I was stunned and saddened to read about Emily's father. Em, I'm so sorry for you and your family, sweetie. Please let us know if there is anything we can do. Your father is a good man who brought happiness to a lot of people and he will be sorely missed. Lots of love to you :wub:

I am absolutely overwhelmed by your kind words, your support.. ......truly speechless. Of course, why would I be at all surprised, as I've always known you to be so much more than hilarious co-members of a celiac forum - - you are all really, truly my friends.

I sat and sobbed this morning as I read all of your emails. Thank you so much, Janet, for posting that great link from CTV about Dad. There will be more press coverage, likely, as the news just broke this morning.

Lots to get done. I want you all here on Sunday more than anything for Dad's celebration of life. Now that would transcend everything - -if you could all make it up here. I know you will be there with me in spirit.....I will feel you. :)

You have been on my mind all day and I desperately wish I could find words to tell you how much I admire you, how wonderful you are, and how lucky we all were to have witnessed your dad's genius in our lifetime.

I remember when my youngest brother was in grade school he watched "You Can't Do That" faithfully. He absolutely LOVED your dad and the crazy antics of dumping green goo on people. There was never anything like it, before or after.

It's a tough time for you. Feel the loving arms of friendship wrapped around you in a warm embrace. :wub:

Today I ordered on ebay actual Tahitian vanilla beans to give more fragrance to my products that don't already have enough vanilla scent. :wacko: And, to make my own scented oils - maybe. :huh: Plus, three tiny fragrance samples from yet another home-scent crafter. :ph34r: I am on the quest for the perfect and longest-lasting vanilla. What a colossal waste of time. :lol: Yet, I cannot stop.

I need help. I haven't met a vanilla I don't like.

Okay, okay!! *YOU* must truly be my soul sister. I LOVE VANILLA!!!! It is my most favoritist scent, smell, flavor, taste...mmmmmmmmm. I have many vanilla candles, I love vanilla ice cream (my fave....bland, I know, but I love it)! I drink teas with vanilla flavoring. I love diet coke or pepsi with vanilla (I buy it in quantities because I can't always find it). We must be nuts together :lol::P

Em, you've been on my mind since I've heard. We are all so fotunate to have met your Dad through you, enjoyed his humor and antics right up to the last. He is a hero, a genius, a man with admirable strength to laugh at all that life has thrown him, and in spite of it. He will remain forever in the hearts, memories and laughter in everyone whose life he touched. Hugs to you and your family.....I'm there with you and "the gang".

Yes, we have been aware that this can be an issue with mushrooms but as long as they are rinsed thoroughly it should not be a problem since the mushrooms don't actually incorporate the gluten into their cellular structure. For the same reason, one needs to be careful when buying aged cheeses and products...

      Welcome to the celiac.com communiuty, @Matthias! Yes, we have been aware that this can be an issue with mushrooms but as long as they are rinsed thoroughly it should not be a problem since the mushrooms don't actually incorporate the gluten into their cellular structure. For the same reason, one needs to be careful when buying aged cheeses and products containing yeast because of the fact that they are sometimes cultured on gluten-containing substrate.

Later, at home, I was taking a closer look at the product: the mushrooms were growing from a visible layer of shredded cereals that had not been removed. After a quick web research I learned that these mushrooms are commonly cultivated on a cereal-based medium like wheat bran. I hope that info his helpful to someone.

If and when you’re ready, a physician can help you weigh options like limited gluten challenge, serology history, or documentation as “probable celiac.” What’s clear is that this wasn’t just random IBS — you identified the trigger, and your body has been very consistent in its response.
