New Board Features

Scott had a great suggestion--we have this nice new board with lots of features that some of us may not be familiar with.

I know I have a few questions--one being about the spell-check. I'm also wondering about the "friends" feature.

Ask away--let's all help each other figure this thing out :D

This is a great idea!

I have one question, which regards viewing new posts. So far, I only know how to access *all* the new posts. But I don't know how to get to a listing of new posts in only those threads that I have a discussion going it. Sometimes I don't have time to check all the new threads, and there are a few discussions that I have lost track of, don't know how to find again, but would like to see if anyone has contributed something that I missed. Is there such a feature? Does anyone know?

There is a little box next to the topic, that you can click on to see the new posts , something like "last known view", it was there before the changes....You can see your last known view.

Some cool new features...... Great work Scott!

Just wondering: I can't see now as I am reading threads whether a particular person is "on" or not - is that taken away?

Thanks!

Karen

this is a good idea...what's up with the blog section?

Rachel--24 Collaborator

I'm having problems editing my posts....its just not working for me??

Anyone else??

When I hit "complete edit" nothing happens. It takes me back to the thread but my post is not edited and it actually still has my text box for editing on the thread??

Why is this happening? If I hit "cancel edit" it will return to normal...but of course nothing is edited. :(

How can I go back and review old threads or posts?? For example if I wanted to locate info. from an older thread I had....I could go into my topics or my posts and find all the older threads or posts. Now I can only view my most recent??

Is there an easier way to go about this or do I have to do a search to bring up older topics???

EDIT:

Nevermind...I figured it out. :)

You can access the members topics and posts in their profile...click on options...its now located on the left side of the page.

Scott Adams Grand Master

Hello Rachel,

If you figured it out please share it here with others who might have the same question. The last of the updates are finished and I will look into the edit issue--are others having this issue? My thought is that you if are having issues you may need to clear your cookies out and log back in.

Ok - I just edited this post using the "Full Edit" feature so it looks like that works.

Update--Last night I complete the final upgrade on the board's database that is supposed to speed things up. Sorry it was down again but the upgrade is now completed.

Take care,

Scott

Karen,

You can still see if a person is online. There is now a little head next to a person's name. If it is lit up that person is on.

The friends feature also tell you who of your friends is on at the time and puts all your friends at your fingertips for pm'ing (like the old system).

I haven't really explored too much.

Oh good--I thought that's what the little head meant.

Thanks, Andrea, I was wondering what those little guys were about, and why some of them were in colour, and some weren't.

Hey, I read on some boards that have a "voting/poll" mechanism. Something where you can do something like

"What brand of gluten free InsertProductHere do you like best?"

Product 1

Product 2

Product 3

Logged in memebers can vote, and it then shows a nice graph of the results.

I know those boards use the same system as this one, or at least it basically looks the same. I just don't know anything about how to make that work...

Any one see this before?

You can create a poll by first selecting "New Topic" and then clicking on:

Poll Options Click here to manage this topic's poll

From there you can set up your poll. I believe that this was an option prior to the upgrade as well, but it is seldom used here. You should try it out! :)

Groovy, it was probably sitting right there in front of my face all along.

Rachel--24 Collaborator

The poll feature was already here....but you're right Michelle....noone has been using it lately.

I always enjoyed the polls. :)

How come I have to log in everytime I come back on?? I never had to do this before....I was always logged in and it stayed that way.

Now I have to go through the process each time I come to the board. Anyone else experiencing this? How can I fix it?

Not me.. Isn't there a box to check to remember your log in password. Try that.

I'm remaining logged in. Had you been here earlier today? The board was unavailable earlier this morning again due to some more upgrade work...I did have to log in again after the work was done, but not since.

I've remained loggged in throughout all the board maintanence. But a couple of weeks ago, I had to suddenly sign in--I don't know why--and then just as suddenly, didn't have to anymore.

I didn't do anything either time, so I'm not sure what the problem could be.

I also have to log in every time now. Never had to before, this site is saved to favorites and I would just click on that. Now, despite checking the box that says "remember me," I have to lot in every time! I am also wondering if it can be fixed?

Not an expert, but might it have something to do with cookies? ('tis the season)

I haven't had any problems staying logged in....but I haven't been on much since the re-do.

OMG....cookies.....everyone has tried to explain cookies to me, and I still don't know what they are. And why are they called COOKIES?????

Susan...its still happening to me too. :( My box is checked and I still have to log in. Its not every time now.....its improved slightly so that now its occurring sort of randomly.

All I know about "cookies" is that I cant eat them anymore.

I never had to log in before the board changes.

Scott, I agree with everything you said except the term "false negative". It should be a "true negative" just plain negative. I actually looked up true/false negative/positive as it pertains to testing. The term "false negative" would be correct if you are positive (have anti-bodies) and the test did not pick them up. That would be a problem with the "test" itself. If you were gluten-free and got tested, you more than likely would test "true" negative or just negative. This means that the gluten-free diet is working and no anti-bodies should be present. I know it sounds confusing and if you don't agree feel free to respond.

I realized it is actually important to get an official diagnosis because then insurance can cover bone density testing and other lab work to see if any further damage has been done because of it. Also, if hospitalized for whatever reason, I have the right to gluten-free food if I am officially celiac. I guess it gives me some legal protections. Plus, I have 4 kids, and I really want to know. If I really do have it then they may have increased risk.

Been off this forum for years. Is it that important that you get an official diagnosis of something? It appears like you had a trigger (wheat, gluten, whatever) and removing it has resolved your symptom. I can't speak for you, but I had known what my trigger was (gluten) years before my diagnosis I would just stay gluten-free and get on with my symptom free condition. I was diagnosed over 20 years ago and have been symptom free only excluding wheat, rye and barley. I tolerate all naturally gluten free whole foods including things like beans which actually helps to form the stools.

No coincidence. Recent revisions to gluten challenge guidelines call for the daily consumption of at least 10g of gluten (about the amount in 4-6 slices of wheat bread) for a minimum of 3 weeks. If possible, I would extend that two weeks to ensure valid testing.
    • SilkieFairy
Thank you both for the replies. I decided to bring back gluten so I can do the blood test. Today is Day #2 of the Challenge. Yesterday I had about 3 slices of whole wheat bread and I woke up with urgent diarrhea this morning. It was orange, sandy and had the distinctive smell that I did not have when I was briefly gluten free. I don't know if it's a coincidence, but the brain fog is back and I feel very tired.
