just what is this SWING contraption? will have to know before advising whether yer shed-yool is too ambishus.

As I recall, this is a swinging chaise thingie in Jess's yard.....I believe at one time there were men draped all over it......

Poor Ptaum.....I'm thinking this is a SERIOUS dearth of silly as.....we really haven't heard from him, have we?

Yes, been thinking about him....... . . . . :( Don't think his expensive cordials are working any magic.... .. . . . .

They even spread to coffee-houses, which were sometimes known as divans or Turkish divans, and a cigar divan remains a familiar expression

....And from where did our Nikerler just return? It's poifect.........

Judy!! Flowing Fecal Matter.....this is the last remnant of your 3,000 flipover.

It is also our latest garage band name.

OMG!!!! I've GOT to get a Turkish cigar divan....how decadent!!!!

 I thought a divan was a couch? sofa? davenport? [now THAT word cracks me up - must look up etymological origins]

NICOLA!!!!!!!!!!! "superbotox me???" what in hell? sounds PHANTASTICALLY trashy! Is it before-and-after plastic surgeries?????? perhaps my all-time favorite genre of trash TV

and speaking of trash, I am watching episode six of MadMen - - OMG. I just want to DRINK SCOTCH and SMOKE whilst watching. I don't have any scotch......but, is it gluten-free? Scotch okay to drink? I hate the stuff.......hurts while going down, I think.......

I DO have some cloves, however. ;)

and yes, Nik, quite gutted meself over my lack of channels. Alas, I told the installer, after he'd worked all day to get this fixed - "I do see God's hand in this - he really knows how dangerous this would be for me." I DO have other options for cable........but am holding off........

ok guys........ever sillies nightmare........

Gawd Judith.....just knowing this would make me HAVE to go to the bathroom  I have a fear (as I'm sure we all do) of being without one--for years, I scope out the can no matter where I am and once I know, I'm much calmer

Yep--painted 2 chairs, a loveseat , end table and coffee table. All white wicker that is now navy blue--looks like a whole new set! It took 11 cans of paint--just phinished about a half hour ago. Whew!! It is much more humid today--I was thinking about you out all day in the park.

Poor Ptaum.....I'm thinking this is a SERIOUS dearth of silly as.....we really haven't heard from him, have we?

I'm getting concerned 'bout Pataghumn :(

uh, I just knew that Nik is far too elegant to be plopped on the couch :P

Yes, our Nik is definately a step above couch plopping :D

As I recall, this is a swinging chaise thingie in Jess's yard.....I believe at one time there were men draped all over it......

And as I remember, it was very clean......

I DO have other options for cable........but am holding off........

How 'bout satellite? We had this in Jersey--nice variety of channels but it went out easily with a good rain <_<

Patti! Painting again?! Wow, 11 cans of paint? I believe it, that wicker just soaks paint up like crazy.

Happy belated gluten-free anniversary to Laura! You look healthy and fabulous, a wonderful example of living gluten-free :D

Happy belated Birthday wishes to yer mom Susie Q, how are you pharing after the Cobb salad?

Amanda, how did your stuffed shells turn out?

I'm worried about Tom too, he hasn't checked in for a few pages or more :(

Oh, those sandal boot things that are all the rage in NY, and everywhere cuz I've seen them on a lot of celebrities, there are just a lot of really weird shoe styles out there lately. They freak me out!

JulieM ...boy your a fast reader......got your 'good books' alert.

I've been reading a couple a week lately. When you're reading something good, it's hard to put it down. I'll read and read until I finish

Did you get some bread baked? Sounds wonderful. And sweeping fall leaves already? It's hard to believe summer is almost gone :(

Oh . . . and this just in . . . it's kind of freaking me out . . . I don't know what to think . . . perhaps the world is going to end . . . my son asked for a fruit with his lunch . . . something's seriously wrong . . . what does it mean?? . . .

:o This is shocking!

Ok me sillies, I have a question for you all....how many of you have tried eating gluten-free oats and how did you do with them if you did try them??

The sky is quite freaky looking........tornadoes all around me at the moment..................hold me!!!!

OMG.......Sooooozie! You must tune in to Gene Simmons....I'm watching a marathon, of sorts......his show has been on since about six o'clock, and then another one comes on.....and another......and another.... .

I tuned in about an hour ago, and Gene has a dingo! Their family dog looks SO much like Annie.....or maybe Stinker......and I heard her howl....... . . very dingoish.

So, he's up in Whistler (B.C) right now......trying to make money in a snowboarding enterprise. Quite heelaryus.

What revolting hair......... . . .

I would love to try them--but I'm chicken! :D I remember back before I was gluten-free when I would eat oatmeal for breakfast, I'd have something close to D that day. It was Quaker, but I was eating gluten at the time, so I don't think it mattered.

I miss oatmeal and oatmeal chocolate chip cookies--I realize this isn't any help to you at all  , but I thought I'd share my thoughts on oats.

I may get my courage up sometime and try them--are you planning to give them a try?

Hope the tornados miss you out there! :o Hunker down and stay safe :D

My daughter has the OK to try them (the certified gluten-free ones) but we haven't . . . she never ate them before, why should she now? I have a great oatmeal cookie recipe that I'll probably try that my son likes and I haven't made in . . . hmmm . . . a year and a half.

Had fried chicken tonight . . . ate way too much and Edna is Pissed . . . I have started using a bit of Pamela's baking mix in my coating. Seems like I add Pamela's to everything I make these days. There must be some sort of addictive ingrediant so that I will keep buying and using . . . and I post about Pamela's all the time so now I guess I'm a pusher!! By the way, I'll be rich and famous soon. Just thought I would let you know. I entered a recipe contest on the PAMELA'S website. I could will win $200!! . . . which I can use to buy more Pamela's.

Thanks Patti for sharing your thoughts on the oats :)

I found some gluten-free oats, can't recall the brand (not Bobs Red Mill) at one of the health food stores here, $12 a bag, yikes! Oats are on my safe list so I decided I would give them a try. I seemed to do ok with them, didn't feel some of the same symptoms I would get when eating regular oats. So maybe they are ok for me?

Of course keep in mind I am gluten intolerant and I don't get "d", ever, so it's really hard for me to decipher if I am reacting to something gluten wise.

I miss oatmeal cookies too!! So it would be nice to be able to make them once in a while ;)

You are taking over for me pushing the Pamela's  I can't have it anymore because of the rice, that was a very sad day when I found that out.....good luck with the baking contest!!!!

Oh, and probably a good thing yer daughter doesn't care so much about having oats, they cost an arm and leg!

Gene Simmon's hair??? .....yes indeed like wire wool

Ooops, me poor travel tired brain was reading duvet instead of divan which (over 'ere) is me bed wiv drawers in the base..........what do you folks think they are???

MYGAWD!! - NO idea what's in the Turkish hookah but GADS!!...as an EX smoker, when I've had a few cocktails smoking anything sounds bloody GRAND

Today on this holiday I shall be mostly be doing more washing of clothes

Rather suprisingly when we got home we discovered that there had been evidence of actual cooking by our eldest son (who stayed home) :o

We had left loads of frozen meals AND some cash (thinking he'd fritter it away on KFC & the like) but NO :o

Organic, free range chicken breasts with a HOME made red pepper sauce had been MADE  ...and many more agreeable food choices :o

I am deeply shocked whilst proud of me boy  ....when I exclaimed my total awe at this he replied ''Well I did do catering at school you know Mum  ''

...but of course now he's happy for US to to all the donkey work.

AH...the oats debate

Here, Coeliac UK say more or less eat them if you can

....not really reassuring....there are many who do on the UK celiac disease forum with no problems...

However, you can only purchase 100% gluten-free oats online (that looked liked gluten-free GOAT  ) here for an extortionate amount :(

We never have 'cos of the cost AND don't even know if Tel & Al would react...HARUMPHFFFF!!!!!

I don't want pay out if a heinous poo crime occurs

Also - as Tel has probably never fully grown back all his villi (last biopsy still showed some villous atrophy still) I think it's just TOO dodgy for him :(

The lack of oats in the gluten-free diet I feel is the killer - you could do SO much more if they were freely allowed....bicuits cookies, flapjacks, crumble toppings, oatcakes ....etc

Alan often has 'fake' porridge in the mornings (millet flakes) ...but it ain't a patch on the real thing....and it kills me to think that the ACTUAL oats are gluten-free, - it's just how it's farmed that contaminates it

Ok, carry on peeps...gotta load me washing machine ....and must tackle the garden today which has become somewhat overgrown (I'll keep a keen eye out for Ptaum's psilly in the undergrowth)

G'mornin', Sillies!

Gah.....you've already had lunch by now, Nik......we're just cracking open the morning paper and settling in fer brekkies.....

Yes, speaking of breakfast and the oat question: I have bought and uneventfully consumed the "celiac safe" oats - - cannot remember the brand. Jack likes this in the morning, and it is SO expensive that I just let him eat it. We do the millet porridge substitute, as well........not bad, but it ain't my good ol' fashioned large flake rolled oats! :(

...Hmmm.....speaking of large flakes, must run my dad out to two appointments today. An xray and sumfin' else.......teeth? Ophthamologist? Ultrasound?....Must check.. .. ...It all blends into one big waiting room at this point in the game.......

Hi Jess-

How are you feeling?

Jestgar Rising Star

Tryin' the day with minimal drugs. I need to restart my methotrexate and I didn't want to do that while taking handfuls of ibuprofen (they don't play well together).

So had half a vicodin and one ibuprofen. I'll see how that works out. May entail even more lounging about than previously described (if that's possible :P ).

I went to over the counter Extra Strength Tylenol as soon as I got home because I hated the side effects of the Rx painkiller they gave me. It was either the pain or nausea and dopiness.....

Do get tons of rest, Jess. I found that healing takes quite a bit of energy on it's own. It's hard to stay still when you want to get back to some normal things, but taking it real easy now will get you there faster in the long run.

I know that pain right now is pretty darn (sorry Jan-it) uncomfortable :( I turned a big corner with it between 4-5 weeks and it's a good 3-4 months before it's really gone. It will get better, and life afterwards is so much easier ;)

Hang in there friend :D

I have many of those same CMP irregularities from time to time, with the exception that my potassium is always normal. What I can tell you is that it is normal for everything not to be normal when you get a CMP done. I used to get a CBC and CMP done annually and there were always some things out of spec. Docs don't get excited about it for the most part. It depends on the particular parameter (some are more important than others) and it depends on how far out of range it is. Docs also look for trends over time as opposed to isolated snapshots of this or that being out of spec at any given time. Our body chemistry is a dynamic entity.

Not sure what you mean by "soy being like gluten". Soy does not cause a celiac reaction. However, soy is one of the foods that many celiacs don't tolerate well for other reasons. Eggs, corn and dairy are also on that list of foods that many of those with celiac disease seem to be sensitive to. But that doesn't mean that all celiacs are sensitive to any one of them or all of them. It just means it's common. You may not have a problem with soy at all. Celiac disease is not a food allergy. It is an autoimmune response to the ingestion of gluten that creates inflammation in the small bowel lining that, over time, damages that lining.

Hey all  Has anyone on here experienced any of the following on their basic metabolic panel results ? This is what mine is currently flagging : - low sodium  - nearly too low potassium - nearly too low chloride - high CO2  - low anion gap  This is now after being nearly gluten-free for over a year (although I admit I make mistakes sometimes and pay dearly for it). My TtG went down to undetectable. I was so sensitive to so many foods I am now avoiding meat dairy and don’t eat a lot of cooked food in general (raw veggies, white rice, avocados and boiled eggs are my usual go-to meal that doesn’t make me sick). But my abdomen still hurts, i have a range of other symptoms too (headaches that last for days before letting up, fatigue, joint pain, bladder pain). Anyway im hoping my urologist (that’s now the latest specialist I’ve seen on account of the bladder pain and cloudy urine after eating certain foods) will help me with this since he ordered this metabolic panel. But I’m bouncing around a lot between specialists and still not sure what’s wrong. Also went back to the GI doctor and she thought maybe the celiac is just not healed or I have something else going on in the colon and I should have that looked at too. I’m still anemic too BTW. And I’m taking sooo may vitamins daily.

I know I haven't been tested but self diagnosed that by avoiding gluten the past 7 months I feel so much better. I have followed how to eat and avoid gluten and have been good about hidden gluten in products, how to prep gluten-free and flours to use to bake gluten-free and have been very successful. It has been a learning curve but once you get the hang of it and more aware you realize how many places are gluten-free and contamination free practices etc. One thing I have read is how soy is like gluten. How would one know if soy affects you? I have eaten gluten free hershey reeses that say gluten free etc some other snacks say gluten free but contain soy and I dont get sick or soy yogurt no issues. Is there adifference in soys?

Check your multivitamin to see if it contains Thiamine Mononitrate, which is a "shelf-stable" form of thiamine that doesn't break down with exposure to light, heat, and time sitting on a shelf waiting to be sold.  Our bodies have difficulty absorbing and utilizing it.  Only 30% is absorbed and less can be utilized.   There's some question as to how well multivitamins dissolve in the digestive tract.  You can test this at home.  YouTube has instructional videos.   Talk to your nutritionist about adding a B Complex.  The B vitamins are water soluble, so any excess is easily excreted if not needed.  Consider adding additional Thiamine in the forms Benfotiamine or TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) or thiamine hydrochloride.   Thiamine is needed to help control electrolytes.  Without sufficient thiamine, the kidneys loose electrolytes easily resulting in low sodium and chloride.   We need extra thiamine when we're emotionally stressed, physically ill, and when we exercise regularly, are an athlete, or do physical labor outdoors, and in hot weather.  Your return to activities and athletics may have depleted your thiamine and other B vitamins to a point symptoms are appearing.   The deficiency symptoms of B vitamins overlap, and can be pretty vague, or easily written off as due to something else like being tired after a busy day.  The symptoms you listed are the same as early B vitamin deficiency symptoms, especially Thiamine.  Thiamine deficiency symptoms can appear in as little as three days.  I recognize the symptoms as those I had when I was deficient.  It can get much worse. "My symptoms are as follows: Dizziness, lightheaded, headaches (mostly sinus), jaw/neck pain, severe tinnitus, joint stiffness, fatigue, irregular heart rate, post exercise muscle fatigue and soreness, brain fog, insomnia.  Generally feeling unwell." I took a B 50 Complex twice a day and extra thiamine in the forms Benfotiamine and TTFD.  I currently take the Ex Plus supplement used in this study which shows B vitamins, especially Thiamine B 1, Riboflavin B2, Pyridoxine B 6, and B12 Cobalamine are very helpful.   A functional evaluation of anti-fatigue and exercise performance improvement following vitamin B complex supplementation in healthy humans, a randomized double-blind trial https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10542023/
