This is really two different topics... But has anyone had any trouble after eating Lundbergs BBQ Rice chips? I get a feeling that everytime I eat them I don't feel right, I get those stomach cramps... I am wondering if there is something else in those chips that bother others that I should take a look at.

Also, regarding Mozzerella Cheese, has anyone had any trouble with the Precious brand? Their website says they don't use gluten but can't guarantee that all their ingredients are safe... so I am thinking I should not touch it.

Last, I just replaced all my Costco/Kirkland/ products that I use since I can't seem to get clarification on whether they are safe or not.

Lactase Enzymes (Lactaid Replacement), Natural Fiber Laxative (Metamucil replacement), Kirkland Ibuprofin, and Kirkland brand of Immodium.

Some of these are manufactured by Accumed and their website doesn't work so I can't send an email, but thought maybe someone else has checked these out. They are much cheaper (what a medicine cabinet... how did I look with all that stuff in my cart :huh:

I have been having a bad week so I am trying to look at all the details of my diet ... I do just fine if I don't eat but then I get hungry :blink:

I don't know that brand of cheese but have never found a mozzarella that has gluten. Their statement is the standard CYA. I'd eat the cheese without hesitation.

Hi Cynbd......sorry a slow response. My computer at home is broken and I'm finally at the library. I LOVE those Lundberg chips. I quit eating them, for now, because they have yeast in them and yeast seems to still bother me at this point so I am avoiding it. Might you have a problem with yeast? Angel :rolleyes:

Hm, I haven't really considered yeast. I was thinking maybe 'soy'... When you say yeast, do you mean that you have a reaction to 'yeast' in foods? Or, are you talking about yeast -->intestinal overgrowth --> candida? Or is it the same thing?

I have to say, I have eaten gluten-free breads and I never feel quite right after I eat them, including bread I have made.

I didn't feel right after I ate Pamela's Wheat Free bread mix, and yesterday I made a loaf of Gluten Free Pantry bread mix, and I have been suffering since yesterday with D and bad cramps. I know that Gluten Free Pantry has milk in it, and I did take Lactaid with it -- also, I find that my lactose intolerance resolves itself more quickly than a gluten attack, so I am not thinking that milk was it - and I can eat some cheeses, and other products like Envirokids rice bars... without a problem.

Today, I have had a little cramping but I life goes on, so I had two Vans Waffles and a Bannana and ran to the bathroom within an hour after eating it.

SO -- I am either getting extremely sensitive to cc somehow (and I am trying to be extremely careful all the time) or something else is getting to me.

Arghhh...

YES YES YES.. I finally realized those stupid BBQ Lundberg chips have been making me ill for the past 2-3 months. I always suspected other items because it said "gluten-free" right on the bag and Lundberg was a 'trusted' company.

Every time I ate those chips, I would get said cramps (exactly 1 hr later, it seems) and loose stools. Then the rest of the gluten-reaction followed from there. I've yet to have a noticeable reaction from other LB chips, but I'm wary to buy any others since I just learned they are all processed on lines that also handle gluten!! In my book, shared lines + cramps/bloating/gluten-nausea DOES NOT EQUAL gluten free.

I hope you feel better soon. It's so depressing how one or two bad products can make you feel so bad for so long.

Hi Cynbd....I'm at the library again and just saw your question. I don't know for sure if the yeast overgrowth stuff is the same or not but I'm figuring that it is and not taking my chances. When I eat stuf with yeast in it, I get gas extroidanaire and also the amplified "pinball gut" effect......does anybody

know what I mean about pinball machine in my gut? I get it with ingesting gluten too but with yeast I

might not have the big D. Weird. I have also found that too much soy bothers me as well or as least I'm thinking that's what it is when I eat too much peanut butter. I generally stay away from most soy stuff since I know where it comes from and it's not really as healthy as the food sellers would lead you to believe plus I have hypothyroid and take Synthroid for it and have heard that too much soy isn't good for that either. Sheeeeeeesh! I's always something. I hope this isn't typed too badly....I forgot to bring my reading glasses to the library.

I am starting to think about this whole yeast overgrowth thing though. I find if I eat candy I don't feel very well if I eat too much of it, or have it a couple days in a row, and it seems that sugar feeds it according to what I have read.... and I guess these Lundberg rice chips will do it too.

I really don't like to think about the yeast thing because that seems to cancel out just about everything else I can eat... and I have already lost so much weight that I am counting calories everyday to make sure I am getting enough. I have gone from a size 10 to a size 2.... But I am slowly trying to get my brain around it all.

It could be the soy... I have suspected that too and tend to stay away from it. One night I had some fresh salmon, brocolli with a soy dressing and got D and vomiting... so I did think about the soy in the chips, but that doesn't account for Pamelas Wheat Free bread mix, which doesn't have soy in it.

And -- I could say perhaps I was cc at home, BUT it seems too coincidental that every time I eat those Lundberg Chips I feel bad, and right away too.

I want to try Pamelas again just to see, but I am a little skiddish, I can't seem to purposely want to invite the pingpong ball aliens in.. funny I keep waiting for a good time to try it... like a good time is when I won't mind throwing up or spending the afternoon in the loo with a bucket and a good book... <_<

eesh, it doesn't get better than that does it? :blink:

Just my two cents. I've tried the chips twice and both times I got sick but I can eat the rice cakes and rice without a problem....interesting a lot of people get sick from them too!

This is an old thread from last year, but I and my kids had symptoms this week after eating the Lundberg BBQ flavored chips. I have had problems with them in the past, but I had other intolerances at the time and assumed that was the cause.

In my case, the kids were getting bored with what we were eating at home....I found myself looking at the bag label again thinking, "it says gluten free."

My oldest son (7) is having a hard time healing from Celiac. It's stuff like this that drives me crazy. Foods that make gluten free claims should have to back them up. If I have any of the chips tested, I will post results here - I would be happy to report that they came out clean. Then at least we would know whether we are all suffering from some other intolerance/strange reaction when we eat the chips...

I know this is an old thread, but I'd like to chime in.

I've been eating Lundberg flavored rice chips for the past two weeks, and have felt absolutely drained. Exhausted. Stools have not been stellar either. Gave them up a couple days ago and feel back to my old self again. If this is a gluten reaction, it would be the first one I've noticed ( I've never challenged ). I guess it could be something else in the chips, but I'm not sure what.

They were so good too...

I've eaten 3 types of lundberg chips and got cramps etc. I switched to riceworks and they bothered me as well, I found out brown rice really gives me cramps and bloating. Brown rice is in a lot of gluten-free foods.

      I had the same thing happen to me at around your age, and to this day it's the most painful experience I've ever had. For me it was the right side of my head, above my ear, running from my nerves in my neck. For years before my outbreak I felt a tingling sensation shooting along the exact nerves that ended up exactly where the shingles blisters appeared. I highly recommend the two shot shingles vaccine as soon as your turn 50--I did this because I started to get the same tingling sensations in the same area, and after the vaccines I've never felt that again.  As you likely know, shingles is caused by chicken pox, which was once though of as one of those harmless childhood viruses that everyone should catch in the wild--little did they know that it can stay in your nervous system for your entire life, and cause major issues as you age.

      Thanks for the info. I recently moved to CA from Wyoming and in that western region the Costco and Sam's /Walmart Brands have many nuts and more products that are labeled gluten free. I was told it's because those products are packaged and processed  in different  plants. Some plants can be labeled  gluten free because the plant does not also package gluten products and they know that for example the trucks, containers equipment are not used to handle wheat, barely or Rye. The Walmart butter in the western region says gluten free but not here. Most of The Kirkland and Members Mark brands in CA say they are from Vietnam. That's not the case in Wyoming and Colorado. I've spoken to customer service at the stores here in California. They were not helpful. I check labels every time I go to the store. The stores where I am are a Sh*tshow. The Magalopoly grocery chain Vons/Safeway/Albertsons, etc. are the same. Fishers and Planters brands no longer say gluten free. It could be regional. There are nuts with sugar coatings and fruit and nut mixes at the big chains that are labeled gluten free but I don't want the fruit or sugar.  It's so difficult I am considering moving again. I thought it would be easier to find safe food in a more populated area. It's actually worse.  I was undiagnosed for most of my life but not because I didn't try to figure it out. So I have had all the complications possible. I don't have any spare organs left.  No a little gluten will hurt you. The autoimmune process continues to destroy your organs though you may not feel it. If you are getting a little all the time and as much as we try we probably all are and so the damage is happening. Now the FDA has pretty much abandoned celiacs. There are no requirements for labeling for common allergens on medications. All the generic drugs made outside the US are not regulated for common allergens and the FDA is taking the last gluten free porcine Thyroid med, NP Thyroid, off the market in 2026. I was being glutened by a generic levothyroxin. The insurance wouldn't pay for the gluten free brand any longer because the FDA took them all off their approved formulary. So now I am paying $147 out of pocket for NP Thyroid but shortly I will have no safe choice. Other people with allergies should be aware that these foreign generic pharmaceutical producers are using ground shellfish shell as pill coatings and anti-desicants. The FDA knows this but  now just waits for consumers to complain or die. The take over of Wholefoods by Amazon destroyed a very reliable source of good high quality food for people with allergies and for people who wanted good reliably organic food. Bezos thought  he could make a fortune off people who were paying alot for organic and allergen free food by substituting cheap brands from Thailand. He didn't understand who the customers were who were willing to pay more for that food and why. I went from spending hundreds to nothing because Bezo removed every single trusted brand that I was buying. Now they are closing Whole foods stores across the country. In CA, Mill Valley store (closed July 2025) and the National Blvd. store in West Los Angeles (closed October 2025). The Cupertino store will close.  In recent years I have learned to be careful and trust no one. I have been deleberately glutened in a restaurant that was my favorite (a new employee). The Chef owner was not in the kitchen that night. I've had  a metal scouring pad cut up over my food.The chain offered gluten free dishes but it only takes one crazy who thinks you're a problem as a food fadist. Good thing I always look. Good thing they didn't do that to food going to a child with a busy mom.  I give big tips and apologize for having to ask in restaurants but mental illness seem to be rampant. I've learn the hard way.          I don't buy any processed food that doesn't say gluten free.  I am a life long Catholic. I worked for the Church while at college. I don't go to Church anymore because the men at the top decided Jesus is gluten. The special hosts are gluten less not gluten free. No I can't drink wine after people with gluten in their mouth and a variety of deadly germs. I have been abandoned and excluded by my Church/Family.  Having nearly died several times, safe food is paramount. If your immune system collapses as mine did, you get sepsis. It can kill you very quickly. I spent 5 days unconscious and had to have my appendix and gall bladder removed because they were necrotic. I was 25. They didn't figure out I had celiac till I was 53. No one will take the time to tell you what can happen when your immune system gets overwhelmed from its constant fighting the gluten and just stops. It is miserable that our food is processed so carelessly. Our food in many aspects is not safe. And the merging of all the grocery chains has made it far worse. Its a disaster. Krogers also recently purchased Vitacost where I was getting the products I could no longer get at Whole Foods. Kroger is eliminating those products from Vitacost just a Bezos did from WF. I am looking for reliable and certified sources for nuts. I have lived the worst consequences of the disease and being exposed unknowingly and maliciously. Once I was diagnosed I learned way more than anyone should have to about the food industry.  I don't do gray areas. And now I dont eat out except very rarely.  I have not eaten fast food for 30 years before the celiac diagnosis. Gluten aside..... It's not food and it's not safe.  No one has got our backs. Sharing safe food sources is one thing we can do to try to be safe.
