I Got To Eat Chinese Food!

God bless the local Chinese restaurant owner. I came in just before the dinner rush, gave him a crash course in celiac, and he was sooooooo helpful. Not only was he pleasant and very understanding about the severity of the disease and the need for CC precautions, he even offered to make special food for me! He made me fried rice in a clean wok w/o gluteny soy sauce or seasonings :D and I had shrimp with lobster sauce, which is a white sauce thickened with corn starch. needless to say, I was a VERY happy girl. I could tell he got it when he put my food in a separate bag "just to be extra careful" and made sure they didn't even put fortune cookies or those crispy wonton things in with it...now that's careful! His English was excellent, and he was so nice about the whole thing. I was absolutely thrilled to be able to get takeout!

Just wanted to share my experiences!

Very good news!!!!! Sounds like a keeper. ;) If you take your own gluten-free soy sauce, I bet he can prepare almost anything for you.

(this post made me CRAVE chinese food!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I am going to be in CT this summer visiting family. Would you mind sharing the name/location of your wonderful Chinese restaurant? I am salivating as I think about it!

I am jealous! That is one thing that I miss the most and can't seem to replicate at home.

Congrats!! Where in CT are you? There are 2 Chinese restaurants in Westchester (NY) that have very extensive gluten-free menus. One of them is in Rye, so depending where in CT you are, you may be close that one.

Wow--that sounds great! I'm so happy for you--and a tiny bit jealous :D

hehe yes I'm very excited

this was Green Tea in Avon, CT

and I'm not near Westchester, but I have grandparents in Scarsdale so when I go to visit them that could be great...where were they/what were their names?

Yeah Avon is definately not near Westchester (although a really lovely town). Fortunately both of these restaurants are near Scarsdale. The closer one to Scarsdale is in Ardsley. It's called Golden Wok. I actually just came home a little while ago from getting take out from there.

The other one, which is only about 15 minutes (at most) from Scarsdale, is Ray's Cafe in Rye Brook.

Both are incredible. Hope you get to try them next time you are in the area.

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
