Reminder to self . . . don't accept any all-expense-paid beach vacations from Rachelle.

But think about how much fun it would be! You'd never know where to look!

Family drama, always funny from the outside looking in

Oh, it's darned funny from the inside too!!!

It's not MY house that the problem .... it's the extended family ..... my house has normal fighting over the bathroom type stuff, but not drama.

Happy Anniversary, Patti!

Rachelle, I would so go with you. It would be nice to have a family as bad as ours! Always expecting to end up on The Jerry Springer Show! Remember, I'm the one who had Christmas dinner in the kitchen (1 SIL in solidarity) because I would not sit with the in- laws after the most recent horrible thing they did. Wouldn't let the grand kids sit with them except the 2 mostly grown ones. Sent the boys to a nice table in the basement with a nice view of the Xbox video game & 2 Tvs of football.

Uh, no, I couldn't post here unless my posts were moderated first, which would take up to 24 hours, and you guys would be like ten pages past that, so it was useless. I still only have six kids, one lives on his own ....

I resemble that remark - never takes longer than 23 :lol: Hello CarlaB. You've been gone so long I'm new too. but not THAT new - these guys have scrubbed me up pretty good  The reason it never takes longer than 23 is cos I'm usually Down Under and cleaning up the board when these other guys are layabeds.

Getting whapped by fate (or fat, as SueEllen suggested).

I've been waffling about my approach to grad school: Would I not to try to get in the program, just take classes for grad level credit so I could keep working and take them for free (and extend the time it took to complete the program)? Would I try to get in the program, but turn down any financial assistance (TAing) so I could keep working and have some control over my income (and extend the time it took to complete the program)? Or should I just quit work, dive in head first, and take the financial hit ($500-$1000/month)?

Those of you keeping a diary of my whining will recall that I'm not overly happy at work. After a couple very unpleasant interactions these last couple weeks, I was sitting on the bus last night thinking "God I wish I could just quit my job!" when I realized that I can. And will. Not until I'm in the program and school starts, of course, once I made the decision completely I am so much more calm and happy.

I have a few months to really tighten my belt and save as much as I can, so I don't feel as if I've thrown myself off a cliff. I apply in January for a Sept. start. If I don't get in I still have the option of taking the classes for grad credit and applying next year.

And it's completely legit to quit your job to go back to school - no political ramifications at all. :)

Yes you can, and I'm so happy that you came to a decision that you are at peace with. I truly think that is the hardest part ;)

I adapted this to be a gluten-free recipe from www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/autumn-pear-bread. Wonderful flavor profile, great texture, fairly easy to make. The almond flavor from the almond flour complements the pear flavor. Ingredients 1 cup almond flour 1 cup sweet rice flour 1 cup millet flour 2 Tablespoons tapioca flour 1 cup sugar 1 ½ teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon baking soda 3/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg 6 tablespoons cold butter 3 large eggs, room temperature 3/8 cup buttermilk (1 tsp white vinegar + 3/8 cup milk) 2 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 ½ cup finely chopped ripe pears (1-2 med/large pears. You could peel them but I don't) Directions (optional) cut butter into pats, place on saucer in the refrigerator while prepping other ingredients In large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt and nutmeg. (I use a whisk to mix) Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. (I use pastry blender) Combine eggs, buttermilk and vanilla (I use same whisk); stir into flour mixture just until moistened. (I use a mixing spoon) Fold in pears. (mixing spoon) Spoon into 2 greased 5 x 8 inch loaf pans Bake at 350° for 35-40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pans on to wire rack. Allow to cool completely. Not sure how long you can keep this at room temperature because it gets eaten quickly

@Jmartes71, I understand how frustrated you feel.  I have been disappointed with the medical system myself.  Have you read my story in my blog?   What can we do to help you get better?   Nutritional deficiencies are common in Celiac disease.  Have you been checked for vitamin and mineral deficiencies?   Which supplements are you taking?

It would seem then that your next step should be a biopsy to check for damage to the villous lining of the small bowel. But you must not reduce gluten intake until that is performed else healing will take place in that area of the intestines and the biopsy results would be invalidated.

Welcome, @anya22, Can you tell us more about your diet?   How much gluten containing foods did you eat?  What kinds of gluten containing foods did you eat?  What has your high calorie diet consisted of?   Some gluten containing foods contain less gluten than others.  Cakes and cookies may have less gluten than something like deep dish pizza.   Glad you're here!
