Celiac And Chicken Pox

10 kids at DD's school have come down with chicken pox-all had been inoculated! DD is feeling yucky today and the nurse mentioned it and wants us to keep an eye out. Now I'm worried about my little celiac. She has not been inoculated yet, but apparently that wouldn't even matter. My question is are there additional concerns with her if DD brings chicken pox home from school?

I wouldn't think there would be any extra concerns for a Celiac. Just make sure that the medication you use on her skin is gluten free.

Thanks! I finally got a hold of her ped and he said the same thing. I'm just paranoid about everything these days.

Hey, I would've been on here asking the same question. Better to play it safe, then to be sorry. At least now you know and you can relax a little bit. :)

Over half our elementary school came down with chicken pox last year. The principal refused to say how many kids were affected, and downplayed and hushed up the whole thing. I only found out how many there were at one point because the county health nurse called to follow up on our son, and I asked her point-blank how many kids SHE knew about from our school, and it was nearly half--and she said she thought that it was about the middle of the epidemic.

FeedIndy,

Its ok :) We all worry about every single little thing, too. As with most other sicknesses, the main thing to be careful of is ingredients in meds. But if your little one is adhering to a strict gluten-free diet and has no known complications, they *should* be just normal little ones!

I have other health issues now, but before that, when I was "only" (haha) a Celiac, that I was just as healthy as anyone else ... that my body was just like anyone elses....as long as there is no gluten. If there is gluten....watch out ;). The "neat" thing about Celiac is that its one of the few autoimmune disorders that are, for the most part, 100% managable. If we don't have gluten, life (usually) is good!

Here's hoping to no chix pox!!!

you may not want to soak them in non-gluten-free oatmeal. sounds gross i know, but i took many oatmeal baths when i had chicken pox. of course, that was over 20 years ago when i didn't know what celiac was.

my little one has the chicken pox right now. she had the vacine 2 years ago. oh well, she doesn't have a very bad case of them and does not act sick at all. but, we did have to cancel her dental work that was supposed to be done on wed.

My two Celiac, non-vaccinated kids had very mild cases of chicken pox.

Chicken pox is a virus that over taxes the liver at flushing out the toxins. When the liver can no longer handle flushing the toxins, the body uses the next best organ for flushing out the toxins - the skin.

So I've been dealing with chasing the name celiac because of my body actively dealing with health issues related to celiac though not eating. Diagnosed in 1994 before foods eliminated from diet. After 25 years with former pcp I googled celiac specialist and she wasn't because of what ive been through. I wanted my results to be sent to my pcp but nothing was sent.I have email copies.I did one zoom call with np with team member from celiac specialist in Nov 2025 and she asked me why I wanted to know why I wanted the celiac diagnosis so bad, I sad I don't, its my life and I need revalidaion because its affecting me.KB stated well it shows you are.I asked then why am I going through all this.I was labeled unruly. Its been a celiac circus and medical has caused anxiety and depression no fault to my own other than being born with bad genetics. How is it legal for medical professionals to gaslight patients that are with an ailment coming for help to be downplayed? KB put in my records that she personally spent 120min with me and I think the zoom call was discussing celiac 80 min ONE ZOOM call.SHE is responsible for not explaining to my pcp about celiac disease am I right?

I've noticed with my age and menopause my smell for bread gives me severe migraines and I know this. Its alarming that there are all these fabulous bakeries, sandwich places pizza places popping up in confined areas.Just the other day I suffered a migraine after I got done with my mri when a guy with a brown paper bag walk in front of me and I smelled that fresh dough bread with tuna, I got a migraine when we got home.I hate im that sensitive. Its alarming these places are popping up in airports as well.I just saw on the news that the airport ( can't remember which  one)was going to have a fabulous smelling bakery. Not for sensitive celiacs, this can alter their health during their travel which isn't safe. More awareness really NEEDS to be promoted, so much more than just a food consumption!FYI I did write to Stanislaus to let them know my thoughts on the medical field not knowing much about celiac and how it affects one.I also did message my gi the 3 specialist names that was given on previous post on questions on celiac. I pray its not on deaf door.
