I was just watching the CBS evening news and there was a teaser for a story coming on tomorrow night. The teaser went something like this: this whole family has a disease but none of them knew it until little Emily got sick. It's thought a million Americans have it but most of them don't know it yet (end of tease). Chills went down my spine and I usually have excellent instincts so I think the story may be about Celiac. I don't even watch the CBS news so it was a fluke that I had it on. I can't be home tomorrow to watch but I'm going to tape the whole show tomorrow night, just in case I'm right. I'll post back if I'm right or wrong.

I don't even watch the CBS news so it was a fluke that I had it on.

Flukes can happen for a reason...we just happened to be watching MSNBC when Keith Olberman *briefly* mentioned Celiac Disease and put up a website address. We had never heard of it and decided to look it up. Much to our suprise (and shock) it was as if we were reading about our son. We now had a name for what was wrong with him and, better yet, we now had a way to help him get better! :D

I'll be watching, too! How awesome would that be??

Isn't October Celiac Awareness Month? That could make it newsworthy right now.

AndreaB Contributor

I don't have outside tv so keep me posted please.

I guess I could be unlazy and go to their website and see if anything is on there after tomorrow.....but I still wanna know. :)

Sounds like it's worth a look. Thanks for letting us know about it. Is is sapossed to be on the 5pm or 6pm news?

cbs evening news...national news usually comes on at 6:30 (after the 6:00pm local news) Some places it comes on at 7 (those who have full one hour 6:00 local news...but usually that is only in bigger markets)

Well my instincts didn't let me down. Dr. Green had one of his staffers post a listserv notice that CBS will do a story tonight about Celiac on the evening news. I doubt such a segment will be able to be compreshensive but at this point, any publicity is good publicity in my view.

Thank GOD Katie Couric is so in touch with her colon! I haven't watched the CBS evening news since she's been on (I don't generally watch the news dinner/kids time) but I'll make a point to try tonight!

I am trying to find the "listserv" notice that 'floridanative' was referring to. Is it something that can be viewed?

CBS Evening News with Katie Couric will be featuring a segment on celiac disease with Dr. Peter Green tonight at 6:30 pm Eastern Standard Time. Tune in!

Above is just one of the listserv posts about the program tonight. Another group posted about it as well.

par18 - listserv is something you have to subscribe to. It was originally started at John Hopkins University. For tips about dining out most anywhere in the world, this is the site I use. It is an invaluable site for me and it's free.

Thanks. Since the back and forth and promises of review and general stalling went on for more than six months, the credit company will no longer investigate. They have a cutoff of maybe six months.

Is this the same restaurant? https://www.facebook.com/TheHappyTartFallsChurch/ Is it too late to take this up with your credit card company? Normally you have a few months to do a chargeback with them. It seems very odd that they are taking this approach with someone who is likely to be a regular customer--not a good business-minded way of handling things!

Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The good news is that after your gut heals (for most people who are 100% gluten-free this will take several months to two years) you may be able to slowly add some these items back into your diet after the damaged villi heal. This article may be helpful: The most common nutrient deficiencies associated with celiac disease that may lead to testing for the condition include iron, vitamin D, folate (vitamin B9), vitamin B12, calcium, zinc, and magnesium.  Unfortunately many doctors, including my own doctor at the time, don't do extensive follow up testing for a broad range of nutrient deficiencies, nor recommend that those just diagnosed with celiac disease take a broad spectrum vitamin/mineral supplement, which would greatly benefit most, if not all, newly diagnosed celiacs. Because of this it took me decades to overcome a few long-standing issues I had that were associated with gluten ataxia, for example numbness and tingling in my feet, and muscle knots--especially in my shoulders an neck. Only long term extensive supplementation has helped me to resolve these issues.

Absolutely my point with Kerrigan, the owner. She stood to secure many years of faithful patronage by simply inviting us in for a pastry or lunch. Or by simply producing another $50 e-card based on trust. We would have been highly satisfied. We are limited to a few restaurants in the area, and that would have been one. It was very disappointing, esp to my wife, to realize we can't patronize the place anymore.
