Always Blue, Are You?

After being gluten free for 3.5 months, our son is still so very blue and is having a hard time seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. He continues to have intense, sporadic cramping and just feels awful all day long. How many of you have had emotional problems? Did they get better as the gluten was removed and the intestine healed? We know his antibodies are coming down, but we don't see much change in him. What are some strategies for lifting spirits and bringing hope into the picture?

Gosh, that's just awful. I wish I could offer something more helpful than this "hope it get's better soon" message. I read your previous post regarding all you've been through. There's way more going on there than I know anything about.

I saw immediate improvement, but didn't have any comparable symptoms to his. Keep up the good work.

Your son may be suffering from candidiasis, which is a yeast overgrowth. It causes a myriad of symptoms, including emotional symptoms. Risk factors include the use of antibiotics, overuse of antacids, and a high sugar diet. It's not always easy to test for, but you could try to have him tested. A product that a lot of people use is called Threelac, which is a probiotic. I use HLC Intensive probiotics. There are pharmaceutical products also like Nystatin, but I prefer to go the natural route. Anyway it's something to think about. I hope your son feels better. Good luck

      Yarrow Pom works really well with the skin issues I found out.I had to stop so my doterra because dealing with medical celiac circus. I had shingles in Feb 2023. Prayers for healing

      I hope you are on the mend soon. About 1 in 5 people who contracted chicken pox as a child go on to develop shingles in later life - it is not uncommon. There are 5 known members of the herpes virus family including chicken pox that commonly infect humans, and they all cause lifelong infections. The exact cause of viral reactivation as in the case of shingles or cold sores is not well understood, but stress, sunburn and radiotherapy treatment are known triggers. Some of the herpes viruses are implicated in triggering autoimmune diseases: Epstein-Barr virus is suspected of triggering multiple sclerosis and lupus, and there is a case where it is suspected of triggering coeliac disease. As to whether coeliac disease can increase the likelihood of viral reactivation, there have been several cohort studies including a large one in Sweden suggesting that coeliac disease is associated with a moderate increase in the likelihood of developing shingles in people over the age of 50.       BFree bread is fortified with vitamins and minerals as is ASDA own-brand gluten-free bread. All the M&S bread seems to be fortified also.
