Okay, here's something that's really dumb silly. We are being told to boil our water for 1 minute, for 3 minutes, for 5 minutes, for 6 minutes, for 10 minutes; it's like pluck a number out of the air and that's the answer. Even the Chief Medical Officer for the city said 5 minutes. So hubs decides to go on line to see what he could find

HOW LONG SHOULD YOU BOIL WATER TO MAKE IT SAFE?

The fact is, with a water temperature of 160 to 165 degrees F (74 C) it takes just half an hour for all disease causing organisms to be inactivated. At 185 degrees this is cut to just a few minutes. By the time water hits its boiling point of 212 F (100 C) - plus or minus depending upon pressure or altitude - the water is safe. Even at high altitudes the time it takes for the water to reach a rolling boil and then cool means you can safely drink it.

So we are saving energy and just bringing it to a boil, even though "they" tell us that just bringing it to a rolling boil in a jug with an automatic switch-off is NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

By the way, thanks for the Portaloos yous guys are sending our way :D and for your urban search and rescue teams :) :)

This sent me waaaay back. I have a memory of this song playing in December of 1966 while I was visiting my uncle and his family in in California. I just get this image of a yellow VW beetle, uncle Pete (after whom I am named), and this song playing. Now I can't get it out of my mind.

Dunno what the Canucks are doing for youse guys.. . .. ....we got some Mounties over there, then?

I'm telling ya, if a disaster-struck country should ever, EVER need milk in a bag, with pouring containers, we are here to serve.

In fact, I am not certain why our Prime Minister has never bestowed an assembled bag of milk in its infamous plastic container to the presidents of various countries that he is visiting. Hell, Inuit sculptures.. . . ..Group of Seven paintings, polar bear diamond pendants... .. . .C'mon, give official dignitaries something truly wonderful...!

POeter! I think you were, at this time, living about six blocks from me. I was a year old. How come my mom never called you to come over and babysit? :P:lol:

Hi Psilles,

BELATED HAPPY BIRTHDAY PATTI!!!!!

I've been popping in and out because I'm keeping the medical profession in business on a daily basis. Still alive to talk about it laugh.gif

I hope you're all doing well. Heading out soon to pick up Tony and a friend from the train to see a cover group of the Beatles for his birthday. He's downtrodden because something happened and hi BF is no longer. Won't talk to us about it. It's hard to see them hurting and not be able to fix it any more.

Miss you all!!!

Loey wub.gif

P.S. Clark makes his presentation and meets with several top people at the new company Thursday. Keep everything crossed!

jerseyangel Proficient

Thanks Loey--phingers and toes crossed fer Klark.

Sorry you're having such a hard time still. My first year was awful--I thought I was never gonna feel better. Hang in there :)

Well, I've made a new discovery. If you go off to Spain and forget to renew your truck tabs, the local constabulary are kind enough to remind you of it. And politely expect you to pay them for the time they spent assisting you.

Those guys must get a lot more per hour than I do..... <_<

Off to buy my tabs.

Motto of the week: "If it's brown, flush it down; if it's yellow, let it mellow" Of as we used to say in CA: "In this land of sun and fun, we don't flush for number one."

Ok, but what if you're really dehydrated (I dunno, been drinking copious amounts of Wodka the night before) and yer wee is like auburn...almost brown??? unsure.gif (& yer have a stinkin' headache)

NOT the sort of dilemma yer need wiv a heinous hangover rolleyes.gif

That was like one o' 'The Ripper's' conundrums laugh.gif

I believe some discretion is allowed for the in-between shades :P Besides, we have several terlets for different purposes - a yellow one, a brown one (closest to the spa) and a hangover one (as yet unused because there's not enuff drinking water to allow for getting dehydrated - only enuff for mellow :D

  It WAS! Must get Jack back on those. .. . ... ..

OMG.... . . . . ..DH would let a mellow yellow terlet sit and continue receiving contriutions for about a week before he would figger that it's time to flush... .. . .quite revolting.

It's my one extravagance - - I flush after I pee, regardless of hue . .. . . . .. . ..

Ah yes, a new biznus opportunity there, Nik, no doubt. Need to create some employment down here or everyone will move out :o There'll only be us retirees left :P And then who will buy our houses when we go into the old folks home?

Water may be running in a week - or in two months.... since it has to come from Lyttelton (the epicentre) through the pipes on the harbour floor  They are filling the Lyttelton reservoir now.

Awww, shucks, the U.S. Consulate just kindly sent me an email inquiring as to my safety!! Uncle Sam cares :lol: They didn't ask about hubs, for some reason..... Mebbe because he's travelling below the radar. Desperado on the run. (I turned him in)

And just so you don't think we are lolling about relaxing, we have had 15 aftershocks today, with three of them being, respectively, 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3 :( Miss Em barely bothers to raise en eyelid now :D

AAaaand, the HMNZS Canterbury is steaming up the harbour right this minute bringing much needed supplies from Wellington, like portaloos, and Army 4-wheel drive vehicles and who knows what else??? :D

A container (small, coastal) ship came in yesterday and they were hoping to get a fuel tanker berthed today, but there is only one operational wharf

Got on here to find some giggles. I found some, but they quickly turned to sobs. I swear, if I hear 1 more person say, "At least it wasn't a cat or a dog, that would have been worse..." I shall SCREAM!!! I passed a mirror an hour ago and it looks like I've been in a major fight. I guess I have though. I'm going back and forth between fighting with God and repeating the Serenity prayer to myself. Mocha was so very loved in his short time with us. I'm just having a hard time holding my daughter while she sobs, clutching her chest crying that, "It just hurts so bad mama, my heart hurts so bad"

RIP Mocha bunny -_-

This happened to Jesse recently, except his excuse was, "My wife forgot to renew my tabs" <_<

Me too! My son, however, doesn't care what color it is. He cannae be bothered by flushing

Ah! ...market for 'adut wipes' out there....

Oh, we have them at the hospital. I think they're actually called 'adult wipes' I'll see if I can snap a pic of them tomorrow :P

You've done an excellent job of meticulously tracking the rash's unpredictable behavior, from its symmetrical spread and stubborn scabbing to the potential triggers you've identified, like the asthma medication and dietary changes. It's particularly telling that the rash seems to flare with wheat consumption, even though your initial blood test was negative—as you've noted, being off wheat before a test can sometimes lead to a false negative, and your description of the other symptoms—joint pain, brain fog, stomach issues—is very compelling. The symmetry of the rash is a crucial detail that often points toward an internal cause, such as an autoimmune response or a systemic reaction, rather than just an external irritant like a plant or mites. I hope your doctor tomorrow takes the time to listen carefully to all of this evidence you've gathered and works with you to find some real answers and effective relief. Don't be discouraged if the rash fluctuates; your detailed history is the most valuable tool you have for getting an accurate diagnosis.

In this case the beer is excellent, but for those who are super sensitive it is likely better to go the full gluten-free beer route. Lakefront Brewery (another sponsor!) has good gluten-free beer made without any gluten ingredients.

Welcome to the forum, @catsrlife! Celiac disease can be diagnosed without committing to a full-blown "gluten challenge" if you get a skin biopsy done during an active outbreak of dermatitis herpetiformis, assuming that is what is causing the rash. There is no other known cause for dermatitis herpetiformis so it is definitive for celiac disease. You would need to find a dermatologist who is familiar with doing the biopsy correctly, however. The samples need to be taken next to the pustules, not on them . . . a mistake many dermatologists make when biopsying for dermatitis herpetiformis.

You state in an earlier post that you don't have celiac disease. Here in this post you state you will "be doing another test". What will this test be looking for? What kind of celiac disease testing have you had done? If you have used a Entero Labs it sounds like you have had stool testing done for celiac disease which is not widely accepted as a valid celiac disease diagnostic testing method. Have you had blood antibody testing for celiac disease done and do you realize that for antibody testing to be valid you must have been eating generous amounts of gluten for a period of weeks/months?
    • Gigi2025
No, I've not been diagnosed as celiac.  Despite Entero Labs being relocated to Switzerland/Greece, I'll be doing another test. After eating wheat products in Greece for 4 weeks, there wasn't any reaction.  However, avoiding it here in the states.   Thanks everyone for your responses.
