Is it really going down to the freezing mark there, Sooooze? Mygawd - - did not know that this ever happened in the Phrezno area. . . . . ...

Oh yes, it DOES freeze here in the valley, and it's terribly sad for citrus growers. :( They are up all night on those freezing nights, flood irrigating, with warming lights/fans, etc., trying frantically to save their crops. Last year - no, two years ago - I think we lost 60 or 70 percent of the citrus crops here?? due to a prolonged freeze........

We will have snow this weekend at a VERY low level, 1500 feet! This means skiing soon. :) I MUST get my skiing mojo back and head up there this year........

Ok I am chuckling, after all this and Janet's entries it says "Lose weight like Oprah".....didn't Oprah gain weight

It might be one of those things that you have to catch off guard, it knows you are trying to trick it....like the ads for blinds, that just caught us unawares.

Em, so happy Sam is standing watch at yer friends place....he is so multi-purpose that one ;) The changing of positions in order to fool potential robbers and thiefs made me think of the movie Home Alone, where Kevin rigged some aparatuses for his mannequins to look like people in front of the window dancing and moving around. Maybe your friend could do sumfin like that ......I just hope the frozenneck/constant looking to the side doesn't tip them off

Jacquie, LOVE your avatar!!

However,....I am dressed to kill

Nikki is smokin!!!!!

btw, I enjoyed your descriptions of your sneezes  .....a neat little Nnngggg!!

WHAT!?!?!

Your slimming club has a blowout party!?

Is this to keep them in business for the next year?

Jess, did I miss the explanation of your avatar?!?!

I think you are on to them Jess! That's a really good way to get them back after the new year from all the weight gain at the slimming club blowout.

:o you mean.......this actually happens????????????? always thought people were lyin' when they said this - - HOW could one crave fruit and not, say, NUGGETS???????? or ICE CREAM????

my latest find? the dark chocolate-covered caramels at Trader Joe's - - dear gawd - HOPE I do not buy any today........

Did you say DARK CHOCOLATE?!?!?!?!

Yes, I swear tis true......at least that is what I experienced. After a while I got to really appreciating the natural sugars of the fruit, when I ate sugar Thanksgiving it made me sick and I just wanted the fruit again. Now if I can only get off the chocolate and Apple Cinnamon Pecan Caramel Corn and get back to the fruit. Janet Darn that Archer Farms! ...but I am working on it ;)

And how exciting for you, an arctic blast! It's the little things that bring so much joy  We are getting one too, maybe it's the same one  Sunday and Monday, with snow :D

I need to get my skiing mojo back too, haven't been FOREVER and now my nieces ski, they can no doubt out ski me by now. I'm going to have to learn all over again

John and I are thinking about maybe getting a christmas tree this evening--it would be a great evening to do that.

I am just so glad it is Friday, we got some stuff to go over at the new house tomorrow.

Oh Amanda, getting a tree tonight sounds like a fun plan, how festive!! Hope you guys have a good weekend after such a crazy week :)

She's black, very playful and, the best part of all, she only has a half tail (born that way) that she wags like a dog when you talk to her. Me dad had tears in his eyes!

Ironically, we adopted Angus two years ago today!!!!!

I first saw your new av in another thread. I thought, geez, that is some dandruff--oh wait, could it be snow... And you say it was.

Enjoy the day off tomorrow, Ash. For us, snow or no snow, work goes on.

Hello Peter!

Ha, guess I'm gonna have to ask Santa for some industrial-sized Head & Shoulders for Christmas to take care of that 'dandruff'

Oh my goodness, I wouldn't know what do if I lived in Canada! I'm so afraid of driving in the snow. everyone here acts as if it were dandruff failing from the sky lol

Hail to the neewww KWEEN!

I've gotten so far behind, I'm lost all over again. Hope everybody is fine and in good holiday spirits! I'm kinda lookin for my spirits...they dropped off a while back and are no where to be found :(

Careful of pinching off those sneezes! Pseriously (cereally?) you can do yourself some harm. These days I don't sneeze just one (kinda like Lays potato chips...remember that one?..no one can eat just one?). I have to sneeze continuously for 1/2 hour or so. Quite debilitating.

Not much to say. I HAVE been reading over your shoulders again, sorry. I guess my spirits have abducted my personal psillies, too.

Oh, Yeah! Congrats on finding Hazel! Sometimes things that you desperately need have a way of finding you. I'm sure it was meant to be :)

Yes, he IS perpetually in profile..... . . . also, his arms stop just below the shoulder. As we viewed him from outside the front of her place, this was quite noticeable. We decided that passersby and/or psychopaths would be certain that her guest is an amputee, perhaps having had a paralyzing stroke, and they would just leave her alone out of begrudging pity. . . . . .. ...either way, they stay away .. . .

Well, am wide awake, sillies, and with a throbbing tooth.

A root canal looks more inevitable, all the time.... :huh:There goes me boob job. (which is never actually going to happen, unless I win the lottery. Must remember to buy tickets some time.)

Sillies - am wondering if any of youse have had root canals? It is soooooo expensive to have that and then the mandatory ceramic crown..... :(

'tis b@#$%$#%!!!!!! The throbbing pain just gets worse - I could not STAND the arrogant endodontist I saw and must get a second opinion.

Well, I hear Dave calling to me from the other room. (Letterman, that is)

'night night ;)

Morning, Psillies!

Just got an email from the English travellers....they're on their way to Heathrow....should be landing in Ottawa at 3:45 pm. Jack is enraptured with London, and swears he will live there. Is planning on a quick, easy scholarship to Oxford, studying "anything to do with science fiction" .

. .. .been doing this setup for a couple wks and suddenly can't remember to turn off the power supplies & waveform generator b4 taking the part out of the socket . ....

Hey! This sounds like something Jack could study at Oxford. . . . rather science-and-mathy, some engineering. . ... .. but is it fictional?:lol:

Soooze, I waited too long, kept putting off the root canal that I was strongly being urged to have, and ended up suffering so much bone loss that the tooth had to be extracted. It was a front molar, just visible, so I had to replace the tooth - - a WHOLE LOT more expensive than a root canal/crown.

Get a second opinion, but it isn't something you should fool around with. The pain is from infection, and repeated oral infection can eventually get dangerous (cardiovascularly, even!)

Take care o' dat toof!!!!

Sophie has a BIG game today vs. Gloucester, a team that has not lost a single game all season. They are 16-0. :o They are big, tough girls who look like they need many root canals. . . . . . ..

I just recently saw something on this.  Has anyone tried test strips?  Which brand is better?  Not sure how they really work and if they really do work.  Thank you, Nancy (aka Borky)

Hello @Midwesteaglesfan and welcome. A result greater than 10 U/mL is considered positive. Some labs use 15 as the cutoff, but 34 is in the positive.  The endoscopy and biopsy is looking for damage to your small intestine.  I don't don't think 5 days is enough to repair the damage. This comment is effectly your answer, regardless of your biopsy results.  The endoscopy has been the Gold Standard diagnostic, and most healthcare providers won't diagnose celiac disease until your intestinal lining Marsh Score reaches stage 3. You don't really want to wait for the damage to get worse, especially since only five days mostly gluten free gave you relief.  Yes, migranes is one of the 200 symptoms that may be caused by Celiac Disease. Malabsorption Syndrome is often comorbid with celiac disease.  The western diet is deficient in many vitamins and minerals.  That's why gluten processed foods are fortified.  Gluten free processed foods are not; Vitamin D deficiency is a virtual given.  40 to 60% of the industrial population is deficient in vitamin D, Damage to the intestinal lining from celiac disease can decrease the number of vitamin D receptors.  So now you get no vitamin D from the sun (skin cancer scare) the major source of vitamin D, plus absorbtion from food is poor because of intestinal damage.   Low iodine intake is getting more of a concern because the major source of iodine used to be bread (dough conditioner with iodine was stopped in the US in the 1970s), dairy (lactose intolerance from eating quick pickles with vinegar instead of fermented pickles which supply lactase excreting lactobacillus to improve Lactose intolerance. Commercial Dairies have wheat, barley and rye added to the cow feed. Some say they are sensitive to milk protein, but it is the gluten added to supplement the cow feed to increase milk production that becomes part of the milk protein causing the problem.  And people use less iodized salt.  In the US intake of iodine dropped 50% from 1970 to 1984. Switch to Grass fed only milk and consider supplementing Liquid Iodine drops to your diet.  The omega 6 to omega 3 ratio of commercial milk is 5:1; Organic milk is 3:1 and grass fed milk is 1:1. The typical western diet is around 14:1, optimum for humans is 1:1.  Wheat flour is 22:1 omega 6:3.  Choose vegetables lower in omega 6, it is inflammatory. Eat fermented foods and switch to Grass fed only milk.  Some say they are sensitive to milk protein, but it is the gluten added to supplement the cow feed to increase milk production that becomes part of the milk protein.

At 41 years old I have been fighting fatigue and joint pain for a couple months.  My family doctor kept saying nothing was wrong but I was insistent that I just didn’t feel right.  Finally after running several blood labs, one came back showing inflammation in my body and I was referred to a rheumatologist.  He was extremely thorough and sat with me and my family for a good hour asking questions and listening. He ordered X-rays of all my joints and more bloodwork.  He suspected some sort of reactive inflammatory arthritis.  My TTG (Tissue Transglutaminase) came back at 34. he told me to try going gluten free and out me on Salfasalzin to help the join inflammation.  Over the next couple days going gluten free and doing a lot of research and talking to people with celiacs,  we found that I should have an upper endoscopy for insurance purposes in the future.  I reached back out to my rheumatologist and expressed this concern and he got back to me stating I was correct and resume regular gluten diet and stop the medication until after that scope.     They were able to schedule me in for 2 days later.  I had been gluten free, or as close to it as I could be for about 5 days.  I know I ate some brats with it but wanted to use them up.  My symptoms had gotten slightly better in those 5 days.  I felt less fatigue and joint pain was slightly better(it had gotten really bad) so for these last 2 days I’ve gone crazy with wheat bread, pasta and such.  I’m hoping those 5 days didn’t screw this endoscopy up.  I can’t imagine after a life of gluten, my intestines healed in 5 days and after eating gluten again for these couple days,  my stomach hurts, joint pain is coming back up so I know the inflammation is there.   Hinesight after this diagnosis, I have had chronic migraines since my late teens.  Has that been a lingering symptom of celiacs all these years?  I’ve never really had the stomach issues, for me it came in heavy these last couple months as the fatigue, just always feeling tired and exhausted.  And the joint pain.     So getting in the car for the 2 hour drive to the hospital for this scope now.     Wish me luck!
