Keeper/mooncup

Well, I just looked up the Diva Cup and you have to remove it for sex, so I'd rather try the Instead, since leaving it in seems like such a cool possibility!

TRIED IT.

It works for the regular purpose...but as for the intimate activity...NOPE. Mess. I may try once more some other month.

Just wanted to update this thread.. I've now had my 3rd cycle with the Diva Cup. This month, I ended up cutting the stem entirely off because it still kept bothering me. But, I really did love not having to deal with pads and tampons again. Once, it was a bit messy because I let it get too full on my heaviest day. Thank goodness I was at home.

I've used the Keeper, The Diva Cup and Instead, and I love the Diva Cup the most!

I didn't like the instead at all, too easy to come unsealed and have an accident (One time I sneezed and.. whoosh! )

The Keeper and Diva Cup are of the same design, you can't have sex with them in like with instead, but They are eaiser (once you get the hang of it) to manuver around.

I perfer the diva because it is silicone, rather than rubber. I think it has more to do with appearances and how the Keeper changes color a little bit after time.

As far as cleaning and emptying it, I really never have to change it in public, It's good for 12+ hours for me. I have lighter periods, and the design makes it because the fluid dosen't have access to air, it dosen't start to grow the germies that are dangerous in tampons. I have found that emptying it in the shower is easiest for me, but I'm a big girl with short stubby fingers  I also use the Nuva Ring, and some days it gets crowded in there!

Oh, also as an aside, there is some controversy over the use of keeper/diva/mooncup with an IUD, I know of a woman who IUD expelled... she thinks its from the Cup, others use it just fine. That is one of those things that is unproven, but still a concideration in my mind.

I think Instead is just too flimsy and not a good design to be a reliable barrier in sex. One mistep and it shifts and WHOOSH!

I'm on month 2 with the Diva cup, and I think I'm getting the hang of it better this time. Cutting off the stem definitely made a big difference, and I think doing more Kegels this month has helped too. Definitely a big improvement over tampons - I LOVE that I can leave it in for several hours on my heaviest days without leaks!

As for the IUD issue - the Instead package says not to use it if you have an IUD, but the Diva cup says it's fine. I have an IUD and haven't noticed any problems so far.

My only problem this month is that I have a cold, and every time I cough or blow my nose I can feel the darn thing. But otherwise I'm very happy with it.

Now I'm just wondering how to go about recommending it to my friends. ("Hey, guess what? I found this great alternative to tampons!")

I wish I had known about this stuff years ago. Your friends might be thrilled. Maybe you could just send a link with some innocuous message like "Someone recommended this to me and it's really great"

Seriously...I'm 25 and I've never even heard of this concept!

I checked out the Diva Cup and the Instead online and found stores locally that carry it. I'm SO giving it a try!

:lol: I have told a couple of friends about it simply because periods came up in conversation. I sent the link to the one that was most interested in it.

Funny to say, but DH didn't even know I was at "that time of the month" this time until it was nearly over.

Jeanne ~ glad that this month was easier for you now that the stem is gone!

Sunny ~ I think I'll try to empty it in the shower next time on my heaviest days. Why didn't I think of that?! THanks!

Okay, I finally have got around to trying my Mooncup (the silicone version of the Keeper). I had to cut the stem a couple of times and I think it's the right length now. But, I am so raw from taking the thing out a few times and having the stem irritate me that I've gone back to tampons for the rest of my cycle. I have no problem putting it in, but man it's like giving birth (not that I would know) to take it out. I must be really sensitive and maybe small?! I haven't given up because it worked really well inside me, I just need to recuperate before I try it again.

By the way, the shower idea worked great.

sorry for bumping such an old thread but omg....why do people like these? LOL

I just got the Lady Cup (same concept as Diva cup) and wow talk about crazy suction and impossible removal (seriously, I think it's actually impossible to remove it - haven't succeeded yet, and I really don't feel like spending the rest of my day attempting - it might just have to be stuck forever  )

I have both a Diva cup and a Lunette, and I like the Lunette MUCH better. It has bigger holes and therefore a lot less suction, so you might give it a try. I learned about the Lunette when a friend clued me in to this website:

There a comparison of different brands at

I'll admit that it took some getting used to, but now I love it - it's so nice not to have to worry about changing tampons all day!

I think the one I got is similar to Lunette in terms of size, but the problem is it's so small and short it's hard to reach. The bigger holes sound nice though - the amount of suction on mine is just ridiculous. LOL. I spent too much money to give up on it just yet though. Will keep attempting.

It cracks me up that so many people create online journals and websites all about their cups. These things must be really amazing once you get the hang of them. I really hope I can figure out how to remove mine one day.

I tried the Instead years ago. Within 15 minutes I thought I was gonna pass out. I was driving and had to pull over and take it out barehanded. A flood of relief came over me. I mentioned this to my Gyno on my next visit and he said that some women have a nerve on their cervix that when stimulated makes them feel lightheaded. And all those years I wondered why I felt as if I would pass out after a gyno exam. I never said anything because I thought it was psychological. Anyway, they dont work for me.

What are your daily meals? Guilty pleasure snacks? Protein bars? I feel when looking for gluten free foods they are filled with sugar cholesterol. Looking for healthy gluten-free protein bars. Something to fill since sometimes I feel like not to eat anything. Especially if on vacation and unsure of cross contamination I figure go with a salad and protein bar to fill and play it safe.

Unfortunately, there is presently no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out. NCGS is thought to be much more common than celiac disease. We know that celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder but the mechanism of NCGS is less clear. Both call for an elimination of gluten from the diet.

Thanks for your reply Trents…most appreciated.  I am unfamiliar with celiac labs terminology so I wanted to know if the presence of HLA variants (DA:101, DA:105, DQB1:0301 and DQB1:0501) that the labs detected had any merit in predisposing one to be more sensitive to gluten/carbs than the general population?  Also,  I found what you said about NCGS very interesting and I appreciate you mentioning that.  I’ve worked hard to research and advocate for myself with my Hematologist and now with a new GI, since my bowel surgery and to maintain my Vitamin B12 health concurrent with keeping my levels of Iron in the optimal range. I’ve been tested for SIBO (do not have it), biopsy showed negative for HPylori, and have had Fecal studies done (nothing showed up) and I understand how a loss of a large amount of bowel could be highly impacting re: SIBO, malabsorption and motility issues. So I’ve managed pretty well diet and elimination-wise until just recently. That said, this new problem with extreme bloating, distention and upper girth, NAFLD just occured over the last 4 months so it is new for me and I thought celiac might be a possible issue. I’ll probably just continue on in this less gluten/carbs seem to be better for me and see how reintroducing certain foods go.  Thanks again.

Thanks bumped it up and now take all 3 vitamins 2 capsules each with the super b complex at breakfast. I will give it some time to see if I notice a difference. I am going to track my eating daily diary on a myfitness pal app to see if the "claimed" gluten free foods bother me or not.

Please can anyone help. I was diagnosed on 23rd December and I am trying my best to get my head around all the things to look out for. I have read that yeast extract is not to be eaten by coeliacs. Why? And is this all yeast extract. Or is this information wrong. Thanks.
