I do indeed, and I remember his death (assuming he is, in fact, really dead). We keep hearing reports that he was abducted by aliens, and is now working the midnight shift at a 7-11 somewhere in the Pacific Northwest. I hear that Osama bin Laden may work the day shift there.

Hi Sillies....twas my 1st day of jury duty, it is strange not sure I like it...although I was out @ 11 for the day! I have to return tomorrow morning at 8....yuck! Met some nice people there Came home and napped with my lion cat all afternoon....it is much too hot to be outside.

Today is John's birthday so we did some special things too.

It was a momentous day for me - - August 16, 1977......My mom and I went shopping together for my first bra. I was wearing it, amazed at how uncomfortable it felt and how everyone would be staring, when the news flashed on the TV screen. So funny how things become paired in our consciousness..... ..

Well, I was 5 in 1977. But I do remember the day, I think we had just gotten home from school (the big K for me )......or maybe that was when Ronald Regan was shot Anywhoo, my older brother LOVED Elvis and when we heard the news he just started crying. I don't think I understood the concept of death at the time, but I always associate the day Elvis died and my brother being upset and sad and crying.

Gawd, ya'll are making me feel old with the talk of where we were when Elvis died. I was already married 2 years, and that day I had just gotten off work. Mark picked me up and told me the news. We still lived in our hometown of Syracuse, and Elvis was scheduled to do a concert there the next month. I believe, if I remember correctly, that would have been his first performance there.

The heat broke here last night, and temperatures are in the twenties today instead of the thirties. We had nasty thunderstorms and lots of rain as the front moved through.

My daughter played a piece called "Indian Rain Dance" for her piano recital about a week ago. It rained that night . . . she thinks she caused it. So yesterday, the piano tuner was here and she played it for her also . . . thus making it rain . . . again.

When the Challenger blew up I was in my 8th grade social studies class. Every classroom had a tv rolled in from the AV department to watch the launch live. It took off and then there was that big boom in the sky. I think for most of us it was the first time seeing anything like this so we were all looking around at each other like, "was that suppose to happen?", not really sure what was going on. Our teacher was kind of flustered and turned it off really fast, and said something like, "ok boys and girls......". Then she ran out of the room and gathered in the ahll with the other teachers that had ran out of their rooms.

Well my kids (i.e. Ezra) played the Let's Destroy The House game again this morning! And I thought I could safely sleep in a little this summer. SIGH. Lucas got in trouble too, because he didn't come tell me. When it comes to his brother, I fully encourage Lucas to tattle. It's saved Ezra's life, more than once! (For real)

Luke has had a little bit of a summer cold, and was running quite the fever last night, but thankfully, is doing much better today.

Since I've been out of touch for a few weeks... Janet, Nikki- what are your kids doing this summer? I wanted to get my guys into a swimming class, but I'm short on funds.

I'm going to take them the lake a lot, and the library has a Wednesday program, where they have animal experts and scientists come in and do little talks for kids. We also have SciWorks in Winston Salem, which is an interactive museum for kids. We'll go there a few times, it's a lot of fun.

I'm thinking about letting them camp out in the back yard. I dunno, I'd probably want to sleep out there with them, since they're still little. Can my back still handle sleeping on the ground?! I have no idea.

I'm trying to come up with plenty of ideas to keep them active, or they'll just hang out inside in the air conditioning. 100 degrees for days now! Blech. I wish we had a swimming pool!!!

Patti, how is the water problem??

This latest was actually a lack of water...specifically hot water. The oil company we're contracted with guarantees that we never run out of heating oil....we ran out Sunday evening

They did send a tech out with 10 gallons--and it turned out that the sensor on the heating unit was not working, so he replaced that while he was here. He didn't finish till 11PM! They came back yesterday and filled the tank.

Never a dull moment 'round here!
