:lol: :lol: :lol: Just got this one from my mom!

An older, tired-looking dog wandered into my yard; I could tell from his collar and well-fed belly that he had a home and was well taken care of.

He calmly came over to me, I gave him a few pats on his head; he then followed me into my house, slowly walked down the hall, curled up in the corner and fell asleep.

An hour later, he went to the door, and I let him out.

The next day he was back, greeted me in my yard, walked inside and resumed his spot in the hall and again slept for about an hour. This continued off and on for several weeks.

Curious I pinned a note to his collar: 'I would like to find out who the owner of this wonderful sweet dog is and ask if you are aware that almost every afternoon your dog comes to my house for a nap.'

The next day he arrived for his nap, with a different note pinned to his collar: 'He lives in a home with 6 children, 2 under the age of 3 - he's trying to catch up on his sleep. Can I come with him tomorrow?'

Do any of my fellow sillies fly Southwest air? Wondering what your experiences are?

Jestgar Rising Star

love southwest. You get exactly what you expect. If you are travelling far, the multiple plane changes suck, but other than that, I've never had any problems.

SWA and BA are the only airlines I choose to use.

Isn't Southwest the one where you'll want to go online & grab "group A" boarding 23hrs & 59min before departure time?

:lol::lol: yep, that's the one . . . and 59 seconds

So, I don't remember, but I think I told you guys that we were having some work done to our deck the last two weeks. Well, it was being done by a really nice "handyman couple" (I could never work with my hubby like that). Anyways . . . we have a little fish pond off of our deck and I was telling them that we can't seem to keep any frogs. We catch them and bring them home and then the first rainy couple of days where there are plenty of puddles around, they make a break for it. They told me they would keep an eye out for a frog at their house (with an actual pond as opposes to our "landscaped" one). The guy even went out frog huntin' early one morning but they came up with nuttin'!! They finished our deck last Thursday (and it looks beautiful). This morning at 8:15 they called to tell me that they stopped by reaaaalllly early and left a little container with a frog for the kids . . . and let me tell you, I'm probably at least a 20 minute detour off of the route they were headed on. How nice is that??!!?? The kids have named him Ripples. We've had one spotting since his release. Anybody know how to tether a frog to a pond??

Also, results of the knee appt . . . probable surgery for cartilage repair. I'll talk to a new doc (surgeon) late next week, surgery wouldn't be until end of summer/back to school time. . . and I don't need any sympathy, I'm actually glad to be taking some action. My knee has been bothering me so much that it has been keeping me from doing some of the things that I like to do and forget about spending any time with Sven, just too painful!!

Hear, hear! And stolen art, and the yeti-llama! :lol:

Susie, an interesting suspicion you have, there.... . ... .Llamalady is not giving us her real name, or her exact location, or much of anything, really... . ...She provided us with a map to her domain, but 'twas very cryptic....

Could it be?..... :huh:

Jeez, if only I could somehow nonchalantly get Llamalady to divulge her inseam measurement.....I'd know in a second if she's our yeti!

:rolleyes::lol:

Gian-knit, keep us posted on your knee. I completely understand when you get to the point where you're just ready to do whatever needs to be done to be able to move on and get it behind you. :)

We have a coy pond, and I find that the frogs tend to come and go--we had a large one that appeared as soon as the weather warmed up. He's gone now, but in his place is a smaller one. I have no idea where they come from, or where they go :lol:

Hopefully, your new guy will stick around!

Sounds great, Janet! It is amazing what they can go in and do with major joint repair nowadays. Come autumn, Sven might be knockin' on yer door....... :)

Does anyone else suspect that our lost, neglected, embittered yeti just might be behind the disappearance of these Silly frogs? :o

Maybe you could call your local pet store and say you are interested in a leash for your pet frog....see what kind of response you get :lol::lol:

And good for you for taking action on your knee Janet, a couple of my family memebers had this done, or something similar and it made a night and day difference for them.

Done that. Start physical therapy now, if you can. Makes the recovery so much faster.

Just a driveby... gotta start dinner in a minute.

Janet,

Are you sure you don't have a snake in residence? Sometimes, as soon as you get a good frog population going, a snake will move in because... well, they want to eat 'em. So the frogs take off. Some snakes will just pass through the area, but other species like to settle down at a nice pond-- they won't leave until you make 'em.

Have never seen a snake at this house . . . I think one of us would have seen one by now if that was our problem (and this would also have filled my children's hearts with glee). I have heard that if a frog finds your pond, he will stay. If you bring one to your pond, he will eventually leave. Problem is, frogs just don't "happen" by our little pond . . . perhaps I should put out signs.

      Welcome to the celiac.com communiuty, @Matthias! Yes, we have been aware that this can be an issue with mushrooms but as long as they are rinsed thoroughly it should not be a problem since the mushrooms don't actually incorporate the gluten into their cellular structure. For the same reason, one needs to be careful when buying aged cheeses and products containing yeast because of the fact that they are sometimes cultured on gluten-containing substrate.

      The one kind of food I had been buying and eating without any worry for hidden gluten were unprocessed veggies. Well, yesterday I discovered yet another pitfall: cultivated mushrooms. I tried some new ones, Shimeji to be precise (used in many asian soup and rice dishes). Later, at home, I was taking a closer look at the product: the mushrooms were growing from a visible layer of shredded cereals that had not been removed. After a quick web research I learned that these mushrooms are commonly cultivated on a cereal-based medium like wheat bran. I hope that info his helpful to someone.

      I might suggest you consider buckwheat groats. https://www.amazon.com/Anthonys-Organic-Hulled-Buckwheat-Groats/dp/B0D15QDVW7/ref=sr_1_4_pp?crid=GOFG11A8ZUMU&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.bk-hCrXgLpHqKS8QJnfKJLKbKzm2BS9tIFv3P9HjJ5swL1-02C3V819UZ845_kAwnxTUM8Qa69hKl0DfHAucO827k_rh7ZclIOPtAA9KjvEEYtaeUV06FJQyCoi5dwcfXRt8dx3cJ6ctEn2VIPaaFd0nOye2TkASgSRtdtKgvXEEXknFVYURBjXen1Nc7EtAlJyJbU8EhB89ElCGFPRavEQkTFHv9V2Zh1EMAPRno7UajBpLCQ-1JfC5jKUyzfgsf7jN5L6yfZSgjhnwEbg6KKwWrKeghga8W_CAhEEw9N0.eDBrhYWsjgEFud6ZE03iun0-AEaGfNS1q4ILLjZz7Fs&dib_tag=se&keywords=buckwheat%2Bgroats&qid=1769980587&s=grocery&sprefix=buchwheat%2Bgroats%2Cgrocery%2C249&sr=1-4&th=1 Takes about 10 minutes to cook. Incidentally, I don't like quinoa either. Reminds me and smells to me like wet grass seed. When its not washed before cooking it makes me ill because of saponins in the seed coat. Yes, it can be difficult to get much dietary calcium without dairy. But in many cases, it's not the amount of calcium in the diet that is the problem but the poor uptake of it. And too much calcium supplementation can interfere with the absorption of vitamins and minerals in general because it raises gut pH.

      What you’re describing really does not read like typical IBS-D. The dramatic, rapid normalization of stool frequency and form after removing wheat, along with improved tolerance of legumes and plant foods, is a classic pattern seen in gluten-driven disease rather than functional IBS. IBS usually worsens with fiber and beans, not improves. The fact that you carry HLA-DQ2.2 means celiac disease is absolutely possible, even if it’s less common than DQ2.5, and many people with DQ2.2 present later and are under-diagnosed. Your hesitation to reintroduce gluten is completely understandable — quality of life matters — and many people in your position choose to remain strictly gluten-free and treat it as medically necessary even without formal biopsy confirmation. If and when you’re ready, a physician can help you weigh options like limited gluten challenge, serology history, or documentation as “probable celiac.” What’s clear is that this wasn’t just random IBS — you identified the trigger, and your body has been very consistent in its response.
