Oh, Jess....I am so sorry about your little guy.... :(:(:(

I am thinking about you!

Patti! Heinous basement floods...had one on September 9, 2004 - - the remnants of Hurricane Jeanne. We had almost two feet of water in our basement, and we're in a bungalow, so we have a BIG living space down there, including our children's bedrooms. We had a $40,000 insurance claim. It was horrid. The kids lost so much stuff...pictures, schoolwork, all their toys, books, clothes... yuck. I feel for you!

Did you at least get the same lovely plumber out again? The one with the memorabe ballcock?

Oh Jess (((((((((HUGS))))))))))- I am so sorry :( :( . Them coyotes can be bad boys. Was he one of two babies? Wish we could all gather around you now and cheer you up!

Um.........Boev........WHAT clandestine word?

The word "clandestine".

Ahhh, today was such a GOOD DAY!!! :D I'm gonna bore you guys with details, because I'm in a good mood. ;)

Good news is NEVER boring!

I do believe Opeter Opatti'd us. ( . . . and in case you have a short attention span, once again, as in opossum)

Well that's just O'poopy!!!!!!!!!!

Guys, there must be a huge post count comin up or sumphin because our basement flooded today.

:o UGH!!!

Lucky it wasn't worse??

As far as post count significance, I'm not seeing it - and I LOOKED!!!!

The closest I could come is that you're only 248 posts from exactly 2x your member number. :soundsbelievableface:

Did you know your member # is your join date backwards? (29-9-5)

Hmmm what's the delta in PA vs NJ in an "Nth state admitted" sense?

Or what would be 2x the sum of your kids' & pets' ages ... . ..

Something ate my beautiful gray kitty. My neighbor helped me track the fur trail through the woods but we didn't find the end.

Oh, Jess! I'm so sorry about your kitty!!! :(

 *sniff* :( This is just so.........so..............southern and neighborly and.........so NON-stepford. I could cry........just so incredibly charming and lovely and civilized and warm.......NOTHING like that goes on here, or much of California, I'm afraid......people just are NOT like that here.... 'tis heinous....I WANT TO GO TO SARAH"S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Better yet, I want to be Psarah's pneighbor!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

There's 2 3-acre lots for sale right next to us--- you should come snap it up right now!!! :D I'm constantly trying to get friends to come buy this land, because I have no money to do so myself!!!

This really is a nice area to live in. Beautiful views, nice weather, and I know/have met every single neighbor within reasonable distance. We like it a lot.

Hey! Let's all pitch in and buy one of those big lots and put up a Silly Chalet for our Silly Summits that we can begin planning! We'll have to try to keep it down through the night, as we don't want to wake up the kids next door.....

Sillies....tis not an easy evening in our home. Landen was in terrible gas pain (or that is what I am thinking it was) he was crying in pain uncontrollably for 2 hrs before I calmed him down. It is a toss up between teeth or the gas pain but I believe it is the gas pain, he would arch his back and let some loose and that made him cry louder. In the end he let out a few big ones and soon he was sobbing and then I rubbed his tummy and he fell asleep. I had sent John on his way to CVS to get those infant gas drops....Landen was sleeping when John got back, which was just as fine.

I actually did not have a melt down when I couldnt soothe him, I tried different things and now I am not as scared as I was the one night it happened and Jen had to come home for him. I actually feel like I can be a mother now....it was an eventful evening. Just had to share....carry on sillies!

elye Community Regular

Good holiday morning, Sillies!

Amanda, good job with Landen! A true mom in the making...actually, better than a mom - - I would've probably lost it (I certainly remember doing so with my babies) and you kept your cool! Going to see Prince Caspian this afternoon, as it is rainy and horrid outside, the first unsunny day in a couple of weeks.

Elsie was quite weird when I took her out this morning...like she'd never been in the rain before - - looking up, biting at it, kind of cowering around...more and more clues are are being presented to us the longer we have this dog. She was probably never taken out to relieve herself in the rain....just didn't want to accompany her and get one's hair and clothes wet. HEINOUS.

Morning Sillies...well once Landen went to bed he was done for the night. Which was just as well since I think he tired himself out while he was screaming at me. Today he was smiling again, just dropped him off downstairs with his mom.

So another work week upon us but guess what happens this Friday.....3-day weekend....Memorial Day has arrived.

I am not sure about all my other sillies, but it is May and it is still in the 40's in the morning, time for a warm up!

Oh damn, today's funeral day. :(

Thanks for the thoughts everyone. I needed to say that to make it real so I could start dealing. Yesterday was pretty rough, but today I have work to distract me

Ptaoughmhn! This will be a sad, taxing thing for you. It's very good that you are going to this. Funerals are tough, sometimes agonizing...I've been to many. But, for some reason, I've always felt....what....perhaps a little bit better....at the end of the day, once I had been with others weak with grief. There is, indeed, power and strength in numbers. I'm thinking about you.... :)

Oh, and Jess! More tragedy.....I completely understand now, after thinking about it, how you needed to factually state what had happened. Come on here now and then for distraction , too...I think we're quite distracting....!:)

Yeah, what she said . . . (I couldn't have said it better, Emily) . . . good thoughts for you both.

. . . and if you want something to distract you . . . everyone can come over here and help spread 12 cubic yards of mulch. It arrives tomorrow morning. I shall expect you all sometime after 10. Bring your own rakes, gloves, and wheelbarrows, etc. I shall provide refreshments and a dog that will jump on you and run through the mulch you just finished spreading.

Sounds like a perfect job for the yeti. But wasn't he last seen in Orlando? It's a good hike from there to Janet's. Perhaps we could get him on a flight north, and Janet could pick him up at the airport.

A fine idea, King Peter! Get the yeti on that...or better yet, Janet, since you are a den helper/person for your Cub Pack, have them all over for a Gettin' Close to Nature Jamboree. Tell them that, as they always need to Be Prepared, they should have the needed tools with them and ready - - shovels, wheelbarrows, etc. I'm sure there's a Gardener's Badge they could be acquiring for this....

Oh too many sad Sillies- *sigh*. Jess- I am so much like you....for some reason, I need to "hear" and state the facts because to me it seems so surreal. My best friend died in a car accident when I was 29 and I couldn't cry until I knew the details. I get factual and then emotional. (((((((A BIG HUG FOR YOU!))))))))) I know I would be devastated if Ii lost one of my kitties (especially the male).

Oh damn, today's funeral day. :(

Ugh.....yes- what Emily said   I have been to way too many (I think all of us have) but it is nice (not the right word) to be with others who share your loss and grief. ((((((BIG HUGS)))))) for you too.

And landen with an Ow-ey tummy :( :(

Where do I send the check? Who do I write it to? :D :D :D

We can distract you too- don't make me come over there and TICKLE YOU!!!!!!!!!!

We could send the yeti but he's warm and fuzzy and can be quite gentle so maybe he can travel and console our Sillies and then lay Janet's mulch

Looking at new friends. I don't deal well with empty spaces. I think Jimmy and Clarisse probably need to be a pair, and Leo looks like a demon in a cute suit.

Weezee and I are jumping on the plane. Shall I just check my wheelbarrow through, or could that be a carry-on? :D

this is perfect. Can I have him while I'm premenstrual? 'cause this month's cycle's a b!tch, I tell you.

And then, could he help me shampoo my carpets?

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!! LEO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! demon in a cute suit.  GO GET HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sillies I am a fat, gutter-wigged, slovenly, pre-menstrual bloated hag. Lovely.

Ptaum - the funeral........are you going? I have to say, I really like funerals. I know, weird.......but - - people are suddenly in touch w/ their mortality, and usually are tender-hearted in their moments of reflection........happy to see old friends/loved ones, and bearing no artifice or pretense (usually). a lovely time to reflect and share................

Em - I was worried when you said you'd be watching Lars w/ Sophie. (sofie? I forgot the spelling) Um........probably a bit too esoteric and quirky for a kid.:lol:

I want them ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have 2 tabbies- both are deliciously devilish in different ways. I have to vote for Leo, but I would probably take the oldest cause they have a harder time getting adopted.

The yeti will console Jess, go South to Tom and Susie and then be at janet's tomorrow at 10 am (for a big foot, he's pretty fast!) (But he doesn't like being called a Big Foot- says he PURE YETI!!!!)

Yeah....right  I'm sure you are your georgeous self--even during the dreaded PMS B)

Phataughm--I'm thinking about you today, too. I feel like the others who said that it somehow helps to be among the loved ones...a sad day today for you, I know. :(

Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free.  I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree with me -  I just keep trying and have finally settled on Sports Research. I take NAKA Women's Multi full spectrum, and have not felt sick after taking 2 capsules per day -  it is a Canadian company. I buy both from Amazon. I wish you well in your searching, I know how discouraging it all is. Florence.

highly unlikely  NOTHING and I mean NOTHING else has ever caused me these kinds of symptoms I have no problem with dates, they are a large part of my diet In fact, I eat a very high fiber, very high vegetable and bean diet and have for many years now. It's considered a whole foods plant based or plant forward diet (I do now eat some lean ground turkey but not much) I was off dairy for years but recently had to add back plain yogurt to meet calcium needs that I am not allowed to get from supplements (I have not had any problem with the yogurt)   I eat almost no processed foods. I don't eat out. almost everything I eat, I cook myself I am going to keep a food diary but to be honest, I already know that it's wheat products and also barley that are the problem, which is why I gradually stopped eating and buying them. When I was eating them, like back in early 2024, when I was in the middle of moving and ate out (always had bread or toast or rolls or a sub or pizza) I felt terrible but at that time was so busy and exhausted that I never stopped to think it was the food. Once I was in my new place, I continued to have bread from time to time and had such horrible joint pain that I was preparing for 2 total knee replacements as well as one hip! The surgery could not go forward as I was (and still am) actively losing calcium from my bones. That problem has yet to be properly diagnosed and treated   anyway over time I realized that I felt better when I stopped eating bread. Back at least 3 yrs ago I noticed that regular pasta made me sick so I switched to brown rice pasta and even though it costs a lot more, I really like it.   so gradually I just stopped buying and eating foods with gluten. I stopped getting raisin bran when I was constipated because it made me bloated and it didn't help the constipation any more (used to be a sure bet that it would in the past)   I made cookies and brownies using beans and rolled oats and dates and tahini and I LOVE them and have zero issues eating those I eat 1 or more cans of beans per day easily can eat a pound of broccoli - no problem! Brussels sprouts the same thing.   so yeh it's bread and related foods that are clearly the problem  there is zero doubt in my mind

Thank you for your post, @nanny marley It is interesting what you say about 'It's OK not to sleep'. Worrying about sleeping only makes it much harder to sleep.  One of my relatives is an insomniac and I am sure that is part of the problem.  Whereas I once had a neighbour who, if she couldn't sleep, would simply get up again, make a cup of tea, read, do a sudoku or some other small task, and then go back to bed when she felt sleepy again.  I can't think it did her any harm - she lived  well into her nineties. Last week I decided to try a Floradix Magnesium supplement which seems to be helping me to sleep better.  It is a liquid magnesium supplement, so easy to take.  It is gluten free (unlike the Floradix iron supplement).  Might be worth a try.

It could be a fructan intolerance? How do you do with dates?  https://www.dietvsdisease.org/sorry-your-gluten-sensitivity-is-actually-a-fructan-intolerance/

Thank’s for addressing the issue of mushrooms.  I was under the impression that only wild mushrooms were gluten-free.  Have been avoiding cultivated mushrooms for years. Also, the issue of smoked food was informative.  In France last year, where there is hardly any prepared take-out food that is gluten-free, I tried smoked chicken.  Major mistake!
