real estate agent, and a Nova Scotian born in 1883!!!!

My plain old first&last name is just too common.

As a kid, a local (Chicago) popular Top40 AM radio DJ had my name, AND a pitcher for the California Angels, AND the mayor of Pittsburgh, AND the chairman of General Motors.

Whoa!!! My name has 22 separate wikipedia entries!!

Yikes!!! There's a Tony Award -winning actor, an Australian rules footballer, alleged IRA Army Council Chief of Staff, Irish playwright, Australian playwright, Former House Speaker in Georgia, Irish recipient of the Victoria Cross, American lawyer/prosecutor/federal judge, a Canadian politician, American archbishop, a U.S. Postmaster in New Hampshire whose alertness just might have saved the life of the new U.S. President-Elect, John F. Kennedy(!! :o), President University College Dublin, a mixed martial arts fighter, Civil War soldier and Medal of Honor recipient!!! (Oooooh he's my favoUrite!)

Methinks I should've stopped w/ Cyborg guy.

Tom, perhaps I can borrow a few of yours . . .

I googled my current name and the most famous Janet to pop up was . . . me . . . and all it had listed was that I was serving on the PTO general board. OK, another Janet popped up and she was an administrative assistant . . . Hmmmmm, kind of a toss up to say who's got a more exciting life.

I google my maiden name and the best I could come up with was a horse rancher.

I'm still in the I'll believe it when I see it camp, but they're claiming SJ will break records w/ 97 today & 100+ thu/fri, w/ weird wind patterns making the south bay the hotspot.

But . .. .at noon it's only 76.

*DO* they really know wth they're talking about?

I don't think I've seen 100 EVER in SJ & expected to not use AC all summer, but screw THAT if it's really 103!!!!

on a serious note.............Sillies, I don't think my Effexor is working at all. :(

Awww damn :(

wondering if I should switch.......but you know something? I loathe the idea of going to dr. to ask for something else, admitting defeat, thereby revealing to them that the gluten-free diet is NOT the complete cure for depression, as declared it was.....

1) If he/she treated you pre-gluten-free, they MUST know the tremendous help the diet's been. Hmmmm (or should I say duh) I suppose it's a different doc.

2) Isn't it possible for barley's gluten to have different effects than wheat?

I think I've seen others say so.

Then again, maybe questioning the effexor effectiveness predates the barley. :(

But you did say you haven't been as careful in general lately. Hmmmm

 Welsh spelling!!!!  that IS phuuuuuuuuuuny!!!!

yeah, suezee, what he said . . .

Um.......My first suspicion, and to suggest it may cause you to roll yer eyes as it's something you have perhaps often thought, is that the cigarettes themselves are a big (the main?) part of why you go days feeling crappy.

1) On the contrary, my dear, I welcome any comments from all y'all, whether I've had the thought before or not.

2) My current thinking/hope is that the response to perfumes & cleansers & other fumes/vapors could be reduced w/out smoking's additional 'toxic burden'.

Besides all the obvious health reasons, that ALONE makes quitting worthwhile.

You are constantly reacting to them, perhaps subclinically, as you react to so many other outside agents. If this is the case, won't you be waiting for-bleedin'-evah for a few good days to quit? Just thinking aloud.....

Welllllllll .. . .today feels like I'm back on the upswing, but more telling is that last year, once off soy, I had THE best, most FAN-*******-TASTIC days of my life from June until Oct/Nov. :) :)

<once past 2 months, I really really thought it would last> :(

Of course, I was smoking during all that.

I was having enough "good" days pre-quitting and for the 1st couple days off cigs.

Thx tho  - it's food for thought and add'l motivation that maybe there is a heretofore unconsidered mental effect from the 'toxic burden'.

DingoGirl Enthusiast

totally predates the barley.......it's been more of a constant state lately. I am just SUCH a different person than I used to be.....of course, my mom likes to point out that it's such a relief to NOT have Manic Susie ......but - - I wouldn't mind just a teensy bit of mania? I got SO much done.

I have a good life, a wonderful boyfriend, good friends, comfy home, and without doubt the best dog in the world......but - but - but - - I have no energy, no goals........I am just drifting along and don't know what to do wtih myself. I seriously feel that all of the breakdowns in the past have left me stripped and empty....esp. the Siege of Terror in 2004 - I have never been teh same since then......not even remotely. I recovered quite a bit after gluten removal.....but feel something isn't right presently. I can do better than this. :( <or can I? is this how it will always be? >

Presently, if I had a job, I'd be fired, no question about it. I am as dull as mud - in my brain. Oh yes, I can write phunny things......and those close to me tell me that in my dullest state I'm still far more interesting than most.....

I always gauge the condition of depression as this -- when situations/circumstances are the same as they were xx amount of weeks/months/ days ago and one finds oneself in an inexplicably deep pit for too long a time - one must examine what is going on.

okay - I know I'm not supposed to apologize but - sorry for the sad rant on silly thread.....carry on.

I think you're quite right, Susie, to consider another antidepressant. You have nothing to lose, and so incredibly much to gain. There are so many different ones out there, and it can be one that becomes that vital missing puzzle piece...(((HUGS)))))

Why do I think 'Brokeback mountain' when I look at your avatar???

As a teen, I tried ironing it, rolling it on soup cans at night and slathering it with Dippity Do (an early hair gel--very goopy) and wrapping around my head overnight. I have to say it's been nice having straight hair for the last couple of years--I always wanted it and got it. Now, I think I can move on

Patti's got closure!

Pretty soon this silly is hiding under her desk....I got 3 new patients today in an hour!!!! And there are 2 waiting to be registered to my studies. My desk is piled with charts....I dont know where to start either....

Landen is spending the night tonight since Jen got called into work.

Amanda!!!!

Come out!!!

Tell the patients to take a seat....you MUST tend to your sillies......toot sweet!!!! ;)

Talking of spittle I put hubby's name forward (he has no choice) in a study into the genetics of celiac disease being done at a London teaching hospital.

He's just had to fill a pot with spit  .......harder than you think

Googled my name....I am a professional cyclist in the Bay area

The subject of googling my name came up once before. If you just use my first and last names, you will find lots of hits, most of them relating to a professor of Scandinavian history, who has written books on the subject.

There a very few hits on my full name as an exact match, and all of them are versions of my brother's biography (which lists his family).

:( Why thank you, Em. but it IS - or WAS - possible. My personality stripped of mania still remains interesting, I suppose........but not in any way like it was........ it's something I ponder regularly....these elements of personality that make us who we are. Is a person driven to paint/play the piano/write until 4 or 5 in the morning - who goes days without sleeping - normal? Not really......but I've lost the impetus to paint at all. So NOW maybe I'm normal? I'm soooooooooo bored with myself. Eveyrthing that's interesting about me seems to come from my past and things I used to do.

Hi all! I hope everyone's been well. The wedding went off without a hitch! I REALLY enjoyed it -- not that I was expecting not to but I just enjoyed myself so much more than I had expected. I know this sounds kind of airy fairy or something but I just felt warm and fuzzy and peaceful the whole time. The whole day just went too fast though. We're going to do a delayed honeymoon sometime in the summer but we're not sure where yet. Also, I'm now embarrassed by the amount of money I've given other people for their weddings. I didn't realize how high going rate was for wedding gifts. I almost passed out when we opened the card from Ryan's godparents and the cheque was for $600. :o Our friends and family were extremely generous. I feel we must send gold plated Thank-you cards!

I quickly perused through the many pages I've missed and it looks like I've missed some kind of sillyville census. So . . . I'm a righty with straight hair and I do like math. Spelling on the other hand has always been my nemesis.

Happy belated mothers day to all the mothers of Sillyville. And if I'm not back before the weekend, happy May 2-4 to my fellow Canadian sillies. Since we're all diabetic I guess none of us will be drinking a 2-4. Either of you doing fireworks?

happygirl Collaborator

With that proclamation Peter, I feel very honoUred. ;)

I don't feel very silly lately----a new med, and I'm wiped out.

Congratulations, Alex!!!!!

I don't see how cornstarch could alter the test results. Where did you read that?

For pain relief I take a combination of Thiamine (Benfotiamine), Pyridoxine B 6, and Cobalamine B12.  The combination of these three vitamins has analgesic effects.  I have back pain and this really works.  The B vitamins are water soluble and easily excreted.   Hope this helps!  Keep us posted on your results!

Welcome to the forum, @Xravith. I experienced similar symptoms before my diagnosis.  Mine were due to the loss of vitamins and minerals, essential nutrients we must get from our food.  With Celiac Disease, the intestinal lining, made up of thousands of villi, gets damaged and cannot absorb essential vitamins and minerals, especially the eight B vitamins.  The loss of Thiamine B 1 can cause muscle loss, inability to gain weight, edema (swelling), fatigue, migraines and palpitations.  Low thiamine can cause Gastrointestinal Beriberi with symptoms of nausea, abdominal pain and bloating.   Thiamine is only stored for a couple of weeks, so if you don't absorb enough from food daily, as the thiamine deficiency worsens physical symptoms gradually worsen.  If you're eating lots of carbs (like gluten containing foods usually do), you need more thiamine to process them (called high calorie malnutrition).  Thiamine works with all the other B vitamins, so if you're low in one, you're probably getting low in the others, too, and minerals like iron, magnesium, zinc, and calcium, as well as Vitamin D..  Talk to your doctor about checking for nutritional deficiencies.  Most doctors rarely recognize vitamin deficiency symptoms, especially in thiamine. Get a DNA test to see if you carry any Celiac genes.  If you do not have genetic markers for Celiac, it's probably IBS.  If you do have genetic markers for Celiac, it's probably Celiac.  I was misdiagnosed with IBS for years before my Celiac diagnosis.   Keep us posted on your progress. P. S. Deficiency in thiamine can cause false negatives on antibody tests, as can diabetes and anemia.

No she didn't because if I want to ask I have to pay 700$ for 1 hour appointment so I couldn't even ask. I read that fillers like cornstash can alter the result and tylenol contains it so that's why I tried to find someone who can answer.
    • trents
Did the GI doc give you any rational for stopping the Tylenol during the gluten challenge? I have never heard of this before and I can't imagine a good reason for it. Ibuprofen, maybe, because it is an anti inflammatory but acetaminophen?  I don't see that it would have any impact on the test results to take Tylenol.
