What a sweetheart

How lucky IS this girl to find such a guy right in Phrezno??

How'd he ever get to Phrez w/ the rest of the family throughout the Bay Area?

I know, 'tis a shocker, I'm not kidding you. Dating pool here for middle-aged women is quite scary........but to answer your question, he came here at least a decade ago for........wife number one.

I like these cats, too:

:( oh crap .. . ..I'm still somewhat in shock but I just got the news that a buddy of mine died this morning.

Ken was the trombone player in that great cover band I was in in the 90s.

Such a selfless altruistic guy. When one of the female singers had trouble cutting her grass he loaded his lawnmower in the pickup & drove 20+ miles to her house to mow it w/out telling her he was going to.

Wasn't making a play btw - he was happily married w/ 6 kids, and was ~25yrs older than her.

He even drove me to the airport last time I went in Dec.

Had a stroke on Saturday & just too much failed today. :(

New av has him at top left.

:(

By popular demand, I have a new avatar. For those who missed the original post, this is Caramel asleep with her head on the keyboard. This developed while I was doing something other than reading this board (although that IS what is on the monitor), and lasted almost an hour early this afternoon.

Bev, that really is a downer about the tick. I do hope that the abx you already have in your system head it off at the pass.

Patti, you may lend your son your portable computer, but I am convinced that you will be drawn into the vortex just as much as before.

For those of you who, like us, watch CSI, tonight's season finale ended with a complete surprise. OMG!

Well, I survived one more cub scout function . . . have another tomorrow . . . I need a break!!

Tom, terribly sorry to hear about your friend.

Bev, yes you must get your boob rash looked at immediately. I will say, I couldn't believe the number of ticks we ran across during our brief trip. I shall warn my friend K. to be sure and check her boobage area on a regular basis. Good Luck at the Doc's.

LeeSa - yes, we change everybody's names.

[Posting what was written before hearing of Ken]

I just had to tell my boss that I might not be able to do my lab work very effectively because of the pain in my wrists (it didn't all go away with the new Edna). horrifying and depressing to have to say such a thing.

Ah damn, Jess - I can imagine that to be quite disheartening. :(

You have no idea!! You finally revealed the key to the mystery for me  This is a real lightbulb moment for me :P I had no idea who or what Phta..u..g..h..m was or how to pronounce it

ROFL

:( That's disappointing. Tastes great, it's 5%, and it's cheap....

Should have known - - too good to be true!

Yeah I liked Sapporo. I remember it being somewhat crisp, w/ a lightly bitter (for a lager) sharpness rounding off at the tail. (Oy I'm not sure there's much actual sense in that)

........wife number one.

Interesting choice of words??

Ptaum - - so sorry about your friend. :( He sounds like he was quite a guy. What a shocker......you must raise a glass o' the phaerie to him.

(Leeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-suh, in case you don't know, The Phaerie is the absinthe of which some of us are so fond....it is mentioned phrequently on here  )

Interesting choice of words??

;) Yup.......I'll be the second......and last. :)

Elye,

My puppy is a 3 yo Chow Chow named Kira. She's more like a big clumsy bulldozer though. I think she thinks she's a cat and doesn't know she weight over 50 lbs.

She runs around the yard at full speed 'zooming' with the wind in her face. Try to get her to take a walk or chase a ball though, and she looks at you with this "forget it" look on her face.

She's one of the best and smartest doge I think I've ever had.

I hope that meets the requirements of a new puppy story :)

And now:

There has been sufficient misery on this thread. I'm invoking any residual powers I had has past (or maybe not ) queen.

Everyone's situations must hereby improve.

I had a glass of wine for as dinner (shhhhh  ) and will deal with tomorrow when it gets here.

I spent about an hour on the cute overload site and am sufficiently cheered to go to bed.

All are commanded to snuggle with whatever suits them and wake up better able to face the day.

SILLIES!

almost 3 a.m. here and I have some serious insomnia.

But, more important.........I have just been through the WORST food porn torture of my gluten-free life.

Have just watched a show on PBS about famous sandwiches in the US..........Philly cheesesteak, roast beef (French dip - I could DIE for one, thin-sliced beef on a soft roll, dipped in au jus :( ), various beef sandwiches, chipped ham (kind of gross but I'd eat it on that soft bun), lobster rolls in New England, sandwiches w/ fried clams, some sort of hot sandwich in Kentucky w/ a roux, on and on and on.........I just can't recall a worse kind of torture than this..................

Morning, All!

Ptaoughmn, I am really sorry to hear about your good friend. My thoughts are with you.

My puppy is a 3 yo Chow Chow named Kira. She's more like a big clumsy bulldozer though. I think she thinks she's a cat and doesn't know she weight over 50 lbs.

A chow! Ryan, that makes two chows on this expansive thread - - there's your chow pup, and Mr. Chow. Jeez, we've had some confusing moments through the last few hundred pages over the odd double name....how will we handle the two Chows? Oh....your chow has a black tongue, doesn't she? I haven't had many conversations with Mr. Chow, but I'm fairly certain his tongue is pink. So we can differenciate that way....

:huh::lol:

Bev, only you would live with pervert ticks :P

Yes, only our Bev...! :rolleyes::lol:

Hope you finally got back to sleep, Susie. I don't see you reading along, so this is a good sign....

almost 3 a.m. here and I have some serious insomnia.

Susie....insomnia is never fun and you do find the strangest shows on at that hour...I once watched this PBS show called Frontier House, actually quite interesting. One day I hope to come across it on DVD.

Morning Sillies....tis a very wet and dreary and down pouring Friday! I already feel like an arse and I have been here all of 15 minutes. I have this guy friend who we tease each other, he works for the Mait. staff here. On the way in I thought he was in front of me and I made some rude-joking comments about him walking slow....and the guy turned around and he was not my friend......I felt 2 inches tall!

Phataughm, I'm so very sorry...

Well, he leaves in about a half hour, so I ducked in here before my lifeline...er, I mean computer goes away. Gawd. I agree, too much misery and general pain-in-the-neck-ness lately....Jess, get out that whip and make it all go away!!

Ugh--dark, rainy day today.....should be better over the weekend. Will be painting aforementioned son's room whilst he's away...easier that way. It's currently off white with white trim--a big white box. He likes it--it drives me nuts

Be back later.....

It seems very quiet here this morning.

Tom, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. There are too many sad things around here lately.

'Tis the Friday of the long weekend here, so it will likely be quiet at the store in the later part of the day. We're taking tomorrow off, but the weather isn't going to be great. Cool with showers for the next two days. Monday will be cool as well, but mainly sunny.

Yes, Amanda, and I'm doing some important banking today, so I can't give it back to you. But this is a holiday weekend, so you can have it for the next three days as I won't be working. A good system we have, isn't it?:lol:

 OMG - OMG - is that - is that dog actually cuter than Annie? :o That little video gave me chills of joy...............but - if Weezee and I tried that - two things: one, I"m a better dancer than that lady, fo' sho', and two - - Weezee does two things when I dance - falls to the floor requesting love (see avatar), or just jumps up w/ two front paws (the only time she jumps) to hold hands.......

I hear ya, Patti - - drives me nuts when I spend a day away from Sillyville..."What's going on there right now? What are they talking about? Could it be grammar?!"

I know, those clips of dancing canines are terrific and so uplifting. Just seeing the focused, intense look on the dogs' faces makes it so evident how much they love doing it, and how much fun they're having. I can't seem to think of a time when I have a look akin to that on my face...

Think that dominatrix of Jess's may have had an expression like that....

Incidentally, I don't like quinoa either. Reminds me and smells to me like wet grass seed. When its not washed before cooking it makes me ill because of saponins in the seed coat. Yes, it can be difficult to get much dietary calcium without dairy. But in many cases, it's not the amount of calcium in the diet that is the problem but the poor uptake of it. And too much calcium supplementation can interfere with the absorption of vitamins and minerals in general because it raises gut pH.

What you’re describing really does not read like typical IBS-D. The dramatic, rapid normalization of stool frequency and form after removing wheat, along with improved tolerance of legumes and plant foods, is a classic pattern seen in gluten-driven disease rather than functional IBS. IBS usually worsens with fiber and beans, not improves. The fact that you carry HLA-DQ2.2 means celiac disease is absolutely possible, even if it’s less common than DQ2.5, and many people with DQ2.2 present later and are under-diagnosed. Your hesitation to reintroduce gluten is completely understandable — quality of life matters — and many people in your position choose to remain strictly gluten-free and treat it as medically necessary even without formal biopsy confirmation. If and when you’re ready, a physician can help you weigh options like limited gluten challenge, serology history, or documentation as “probable celiac.” What’s clear is that this wasn’t just random IBS — you identified the trigger, and your body has been very consistent in its response.

oh that's interesting... it's hard to say for sure but it has *seemed* like oats might be causing me some vague issues in the past few months. It's odd that I never really connect specific symptoms to foods, it's more of an all over feeling of unwellness after  eating them.  If it happens a few times after eating the same foods- I cut back or avoid them. for this reason I avoid dairy and eggs.  So far this has worked well for me.  oh, I have some of Bob's Red Mill Mighty Tasty Hot cereal and I love it! it's hard to find but I will be looking for more.  for the next few weeks I'm going to be concentrating on whole fresh fruits and veggies and beans and nuts and seeds. I'll have to find out if grains are truly necessary in our diet. I buy brown rice pasta but only eat that maybe once a month at most. Never liked quinoa. And all the other exotic sounding grains seem to be time consuming to prepare. Something to look at later. I love beans and to me they provide the heft and calories that make me feel full for a lot longer than a big bowl of broccoli or other veggies. I can't even tolerate the plant milks right now.  I have reached out to the endo for guidance regarding calcium intake - she wants me to consume 1000mgs from food daily and I'm not able to get to more than 600mgs right now.  not supposed to use a supplement until after my next round of testing for hyperparathyroidism.   thanks again- you seem to know quite a bit about celiac.
    • trents
Welcome to the celiac.com community, @SilkieFairy! You could also have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) as opposed to celiac disease. They share many of the same symptoms, especially the GI ones. There is no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out.
