So here is my first "in need" post on this thread:

My son's friend Noah, age 8 1/2, is STILL in terrible trouble.

He has been in a medically induced coma since Labor Day because of encephalitis-caused seizures. The latest cat scans show extensive brain damage. They are still unable to bring him out of the coma without further seizures.

I am not sure what to ask for here--maybe visualizing his brain tissue recovering against all odds? Seizures ending? His opening his eyes, smiling, and hugging his parents?

Prayers?

Our family--and our whole community--is heartbroken. And that's gotta be nothing compared to what his family is going through.

I was wondering how Noah was doing... I'm :( to read your post. He and his family, the medical staff, and your family continue to be in my prayers also.

Alison, I will pray for Noah right now.

I could sure use prayer. Things are deteriorating here at home, it is getting unbearable for Susie and me.

Her vice principal in charge of her at school is a complete jerk, and her and my husband are getting to be great buddies, which is very upsetting to Susie and me. They seem to be doing everything they can to make life miserable for Susie, who doesn't deserve that, she is a sweet kid.

I am glad that she is going to move to live with her older sister and her family in February (our second-oldest, ten years older than Susie), for her sake. But her being gone will make things harder for me.

Anyway, I won't go into more detail than that. But I am at the end of my rope.

I don't suppose it would help if Susie were to smile and pretend to agree with your husband and the vice principal? Just until February? Sort of as a survival thing...

Ursa, im so sorry things are that bad. Is there a way you can just leave your hubby and you and susie go live with your oldest dtr.

I am also in need for thoughts for 2 reasons.

1. that this family can come into agreement on mnay issues and that i have the strngbth to keep supporting my husband, this week has been very difficult on us both.

2. my uncle(the one that had cancer a few months back) got bit by an brown recluse, he had it drained but it gbot p%$#@# again and posion puss was coming out of his ears. They are doing an mri on him today, they dotn feel they can operate cause the poison has spread to far. I am so worried for him.

      Scott, I agree with everything you said except the term "false negative". It should be a "true negative" just plain negative. I actually looked up true/false negative/positive as it pertains to testing. The term "false negative" would be correct if you are positive (have anti-bodies) and the test did not pick them up.       I realized it is actually important to get an official diagnosis because then insurance can cover bone density testing and other lab work to see if any further damage has been done because of it. Also, if hospitalized for whatever reason, I have the right to gluten-free food if I am officially celiac. I guess it gives me some legal protections. Plus, I have...

      Been off this forum for years. Is it that important that you get an official diagnosis of something? It appears like you had a trigger (wheat, gluten, whatever) and removing it has resolved your symptom. I can't speak for you, but I had known what my trigger was (gluten) years before my diagnosis I would just stay gluten-free and get on with my symptom free...

      IBS-D vs Celiac

      No coincidence. Recent revisions to gluten challenge guidelines call for the daily consumption of at least 10g of gluten (about the amount in 4-6 slices of wheat bread) for a minimum of 3 weeks. If possible, I would extend that two weeks to ensure valid testing.

That would be a problem with the "test" itself. If you were gluten-free and got tested, you more than likely would test "true" negative or just negative. This means that the gluten-free diet is working and no anti-bodies should be present. I know it sounds confusing and if you don't agree feel free to respond.

If I really do have it then they may have increased risk.

I was diagnosed over 20 years ago and have been symptom free only excluding wheat, rye and barley. I tolerate all naturally gluten free whole foods including things like beans which actually helps to form the stools.

      Thank you both for the replies. I decided to bring back gluten so I can do the blood test. Today is Day #2 of the Challenge. Yesterday I had about 3 slices of whole wheat bread and I woke up with urgent diarrhea this morning. It was orange, sandy and had the distinctive smell that I did not have when I was briefly gluten free. I don't know if it's a coincidence, but the brain fog is back and I feel very tired.
