Actually, it does appear to move,

I emptied out the stomach before bed last night, so I think I'm better off than I woulda been. I got up and made 24 homemade cinnamon rolls this morning and 4 pots of coffee. Now that I'm sitting still, it's not good. I think I see a nap in my future

Hey! How's Gramma?

Any drunken ex- stripper stories?

I haven't been here much lately with updates.

Canadian Thanksgiving was two weeks ago. We usually do our semi-annual makeover that weekend, but only got to it today. The weather has been unusually warm, and then it rained for a week. Today was cool, but pleasant and dry. The summer deck stuff is put away for the season, the squirrel bird feeder is up, along with the squirrel fountain bird bath.

Hot times at our place! Thursday we baked incinerated some taco shells in the oven. It was supposed to be set to 350oF. The plates came out much hotter. Did we accidentally set 450o?

Friday we put Kinnikinnick pizza crusts in, set for 375. The oven was cycling on and off, but the pizza was overdone. Okay, no coincidence here, something is f***ed up. (I said "fouled" - where were your minds?) Went to Wally World today and got an oven thermometer. Jacquie put it in the oven and set it to 200o. Temperature went up to almost 300o. I tried the oven at 350o -- it went up to almost 475o! Now we know what happened to the taco shells. :(

I heated some plates in the toaster oven this evening, set to 250o. The oven thermometer reported 240o, so it agreed with that oven.

Arrggh! Service call on the stove in the morning. It is a very old unit, nothing digital or even electronic, but well built and well insulated. It was in the house when we moved in in 1989, and was not new then. It likely was the developer's original when the condo was built around 1976. If so, it is the last original appliance. For those who remember the era of coloUred appliances, it is "Harvest Gold."

<snort> We had Harvest Gold appliances in our first house in 1976. It was a big decision to go with that, or the Avocado Green. Tres chic!

Speaking of squirrels, did I tell you guys that we inherited a squirrel with this house? I named him Chewy--he shows up on our deck every morning to get the acorns and unsalted peanuts I leave there for him.

The former owner told us about him--evidently he was so comfortable with them, he would eat out of their hands. With me, he's more comfortable with the glass door in between us while he eats.

Aha, so Patteigh has moved from North Jersey apt. to South Jersey house  Congratulations if my assumptions are correct  The way we have to deduce information!!!! ;)

We have inherited neighbors' scaredy cat - they couldn't find her when they moved to Oz after the 2nd quake. She has even been so bold as to (once) let us touch her head, but usually lurks in the bushes waiting for food at same time each night (just before darkness). Sometimes if we are late she lies where we place the food bowl  (of the cupboard kind) but is usually hiding by the time we get out there with the food.. For a while there we were jinxed because every time she started eating there would be an aftershock and we were afraid she would associate eating with quakes  which was the reason she was MIA when neighbors left (I think they are coming back ?? but nothing happening on their house)

About 22 years ago, we moved into a lovely house with avocado shag carpet, avocado fridge and harvest gold oven. The appliances were 15 years old then, but going strong. We painted the fridge white & tore up that carpet.

Peter, it may be time for a " makeover" in the kitchen. This fall makeover....did you change your hair color? Get implants? Botox? New clothes?

We seem to be sharing a small white dog and a small white girl with the neighbors behind us! Their little puppy loves Cooper and Cooper loves him. The little one fits thru the fence and is always in our yard followed by his 8 year old girl ( she has a chair on her side & a step stool on our side as the human child doesn't fit thru).

Patti & Shroomie, Should I be providing pet food and acorns?

The cat doesn't eat acorns, but I suppose I could try a new recipe for a new source of protein (but they're probably high in lectins :( )

ACORN PANCAKES from Sharon Hendricks

Break an egg into a bowl. Add:

1 teaspoon salad oil

1 teaspoon of honey or sugar

1/2 cup of ground and leached acorns

1/2 cup of corn meal

1/2 cup of whole wheat or white flour

2 teaspoons of double action baking powder

1/2 teaspoon of salt

1/2 cup of milk

Beat all together. If the batter is too thick to pour, thin it with milk. Pour pancakes into a hot, greased griddle and cook slowly until brown on both sides.

Serve with butter and syrup or wild blackberry jam. Delicious!

Of course she doesn't mention the prep time on the acorns ;) And it does have corn meal :o

We were looking for our first house in mid-seventies and the one we liked had turquoise!! appliances. We did nae buy it.

* snort * ColoUr references of 1970's appliances......I very vaguely recall our house having a great deal of orange throughout my early childhood. I particularly remember the big avacado phone sitting on the li'l special phone table in the hallway.. .. . .....

POeter! Can you believe that I found a pic of Jacquie proudly standing at your current stove during happier times, when it faithfully produced delicious pastries and roasts?

How on earth did she ever manage to organize a perfectly matching dress to the wallpaper??

Thanks Shroom--we closed on the house at the end of June and have been slowly moving everything down here. I've been living here since July with Mark staying at the apartment during the week and coming down weekends and usually Wednesday nights. Starting this week, he is down here for good and will be commuting the 77 miles. (apartment lease is up at the end of this month--it's effectively empty, just has to be vacuumed, etc)

Reminds me--in the late 70's, Mark and I had the latest in phones--it was brown, and the handle was super rounded so it looked like a big donut.

Might not be wallpaper . . . might be a curtain . . . which makes me think of Carol Burnett wearing the drapes in the Gone with the Wind parady.

When I was looking for my first house in 1989, I saw a house with the turquoise brathroom fixtures and a house with burnt orange bathroom fixtures. The one that I actually bought had the avacado green kitchen appliances . . . and the Refrigerator brand was "Norge."

kareng Grand Master

My folk's house has a bathroom with a Pepto pink toliet, sink & tub.

Does she have her dress that matches the drapes all pressed and ready to doff?

I am on day 13 of eating gluten  and have decided to have the celiac panel done tomorrow instead of Wed. (and instead of extending it a few more weeks) because I am SO incredibly sick. I have almost no appetite and am not able to consume the required daily intake of calcium to try to keep up with the loss of calcium from the high parathyroid hormone and/or the renal calcium leak.    I have spent the past 15 years working hard to improve my health. I lost 50lbs, got off handfuls of medications, lowered my cholesterol to enviable levels, and in spite of having end stage osteoarthritis in both knees, with a good diet and keeping active I have NO pain in those joints- til now.  Almost all of my joints hurt now I feel like someone has repeatedly punched me all over my torso- even my ribs hurt- I have nausea, gas, bloating, headache, mood swings, irritability, horrid flatulence (afraid to leave the house or be in any enclosed spaces with other people- the smell would knock them off their feet) I was so sure that I wanted a firm diagnosis but now- I'm asking myself is THIS worth it? esp over the past 2 yrs I have been feeling better and better the more I adjusted my diet to exclude highly refined grains and processed foods. I didn't purposely avoid gluten, but it just happened that not eating gluten has made me feel better.   I don't know what I would have to gain by getting a definitive diagnosis. I think possibly the only advantage to a DX would be that I could insist on gluten-free foods in settings where I am unable to have access to foods of my choice (hospital, rehab, nursing home)  and maybe having a medical reason to see a dietician?   please let me know if it's reasonable to just go back to the way I was eating.  Actually I do plan to buy certified gluten-free oats as that is the only grain I consume (and really like) so there will be some minor tweaks I hope and pray that I heal quickly from any possible damage that may have been done from 13 days of eating gluten.

So I've been dealing with chasing the name celiac because of my body actively dealing with health issues related to celiac though not eating. Diagnosed in 1994 before foods eliminated from diet. After 25 years with former pcp I googled celiac specialist and she wasn't because of what ive been through. I wanted my results to be sent to my pcp but nothing was sent.I have email copies.I did one zoom call with np with team member from celiac specialist in Nov 2025 and she asked me why I wanted to know why I wanted the celiac diagnosis so bad, I sad I don't, its my life and I need revalidaion because its affecting me.KB stated well it shows you are.I asked then why am I going through all this.I was labeled unruly. Its been a celiac circus and medical has caused anxiety and depression no fault to my own other than being born with bad genetics. How is it legal for medical professionals to gaslight patients that are with an ailment coming for help to be downplayed? KB put in my records that she personally spent 120min with me and I think the zoom call was discussing celiac 80 min ONE ZOOM call.SHE is responsible for not explaining to my pcp about celiac disease am I right?

I've noticed with my age and menopause my smell for bread gives me severe migraines and I know this. Its alarming that there are all these fabulous bakeries, sandwich places pizza places popping up in confined areas.Just the other day I suffered a migraine after I got done with my mri when a guy with a brown paper bag walk in front of me and I smelled that fresh dough bread with tuna, I got a migraine when we got home.I hate im that sensitive. Its alarming these places are popping up in airports as well.I just saw on the news that the airport ( can't remember which  one)was going to have a fabulous smelling bakery. Not for sensitive celiacs, this can alter their health during their travel which isn't safe. More awareness really NEEDS to be promoted, so much more than just a food consumption!FYI I did write to Stanislaus to let them know my thoughts on the medical field not knowing much about celiac and how it affects one.I also did message my gi the 3 specialist names that was given on previous post on questions on celiac. I pray its not on deaf door.
