I showed Smackl . . . he loved it. Our high school has a robotics club I would love for him to get involved in. He's in fifth grade. Is that jumping the gun a bit? :lol:

Check out www.us first.org. FLL is First Lego League for younger kids. Some of the high schools sponsor these.

Actually, our own Elementary School was looking into forming a team. Instead they just started a lego club . . . don't know if it will develop into something more or not. The highschool robotics club holds lego camp each summer as a fundraiser for their orginization. They use the Lego Mindstorm as a basis and work in teams and compete at the end of the week. Smackl did it a year and a half ago. Last summer, we just weren't here.

They've been having 5+ aftershocks. Phones are out. She may not be able to post.

Looks pretty bad. The fault line seems to run across the road in this video. Could be the worst damage is long that line. Lots of people walking around tho and cars even able to drive down the street, so not total devastation. Buildings are still standing right along this fault line, if that's what it is. Hopefully Schroomster was home by the time it hit in the afternoon. May the Lord keep you and bless you Shroommie!

Here's the reassuring post :) We are okay, house okay, even though we were only about 3 miles from the epicentre. Central city is pretty much destroyed though :( , and the town of Lyttelton just across the harbour from us is devastated (it was the epicentre). We have had hundreds (some of them gimungous) of aftershocks, Miss Em is scared witless (me too :blink: ), but power just came back on. 65 deaths, lots of people still trapped in buildings (it was lunch-hour), helicopters and planes fighting fires, it's a mess, but we will survive :ph34r::rolleyes:

Just reading through all of the posts I've missed. Ever find out what died in your fridge (was it Em)?

BTW.....glad to hear those shots are helping :)

Maybe I could start some threads asking if odd foods are gluten-free. Chocolate covered ants? Marmite? Pork rinds?

Pork rinds are gluten free. Don't know about the flavored ones, though.

Going to Five Guys tonight . . . first time we're trying this place . . . hope we like it. We need a few more places where the kids will actually eat and I feel safe enough to take Skeeter.

Hmmmmm....I haven't tried them. Is that up in your neck o' the woods?

Well.....I had an awesome weekend! Friday night was a slumber party with my female co-workers. Saturday I finally did something that's been on my bucket list forever and took a precious metal clay (Silver jewelry) class. Sunday was dancing, and a day off Monday!

I took the leap and gave meselph bangs! Cheaper than botox! :lol: And I think I got the desired effect, as I've been told it makes me look younger B)

So glad Shroomie is OK! Whew, that was a close one!

Congratz on the vid posting success Carin! And the Mustangs rambling and roving robot. They really had 'em moving. I had to "like" your video post on Ye Old Tube. And even subscribed sew I get updates ifn you post new vidz tu. Those kids are doing great stuff there!

Well yes, it is a gravel alluvial plain with shales washed down from the Southern Alps which form the backbone of the island. What that description leaves out is that half the city used to be a swamp!! :blink: My ancestors when they arrived on the First Four Ships (or at least my grandmother with several greats in front ,because my many times great grandfather died as they entered the harbour) spent many years in Lyttelton, the port, before she could make it over the hill and through the swamps to take up the ancestral land purchased in England before the voyage.

Now just how many cities do you know that have a suburb called Marshland??? :lol: The most unlikely soil type for a city yer ever heard of. Houses built in "Marshland" have to have poles inserted (can't remember how many now) meters into the "soil" - something like 30 feet :o for a foundation. Now why they didn't do that in Bexley goodness only knows :rolleyes: That's what we pay our elected officials for :P

I (incidentally) live "over the hill" on volcanic rock :ph34r: , the harbour being the crater and the hill being the rim. :lol:

      "I'm wondering if she just hadn't eaten enough to test positive?" --> Because your daughter is "IGA deficient", the (gliadin IGA) test she was given could not work properly and the result of that particular test was meaningless. The amount of gluten she did/didn't eat would not matter for that part, whether or not she actually has celiac disease....

      That sounds very hernia inducing work! You confirm what I have suspected, I get pain just to the right of the umbilical hernia, I am sure there is a connection. If do see my gastroenterologist I'll mention it again. I can't help thinking I've also got an issue in my groin, perhaps a hernia threatening, I guess an ultrasound would be needed to confirm...

      For the Inguinal hernia I could definitely feel it, and it came with an obvious bulge that appeared soon after doing a project where I was drilling holes on concrete using a very old school regular hand drill with mason bit, instead of a hammer drill with mason bit--this left me squatting over the drill putting my weight on it for several hours (the hammer...

      @Scott Adams Strange question but can you actually feel your hernia? I have so many abdominal lumps and bumps of longstanding (my GP said it's fat!) that I sometimes wonder if an inguinal hernia could be missed. I am quite sure some of my pain is from my umbilical hernia but that first came about courtesy of my second pregnancy.

If instead she had had normal levels of IGA in her blood, then the question of how much gluten she was eating would become relevant.

      For the Inguinal hernia I could definitely feel it, and it came with an obvious bulge that appeared soon after doing a project where I was drilling holes on concrete using a very old school regular hand drill with mason bit, instead of a hammer drill with mason bit--this left me squatting over the drill putting my weight on it for several hours (the hammer drill would not have required this level of stress, nor the time it took). Bad idea--learn from my mistake in being "lazy" and not renting (or buying) the proper tool for the job. My umbilical hernia was around for many years, and I didn't feel that one at all, so never worried about it. My doctor basically recommended doing both in one surgery, which seemed like wise move.  As far as the possible IBS connection to either, it was definitely apparent after getting the Inguinal hernia, which is why I asked my doctor about that, but after getting both fixed I realize that the umbilical hernia likely also had mild IBS effects over the years.
