gluten-free Pizza Delivery In Kansas City!

KellyM

KellyM Newbie

I'm a new poster (but frequent visitor here). Wanted everyone in Kansas City to know (if you don't yet) that Waldo Pizza at 72nd and Wornall now has gluten-free crusts available (supplied by Olivia's Oven, the new gluten-free bakery in town). My understanding is that the owner of Olivia's Oven has worked closely with the owner of Waldo's and his staff to ensure awareness of cross-contamination issues.

I had pizza delivered to my house last night and I was in heaven!! Really delicious.

I'm jealous too. We have Jules here in PA, but their crust isn't very good and their pizzas are VERY pricey... like $20!!

That is VERY cool. I will have to make a point to try to find the place. Do you have to order ahead or do they always have them?

Can you give me some landmark that it is near?

Ohhhh and how much do the pizzas cost?? :) Thanks for posting this!! I am excited.

Sorry for the previous attempt to reply. I'm new at this! Jessica--Waldo Pizza is at 72nd and Wornall in that strip mall where TAnner's is. Are you in Kansas City, MO? Wornall is just a few blocks east of STate Line.

I'm not sure if they always have the crust--I know Olivia's Oven delivers crusts on Fridays, so they are always well stocked for weekends. But I called for delivery on Tuesday night and they had them, too. I think because word hasn't spread yet, they probably have them most of the time.

We got two 13-inch pizzas for $21. I think that was with Waldo's Tuesday coupon--which they will give you if you just ask about it.

Let me know if you need any other info!

75th and Wornall folks!!

We are going there for dinner tonite!!!

Carreen, at Olivia's Oven, is my HERO!!!! Her stuff is SO great, I always have a stash of crusts in my freezer, but there is just something SO different about having them cooked in a pizza oven!! We are having a huge delivery here on Tuesday, gluten-free goodies to take with us to Grandma's for Thanksgiving!!

p.s. if you guys are getting a pizza there and feel the need to get a tattoo... my husbands shop is 8043 wornall.. same side of the road as the pizza place!!! :P

Nope, don't live in KC, however do go up that direction for shopping quite a bit :) Thanks for the great pizza tip. I can't wait to go check it out.

My brother was asking me what I wanted for christmas and I told him "Waldo's pizza" haha Just the thought of having pizza in a real pizza place has me all excited. I'm such a nerd!!

IM EATING THIS RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i cant believe it... it is sooooo amazing!!!!

jayhawkmom Enthusiast

We did end up going there for dinner. I was SOOOOO thrilled!!

We went early, I figured it would be a better way to head off x-contam issues. My daughter kept asking our server if she was sure the crust was really gluten free. It was so cute! She was SO happy when the pizza was set down in front of her. I mean seriously happy!! She took her first bite and screamed, "I LOVE THIS PIZZA!!"

She scarfed down 3 slices!! I haven't seen her eat that much in one sitting in a LONG time.

I agreed with her assessment. I loved the pizza. As I mentioned, I do purchase crusts from Olivia's Oven, but pizza baked in a pizza oven just tastes SOOOOOOO different. It was totally yummy. And, I have a feeling I'm going to become a Waldo Pizza regular!!!

Since I'm not in Missouri I'm not in their delivery area. But, I would have no problem sending DH over there on his way home from work to bring home a pizza every now and then. =) =) =)

pinkpei77 Contributor

is it really bad that i ate the whole pizza by myself????????

jayhawkmom Enthusiast

Nope. It's really not that bad. =) =)

I could have easily eaten the whole thing myself, had I been given the opportunity!

pinkpei77 Contributor

it seriously was so amazing!!

i really thought "this can't be real" the first few bites!!

and then i couldnt stop!!

i think im going to get them on tuesdaYS with the coupon!

my brother lives right by the one in lee's summit and my husband is 3 blocks from the kc one so i think ive got a new favorite!!!

YAYAYAYAYAAAAA!!

I'm so glad you guys like it, too! I always know when something gluten-free really is great when my mom and my husband (non-celiacs) love it, too. And I know what you mean about eating pizza out in a restaurant--it is so different from making it at home (and no clean up!).

pinkpei77 Contributor

im getting this again today !!!! :D:D:D:D

do you know of any other resturants in the kc area that have gluten free resturants

Daniels BBQ has a gluten free menu. We've eaten there once, and were pleased. It's not a nice sit-down restaurant or anything, it's typical KC BBQ fare, but it's yummy!

coleen, its not bad that you ate the whole thing, because you were eating it in honor of the rest of us. So really, you didn't eat that much ;)

I think I might fly out to KC for the night just to eat this magical pizza. My trips are going to be based on where I can eat :)

What are your daily meals? Guilty pleasure snacks? Protein bars? I feel when looking for gluten free foods they are filled with sugar cholesterol. Looking for healthy gluten-free protein bars. Something to fill since sometimes I feel like not to eat anything. Especially if on vacation and unsure of cross contamination I figure go with a salad and protein bar to fill and play it safe.

Unfortunately, there is presently no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out. NCGS is thought to be much more common than celiac disease. We know that celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder but the mechanism of NCGS is less clear. Both call for an elimination of gluten from the diet.

Thanks for your reply Trents…most appreciated.  I am unfamiliar with celiac labs terminology so I wanted to know if the presence of HLA variants (DA:101, DA:105, DQB1:0301 and DQB1:0501) that the labs detected had any merit in predisposing one to be more sensitive to gluten/carbs than the general population?  Also,  I found what you said about NCGS very interesting and I appreciate you mentioning that.  I’ve worked hard to research and advocate for myself with my Hematologist and now with a new GI, since my bowel surgery and to maintain my Vitamin B12 health concurrent with keeping my levels of Iron in the optimal range. I’ve been tested for SIBO (do not have it), biopsy showed negative for HPylori, and have had Fecal studies done (nothing showed up) and I understand how a loss of a large amount of bowel could be highly impacting re: SIBO, malabsorption and motility issues. So I’ve managed pretty well diet and elimination-wise until just recently. That said, this new problem with extreme bloating, distention and upper girth, NAFLD just occured over the last 4 months so it is new for me and I thought celiac might be a possible issue. I’ll probably just continue on in this less gluten/carbs seem to be better for me and see how reintroducing certain foods go.  Thanks again.

Thanks bumped it up and now take all 3 vitamins 2 capsules each with the super b complex at breakfast. I will give it some time to see if I notice a difference. I am going to track my eating daily diary on a myfitness pal app to see if the "claimed" gluten free foods bother me or not.

Please can anyone help. I was diagnosed on 23rd December and I am trying my best to get my head around all the things to look out for. I have read that yeast extract is not to be eaten by coeliacs. Why? And is this all yeast extract. Or is this information wrong. Thanks.
