Rash On My Finger

I was accidentally glutened on Wednesday night. I started getting acne on my face on Friday, which I know is from the gluten. Now on Sunday my right pinky is breaking out in little itchy water blisters. Again. It itches, I scratch, then it takes a week or more for the skin to heal. This happens a few days after I get glutened but it's relatively new. It didn't start until I went gluten-light a couple of months ago, and now I'm noticing it happens a few days after I get glutened now that I"m 100% gluten-free. It's even stumped my Naturopath. Is this related? Anyone have something similar happen? What can I do? Is 4 days a normal time period for this to happen? Could it be DH and should I call my Dr. and get a biopsy to test for celiac? Oh wouldn't it be nice to have a quick easy test that could show I really am gluten intolerant. *sigh*

This used to happen to me all the time all over my fingers when I worked at summer camp back in the early '90's. I thought it was my dishwashing gloves, but come to think of it, we ate nothing but spaghetti and brownies all summer. The kind of brownies that expanded in your stomach after eating them. Maybe that was gluten too?

Thanks for your input!

I get a rash exactly like that on the fingers of my right hand a few days after I eat any of my allergic foods (gluten, dairy, or soy). It's definitely worst with gluten, and I had it for years before I finally figured out what was causing it. I've always thought it was really strange that it was just on one hand, but I've heard several other people on this board describe something similar. Go figure!

I had this for months before I was diagnosed. The itchy water blisters on the fingers of one hand--after a while I also got them on the inside of my forearm. It hasn't happened since I've been gluten-free, except once. (in over 3 years)

I've been getting itchy little blisters on my hands too. I don't remember that happening before I stopped eating gluten, but then... I was ignoring a lot of things about my body <_<

I saw a dermatologist on Wednesday and she did a biopsy for DH. You could also look up "keratosis pilaris" and "dyshidrotic eczema." All of these seem to be caused by food intolerances.

Thanks everyone. This makes me feel better. :)

mine is caused by wheat and was one of my symptoms as a preteen(but on my foot) and then when my symptoms worsened again, it was one of my first and worst symptoms. horrible, it ate my hand up.

My friend gets it from corn though and my dr says it is definately allergy related.

Have any of you been tested for IGE allergies? I never have been but wonder if I have a wheat allergy too on top of being gluten intolerant or if it is just because wheat has the most.

A skin test was the first thing I did before trying the gluten-free diet! Nothing showed up.

It's not very expensive... definitely worth doing if your rash comes on quickly. Mine takes at least a day to show up.

I have--nothing came up except dust mites and cats. No foods at all, including wheat.

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
