As opposed to back when all I could think about was how cute the graduate student was that was teaching the class.

Turn about is fair play, right?

Bev,

When I was an undergrad, I worked closely with a psychology prof (my major...and later went on to grad school to get my PhD, but got sick with Celiac, decided to "only" get my master. But, I digress.) and one of the classes he taught was a 300+ section of Developmental Psy. He lectured M, W, and on Fridays, we met in individual classes with 25 or so. Taught by a GTA and a UTA. I was a UTA (as a senior). I loved it! I assisted but actually got to teach a couple times, and worked with students. I was only 21 at the time, and some of the students were actually older than me (22-24)...including a couple guys. Ran into some of them at a bar, at 5pm on a Friday, sitting outside with pitchers of Long Island Ice Teas....it was rather amusing. "Yes, I am your TA. And no, I am not sober."

It was so strange!!!! It only got worse in grad school!

Carla- But it's even stranger when you're teaching them in the same room you took YOUR freshamn writing class in and now all you can think about is academic stuff. As opposed to back when all I could think about was how cute the graduate student was that was teaching the class.

LOL I never had cute graduate students teaching classes ... but I did meet my husband at a frat party!

It's weird though because Morgan goes to school where we went. Last weekend I stayed at my old sorority house in the guest room when I went to visit her ... Adam did, too :D, he never stayed there when we were in college!! In orientation we were sitting in one of my old classrooms!

I turned 39 so I am almost old now. It is hard to resist a thread about hot fourty something women.

Oh yes, we are so hot...and flattery will get you everywhere

BTW- do I ahve to go back and read the whole thread first? I'm too old for that. :P

BEV! do you have to go back....hmmmm....let's see....it's not like OMG  there's little scientificness, and I haven't had to send the dingos yet....you can't really get lost.....a recap: we talk about h air, nail polish (do we or don't we polish our fingernails?), movies, hair, boys (er, men, as it were), hair, hot guys, cosmetic treatments, food we eat....embarassing things to buy in the drug store.....I can't really think what else...we just escape from the drama here....ha ha ha h

Dont bother.. it realy does not make any sense... jsut start here and go foward

HEY whadya mean it doesn't make any sense? makes complete sense....deep and profound, all of it ;)

AND PENGUIN'S HERE!!! hi peng-y!! come on in...another ish-ish for the young 'uns.....

Laura, Bev - - I am far too tired to get a master's/doctorate.....getting my (unused) teaching credential nearly sucked the life out of me, and I was young......dear gawd....the horror :o:lol:

 Yay!!! A penguin sighting!!! Puullleeezzzee stay!!

Patti, you dh sounds like a funny guy, although I picture you blushing and ducking, lol. Good that you give it right back!!

Bev, Omg, a trampoline?? Was this before or after the cosmopolitans???

Armetta, I love the idea of cream nailpolish with the French manicure--will have to try that!!!

Mommagoose where are you tonight?? Aren't you home yet??!! Last time I heard you were in MD, near me, so what is next on the agenda?? That sounds like some craaaaazy trip!! You must tell us stories when you return!!

Question: What is the mascara that you all use?? I am having reactions to everything I use anymore. I NEED my mascara!! I have red tipped eyelashes! Help needed!!

(If Vincent, Richard, and Ian chime in on this, I am really gonna worry.......)

CarlaB Enthusiast

I use Great Lash.

Have you tried something like Origins? Their products are more natural. Most eye shadows bother me and there's don't.

Peng-y...she tortures us...flies in briefly on her snowy penguin/cat wings and then leaves us..... :o:lol:

Robbin - - red-tipped lashes? was this a bleaching accident :P Have you tried Ecco Bella? it's sold at Whole Foods and other health stores - I have not tried it but it's supposed to be really pure...I also use Maybelline, no probs.

Ian and Richard and Vincent can feel free to pipe in :D

Ha, my lashes are very blonde, without mascara, you can hardly find my eyes!

Chelsea is worried about being half the age of 40ish. And here I am old enough to be at least the Mother to many or even a grandmother to some. And I am the one who cut her hair so she could spike it - go figure.

I am so grateful that my husband sees things in the same way: he dislikes makeup, and hates pantyhose. Must be his chemistry background--first time he touched my leg when I was wearing hose, he sort of recoiled and said, "Ugh, you have polymer on your legs!"

So if real men don't like make-up, why do so many women wear it?

My husband is DEFINATELY a real man and he likes makeup! He also tells me I'm beautiful when I wake up in the morning, so, he obviously likes me without it, too, but he prefers it when we're going out ... in fact, he likes heavy eye makeup, which I only do when we're really dressed up.

Guest Robbin

:lol: No, lol, I am a redhead under the brown, used to be blond as a kid, so mixed up genes, I guess.

Yeah, what is with that pengy??

I will check out the mascara you mentioned girls, since all the maybelline, lancome, cover girl, l'oreal, etc, tried all of them from the regular stores -make me itch. Really weird too, since I have used Maybelline products for years and years. I think it might be since the eye surgery everything is all out of whack with the eyes.

Hey, did Susan say that she loves Steven Segal??? What??!! Hmm, doesn't seem her type....

Armetta, you look fabulous girlfriend, and I don't care how old you say you are, you are an inspiration and I wish to look half that great and vibrant when I am your age.

I think most men dislike makeup. It is women who usually like to wear it and it is an artistic outlet of sorts, I think.

DingoGirl Enthusiast

Mouse! you should know by now that age doesn't matter here, and perhaps we must barrage penguin with emails???? :P

Makeup. holy Lord, I have shaved my legs, washed my hair in 48-degree water, and put on makeup at 12,000 foot elevation on backpacking trips (I call the makeup my "back country spackle" - - just a touch of coverup and blush for those occasions).....used to be a time in life when I wouldn't get the MAIL wihtout at least lip gloss on.....

oh dear gawd NO, Vincent said he was now obese and....something else? has lost his mind, maybe? can't remember....'twas all a joke.....never liked him.... :o

 Alison, too funny, polymer legs! Some men really are what they work at, huh? My dh is an actuary and always gives me statistical analysis' of things I really could give a bleep about, lol.

Seriously though, girls (and maybe guys  ) You shouldn't wear pantyhose on airplanes because of the melting problem in case of a fire. I read that once somewhere. Scary, huh?

I'm like Liz....a grown-up TOMBOY....I could never deal with nail polish...plus I was always biting my nails off anyway. All I have to say is thank Gaaaaawd I wasnt swallowing them! GROSS! I think I have enough problems already...balls of nails in my tummy....now that would really SUCK! (as if my other stuff doesnt suck )

Yay Rachel! I'm so glad you're here! I mellowed a bit after 30 too, but am still more comfy in sweats and tennies than dresses and heels.

I was at work today and missed all the fun. Now I'm heading to a movie with the family. Have a good weekend everyone!

I own makeup, but I stopped wearing it when I got so sick 3 years ago. So, I don't wear eyeshadow and only put on mascara maybe 5 times a year. Don't wear blush. But, I cheat as my eyebrows and eyeliner is tatooed on. I don't have the eyeliner real thick, but a thin line. They eyebrows started the whole thing. As my eyebrows went gray to match my hair, they grew like a man's would, sticking straight out and untrainable. Eventually I ended up with very little tails and hence the tatooing. It is really great. I am not a sun worshiper and so I have very little fading. I get them touched up every couple of years.

Wait--what movie?? I am going with teens tomorrow to see that Dane Cook movie, "Employee of the Month". Anyone see that one yet? I think it just came out.

My husband doesn't like me to wear makeup either. I don't even have any in the house. I used to use lip gloss but once I ran out I didn't replace it.

Did you ever see that recipe for lip gloss that you use crisco and koolaid? I always wanted to try that with some kids, but my boys didn't much go for it. Go figure. There is a great book you might want to try some of the things with your kids for homeschool. I think it is called Kid Concoctions or something like that, does anyone know that one?

Robbin,

I haven't heard of that.

OMG this is true - never wear man-made fibers, esp. panyhose, on a plane...if there is a fire, huge chance of your clothing melting and burning your skin! :o

SEE.....it's not ALL meaningless fluff here.... ;)

Blech, still feel rotten. Daddy thinks it was food poisoning but I'm not convinced as he and I (the only gluten sensitive ones) are the only people feeling sick out of a group of six, and we all shared the same huge order of nachos (real nachos, not those sad, soggy yellow chips smothered in orange paint)

Right now I'm having my own little pity party as my sister is has a bunch of friends over and the entire house smells like pizza, chinese take out, and chocolate cake (it was her birthday earlier this week, it's kind of like a mini birthday party) :( :( :( I haven't been able to stomach much of anything today.....that pizza smells soo good.....it's really testing my willpower :(

Talking about mascara; I don't ever wear makeup unless I have to. Mum sells Mary Kay so when I must, that's what I use....I've never checked the ingredients but I've never had a reaction either.

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
