Chilly Psillies!

Yes, many of us chilly. . . .......but Gnick, mygawd, we keep hearing about youse Eastern Europeans and the hellish cold snap sitting over you.. .. ..... .making big news here as it seems so incredible to have such troubles with centimetre upon centimetre of snow accumulating, and temperatures well below zero. <_< 'Tis a new, very unwelcome thing for the gang across the pond..... . . ....Um, guess it's now officially "Climate Change", not "Global Warming".... ...... . ..

We Canucks should be sending over our monster snow removal equipment, via barge, to help you blokes out. This is one of Ottawa's machines from the snow plow fleet, during a typical clean-up after a dusting of snow last week on one of our main streets.....

If you look very closely, you can see the three children alongside the plow, digging their way to school... . . .........

...but don't send the snauogh plaough via barge..ports are all shut. Frozen solid.

Will we survive this cold snap???....will Alzey ever go to school again????

I can't be sure.... soon we will have to decide..... heating OR food??

Currently resorting to 'old school' methods...... taping up drafty windows with clear plastic, hot water bottles in bed.....um baking our own (gluten-free) bread ('cos the shops have all but run out of any )

Hot toddies and thermal layers....tiger pig fully operational as cat bed/draft excluder/blankie.

We may just make it......

Happy New Year all you silliesacs!

Phairilly chillie for some of yuse folks out there. We are struggling with the mid 30's here in DC today. Almost an inch of snow pummeled us just the other day too. Almost couldn't see the sidewalk in a few places where the drifts piled up. The birds don't like all this snow, but Muffin-cat won't even go outdoors in it.

On a more serious note, I have finnally made something posistive out of the celiac disease experience. I have opened my own lguten Free Cafe! Here is a link where yuo can check out the treats. Our special today is Martian Brain Bake made with free range Martians. Better hurry it won't last long!

I wuz thinking of you, Nik, when on our TV weather they said that the cold was about to descend on London and the south-east, Like it hadn't been cold there before last night  ???? Also saw a space shot of the Chilly Isles and the whole thing was white, from bow to stern

Yep, plenty of hot toddies and snuggling on order. And it's good Alzey is home, really!! Another body to add to the ambient temperature. I won't dare mention our weather for fear of being booted off the board.

Men!!! or more specifically, Husbands!!! Looking at the macaroon cake I made to take to some neighbours' farewell elevenses this morning--"Is that cake made from scraaatch???" Er, yeah, ya haven't seen any little boxes around marked macaroon cake, have ya?? He thinks all our baking comes out of little boxes??? With all my restrictions??? "Oh well, they must make something for someone like you." Oh yeah??? Yer damned lucky it's gluten free even. You find it, I'll buy it. Namaste spice cake this summer maybe. But anywho, who says scratch is that hard?? Ya just have to not miss out any of the ingredients  (or instructions, for that matter  ).

Is it his ship that's stuck or his hiney? ... Anyways, if he hails from Nova Scotia his hiney should be tough enough, unless he usually drags it off to Brazil every winter  Let's see, Nova Scotia, ship's captain....fisherman??? Your experience is both shocking and critically important for the community to hear, underscoring the terrifying reality that cross-contamination can extend into the most unexpected and invasive medical devices. It is absolutely devastating that you had to endure six months of sickness and ultimately sustain permanent vision loss because a doctor dismissed your legitimate, life-altering condition. Your relentless research and advocacy, from discovering the gluten in MMA acrylic to finding a compassionate prosthodontist, is a testament to your strength in a system that often fails celiac patients. While the scientific and medical consensus is that gluten cannot be absorbed through the skin or eyes (as the molecules are too large to pass through these barriers), your story highlights a terrifying gray area: what about a substance *permanently implanted inside the body*, where it could potentially shed microparticles or cause a localized immune reaction? Your powerful warning about acrylic lenses and the drastic difference with the silicone alternative is invaluable information. Thank you for sharing your harrowing journey and the specific, severe neurological symptoms you endure; it is a stark reminder that celiac is a systemic disease, and your advocacy is undoubtedly saving others from similar trauma.

Those are driving distance from me--I will try to check them out, thanks for sharing!

I am so sorry you're going through this bad experience--it's difficult when your own lived reality of cause and effect is dismissed by the very professionals meant to help you. You are absolutely right—your violent physical reactions are not "what you think," but undeniable data points, and it's a form of medical gaslighting to be told otherwise, especially when you have a positive HLA-DQ2 gene and a clear clinical picture. Since your current "celiac specialist" is not addressing the core issue or your related conditions like SIBO and chronic fatigue, it may be time for a strategic pivot. Instead of trying to "reprove" your celiac disease to unwilling ears, consider seeking out a new gastroenterologist or functional medicine doctor, and frame the conversation around managing the complications of a confirmed gluten-free diet for celiac disease. Go in and say, "I have celiac disease, am strictly gluten-free, but I am still suffering from these specific complications: SIBO, chronic fatigue, dermatological issues, and high blood pressure linked to pain. I need a partner to help me address these related conditions." This shifts the focus from a debate about your diagnosis to a collaborative plan for your current suffering, which is the help you truly need and deserve to work toward bouncing back.

Hello, no I had to have them re done and then used a liner over the top.  Many dentists are not aware of the celiac effects.  Best of luck.   There is other material, yet, very expensive.

He is not just a psychiatrist.  He is also a neuroscientist.  And yes, I have already read those studies.   I agree with benfotiamine.  This is short term while glutened/inflammation occurs.  As I had already mentioned, these symptoms no longer exist when this phase passes.  And yes, I know that celiac is a disease of malnutrition.  We are working with a naturopath.
