Armetta Needs Prayers

Just wanted to let you guys know . . . . Metta broke her arm earlier this week. Because Arizona is getting ready for the "snowbirds", doctors are taking vacations, etc., and she still hasn't been able to see an orthopedic surgeon (they want her to see one that specializes in elbows). IF she has to have surgery, they told her it would be "when they could squeeze her into the schedule". Her advice, don't f***ing retire to Arizona!!!

Therefore, she won't be able to post, answer PM's e-mails, etc... She's having a LOT of trouble with trying to type.

If you want her address, PM me and I'll send it to you . . . . .

In the meantime, though, she needs lots of hugs and prayers sent her way . . . .

Love & Hugs to all,

Lynne

Oh! That is most unfortunate. Poor Armetta, I hope this can be resolved soon. And, what are these "snowbirds" that are causing the delay?

jerseyangel Proficient

Oh no! Poor Armetta :(

Thanks for letting us know, Lynne. :)

Snowbirds = More Mature folks from Northernly locales that travel south (normally Florida, Arizona or So-Cal) for the winter as the cold "disagrees" with them.

Snowbirds make a plethora of Dr. appointments and often crowd the Casinos and buffets :)

Yikes, praying for Armetta.

Oh no :( poor thing (sounds painful :o )

Hope she gets it sorted ASAP and on the road to recovery.

Tell Armetta we are praying for her.

So, what do you call a person from Florida who gets a summer place up north??? That's what my grandmother and grandfather did!! I've always called them "reverse snowbirds", but I don't know if there's a real term for people like them.

oh yeah.....I forgot about those. Thanks for clarifying, I thought it was a sports team for a minute but it is too early for spring training.

I dont know Armetta well, but I am feeling for her pain. I hope she gets this resolved quickly. Darn snowbirds.. I know up here in NJ it gets a lot emptier during those winter months.. once spring arrives the traffic is horrible!!

Please let Armetta know that I am thinking of her also and wishing her a quick recovery

Our thoughts and prayers will be with Armetta as well.

Is she is Arizona? Whereabouts. We are heading to Tucson in a few weeks.

this will be short, as 1 finger typing is the pitts, i fall off of a ladder in the garage, monday morning and missed the bottom step. i was lucky in that, by the time my head hit, i already had other parts of my hitting the concrete floor first. it is cracked right below the joint and that has about a 16 of an inch separation. if they don't need to pin it, then i might be able to get the cast on tomorrow. if a pin is needed, then they have to fit me into their operating schedule.

i do not understand why the snowbirds can't do their medical before they come here and not overload our doctors and hospitals. i am not thinking kindly of those people at this moment.

i am on pain killers big time.

my hubby was angry that i had gotten on the ladder. he has told me for three months, since i have had worsening neuro problems, to stay off of the ladder. he did not think it was broken because i still cooked a 1 handed dinner. he felt i would be crying, etc. if it was broken. i have been married to him for 43 years and he never realized that i have a high pain tolerance - what a dork lol. i have to say that now he has respect for what i have had to indure in the past.

thank you all for the prayers and well wishes. i need the prayers just to get this in a cast.

thank you lynne for caring and posting this.

andrea, we live in a valley far west of phoenix.

Holy cow Armetta--I can't believe you're not even in a cast yet :o This is awful

I didn't realize all the visitors from the north created such a problem with your medical system there. Something is definately wrong with that <_<

I feel like coming down there and going upside someone's head  Painkillers--no, you should be in a cast. I'm sending the best I can--hugs and prayers and positive thoughts that you get seen by the right people very soon.

Take care :)

Do not even consider answering--you need to relax and save your strength ;)

I agree with Patti.

Sounds like you are a bit far away to stop off and visit. :(

Metta! Don't make me come down there and give you a whooping! What the bleeping heck were you doing on a ladder??????? GRRRRR! I'm thinking it has to be your left elbow, as your right elbow is probably has so much strength in it from years of "exercise".........;)B)

Those darn Snowbirds - I mean, c'mon! Booking all these appts? Whaz up with dat?

Do you guys consider only Canadians snowbirds, or also people from the northern states?

Hugs and hope you get it resolved reeeeeel soon!

Hugs.

Yikes Armetta, that doesn't sound good! I understand about the terrible pain a broken bone can cause, I broke my right ankle four and a half years ago, and I was in awful pain for weeks. I hope you get it casted soon, that should help the pain at least a little.

Darn Canadian snowbirds (I can say that, I am German :P , and I LIKE Canadian winters, anyway)!

Make sure you don't hide all the pain, so your husband (friends, neighbours, kids, grandkids) will want to take care of you and pamper you! And don't cook, for heaven's sake, let others do it. It's too complicated with only one arm, and you need rest to heal.

I will pray for you as well.

debmidge Rising Star

Armetta, sorry to hear about the break; hope you get relief soon.

I didn't realize that Snowbirds took going to different doctors so casually; yeah, why don't they visit their home state doctor before taking their extended vacations.....

Karen:

Here in NJ if you are from northern or western NJ and you take a day trip to southeast Jersey by the seashore the seashore residents call you "Bennies" which is a mean slur (although I don't get it....). South Jersey people do not like the residents of their own state using "their" beaches (in many cases they are public beaches however or owned by the State of NJ). You're not a "bennie" if you rent a room or house for a week or more; it's just the daytrippers they don't like (supposedly these daytrippers aren't spending enough money while they are down there for the day - but that's not what I remember when I was daytripping there. We'd go to restaurant, go to board walk and spend a lot of money on rides and snacks, pay for parking, etc. So these towns ARE sharing in the spending wealth. Sometimes you'll see signs that say "Bennies Go Home." - D.

all of your prayers an well wishes must have worked. i don't need it pinned, nor did i need a cast. they put it in a removal splint. this is so neat. they wet this pad and form it to where they want the angle to be and then wrap it in an ace bandage that has a velcro closure. after 2 hours it then hardens and keeps the shape. i am allowed to remove it for showers only, which is awesome.

i have to get another x-ray next friday and then see the doctor the following monday.

he said that we had been putting the ace bandage on and holding the arm in the right postion as it is healing in the proper position.

because of the deep cut i got during the fall, i have to take anti-biotics, which is a pit. it is not infected yet, but he does not want it to.

i am to stay on pain pulls until i don't need them anymore, which i hope is soon.

thank you all for caring.

nikki-uk Enthusiast

Armetta, great you don't need it pinned or need a cast - but still a pain eh? :(

Hope you heal really quick , put your feet up and let your dear hubby do the chores !! :)

jerseyangel Proficient

That's pretty good news Armetta, considering. Take care! :)

Wow, Armetta, glad you were able to get it taken care of so quickly!!!

Welcome @JoJo0611. That is a valid question.  Unfortunately the short answer is slim to none.  Be proactive, when the diagnosis process is completed, start GFD.  Remember also that the western diet is deficient in many nutrients that governments require fortification.  Read the side of a breakfast cereal box. Anti-tTG antibodies has superseded older serological tests It has a strong sensitivity (99%) and specificity (>90%) for identifying celiac disease. A list of symptoms linked to Celiac is below.  No one seems to be tracking it, but I suspect that those with elevated ttg, but not diagnosed with Celiac Disease, are diagnosed with celiac disease many years later or just die, misdiagnosed.  Wheat has a very significant role in our economy and society.  And it is addictive.  Anti-tTG antibodies can be elevated without gluten intake in cases of other autoimmune diseases, certain infections, and inflammatory conditions like inflammatory bowel disease. Transient increases have been observed during infections such as Epstein-Barr virus. Some autoimmune disorders including hepatitis and biliary cirrhosis, gall bladder disease. Then, at 65 they are told you have Ciliac Disease. Milk protein has been connected to elevated levels.   Except for Ireland and New Zealand where almost all dairy cows are grass fed, commercial diaries feed cows TMR Total Mixed Rations which include hay, silage, grains and concentrate, protein supplements, vitamins and minerals, byproducts and feed additives. Up to 80% of their diet is food that cannot be eaten by humans. Byproducts of cotton seeds, citrus pulp, brewer’s grains (wheat and barley, rye, malt, candy waste, bakery waste. The wheat, barley and rye become molecules in the milk protein and can trigger tTg Iga in persons suseptible to Celiac. I can drink Grass fed milk, it tastes better, like the milk the milkman delivered in the 50's.  If I drink commercial or Organic milk at bedtime I wake with indigestion.

Can you please share your research about MMA acrylic containing gluten?   I comin up blank about it containing gluten.  Thanks in Advance,  Tom

I strongly recommend 2 dedicated gluten free (gluten-free) restaurants in my area (East Bay of San Francisco Bay Area) (2025) -- Life is Sweet Bakery and Café in Danville. I've been a few times with friends and tried multiple entrees and salads. All very good and worth having again. I've also tried a number of their bakery goods. All extremely good (not just "good for gluten-free"). https://lifeissweetbakeryandcafe.com/ -- Kitara Kitchen in Albany (they have additional locations). I've been once and had the "Buritto Bowl". Six individual items plus a sauce. Outstanding. Not just "for gluten-free", but outstanding in its own right. Vibrant flavors, great textures. I can't wait to go back. https://www.kitava.com/location/kitava-albany/

I'm 67 and have been celiac for 17yrs. I had cataract surgery and they put a gluten lens in my eye. Through a lot of research, I found out about MMA acrylic...it contains gluten. It took 6 months for me to find a DR that would remove it and replace it with a gluten-free lens . I have lost some vision in that eye because of it . I also go to a prosthodontist instead of a regular dentist because they are specialized. He has made me a night guard and a few retainers with no issues... where my regular dentist didn't care. I have really bad reactions to gluten and I'm extremely sensitive, even to CC. I have done so much research on gluten-free issues because of these Drs that just don't care. Gluten is in almost everything shampoo, lotion, food, spices, acrylic, medication even communion wafers! All of my Drs know and believe me I remind them often.... welcome to my world!

If this applies geographically, in the U.K., physicians will often declare a diagnosis of celiac disease based on the TTG-IGA antibody blood test alone if the score is 10x normal or greater, which your score is. There is very little chance the endoscopy/biopsy will contradict the antibody blood test.
