I am tired tired tired of babysitting. Just found out I'm babysitting my FOUR Grandchildren for 14 hours Saturday and 14 hours Sunday, and I'm in a BIG fight with my daughter, because she takes me for granted (she doesn't really, but that's how it hit me this time). I babysat this past Saturday (after having been in two hospitals the previous two days) until FOUR O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING because she never gets to go out and have fun.

She's doing the best she can do and working a killer job - 12 hours on her feet, literally, bathing and moving people who sometimes weigh up to 400 pounds. And she loves them all and talks about them like family, but dammit, I need a FREAKING BREAK from all this! I work my own job, having to tell people they can't have insurance anymore, and I'm not even allowed to tell them I'm sending up a little prayer for them, it tears me to the core to have to do that....it's just awful having to do that. It's not strenuous work, I realize, but it's strenuous on WHO I AM, what kind of person I am.

I haven't felt good or felt FULL since February. So I remembered Tom Cruise in Risky Business, with those sunglasses....."sometimes in life, you just have to say WTF"..

So, on my way home, I said WTF. I stopped and bought me a $15.00 Chuck Sirloin I don't know what kinda steak. Weight says 1.40 lbs. Threw it in my iron skillet, chopped up a whole onion, threw that in there, some S&P and garlic powder, sat down in front of the TV, locked the dog up and ate that whole steak then got me a spoon and ate all the juices.

Then I found these Luigi Italian Ices at The Dollar Tree, ate THREE of those, working on the last one now. I might just go back to the store and get me another one of them steaks.

Now I'm going to color my hair with Revlon #51, Light Brown. And while that's setting in, I'm going to have me a glass or three of wine.

And THAT'S how I feel about that.

So there.....pbffttt!

Seriously, where is Daddy? Shouldn't he have at least every other weekend? Or Daddy's parents? Maybe they would like to babysit? Or divide and conquer with you? 4 small kids is probably too much for a teenager for a few hours and you do the rest. Drink some whine, you're in titled.

The daddy has them the first part of the week, then we have them the second part (incuding the weekend) of the week. He's good, he works 12 hour shifts on the weekends too, so I can't even blame it on him. dammit!

Glad you're taking some "me time" for yourself today :)

Ok now I feel bad cuz I didn't paint my family in a good light. My daughter has been running her fanny off all week, taking me here, taking me there, this hospital, that test, this hospital, that clinic, and never complained once cuz she loves me and I love her. Family is family.

Just this whole past couple of months since these symptoms started have been so hard......you all know it, you all have been there or are there.

But I'm still having my wine and now I'm going to find me a good movie to watch even if I have to pay $6.00 for it on cable. I just feel like pulling out my hair! Especially now that it's darker than it was before I colored it lighter.

And I just KNOW all those tests are gonna come back and say "there's nary a thing in this world wrong with you" and that's got me stressed, too. And if they come back and say I have celiac, I'm going to fall in the floor.

I know, I sound stupid. But also, my daughter's dad has decided to start flirting with me, which I really don't need right now. He don't have the sense God gave a green apple. But boy is he cute. :(

Maybe Grandpa can take some of the baby sitting? Even just take the older ones to the zoo or park or McDs for an hour or 2.

I did remember who was picking you up at work and taking you to the hospital. She probably thought something like this last week but, just like you, is willing to help. :) if I lived closer, I would take a boy for awhile. My boys get a kick out of lil dudes for a short time.

Isn't it always that way with the cute ones! Flirt back and make him sweat a little. ;)

There's one guy I have such a crush on and he's the most irresponsible one around. Forgets appointments, late to everything, that sort of stuff. A friend tells me if we actually dated, I'd kill him for standing me up inside of six weeks. He's right but it doesn't make this fellow any less hot. :D

It sounds like you need to find a 'nanny'. Is there a high school or college close by where you can find someone you can trust to watch the kids for at least a couple of hours? Have them take them to a park or out in the back yard to play. Glad you are giving yourself a bit of treat today. Hope that was a new cast iron skillet or at least one that never had gluten in it.

Oops! It it my Grandmother's from when she got married in 1910.

Cool thing about my Grandmother. She was born in 1894 and passed in 1994.

Connie,

My feelings: You are allowed to lay down some ground rules about when you will baby sit. For your dd or anyone else. You do not need to provide all the weekend care no matter how hard your dd works. It is not your job. It's nice you do babysit but set some limits. She should be spending more time with her kids than other people do. So since there are three adults who care for the kids, you should not have them more than 2 days during the week. Weekends or her days off are time she should spend with her children.

After spending any time in the hospital you should be off for at least two weeks without the kids. You need to recover or you will not be able to help at all.

When I was pregnant (and living in another state), my mom told me not to expect her to babysit.

Now I live about 9 miles from her. Daughter is old enough to stay home by herself for short periods of time.

The only time my mother has ever really babysat was when we were already at their house. I might run to the store for an hour or so. And she and my dad have kept her a few times while I was having some medical tests done.

She did spend the night there a couple of times but my mom invited her.

I would never expect my mom to babysit so I could go out and have fun. I feel I gave that up when I had a kid!

@fatjacksonthecat I have been doing some digging about the topic of nicotine and celiac.  I came across many studies that showed that the nicotine patch helped many with long covid and chronic fatigue syndrome.  I have a son who was diagnosed with celiac and his symptoms are severe when he is glutened.  He shows a lot of neurological inflammation and suffered with fatigue, brain fog, depression, anxiety and insomnia. There have been studies revealing that nicotine smoke actually masking celiac symptoms.  I also read that microdosing with a nictoine patch prevents one from addiction.  We are currently trying this out and so far it has lifted the brain fog and helped with anxiety and mood.  One of the studies I have read showed that it's not so much the dose, but the length of time a person is on the patch that showed improvements.  Many showed significant improvement as early as week 3 and continued through week 12.  We are taking 3 day breaks in between to make sure we don't down regulate the nicotine receptors.   How have things been for you?  Are you still chewing nicotine gum?  Perhaps, try the patch?  And how long did it take to ease up on your symptoms when glutened?

Hi @KathyR37 and a very warm welcome here.  I am so very sorry that you are going through all of this. I just wanted to check, have you ever been tested for any other gastrointestinal conditions? Cristiana

@KathyR37, I would suspect that in addition to gluten intolerance, you have other food intolerances/sensitivities. This is very common in the celiac community. The most common offenders are oats, dairy, soy, corn and eggs with dairy and oats being the big two. Have you considered this? Have you tried keeping a food diary to detect patterns?

thank you for your advice.   I have always taken them and I use Stonehedge because they are in a glass bottle, but don't have to be refrigerated.  I also like they are 3rd party tested and state gluten free. But you never know if something better has come alone over the years.

Thank you for your response. I have already learned about the info you sent but i appreciate your effort. I am the only one in my family cursed by this disease. I have to cook for them too. I make sure that my utensils are free of gluten and clean after using them for other food. I use non-porous pots and pans and  gloves when cooking for them. One huge problem I have is a gag reflex out of this world and if something doesn't taste good it is not going down. Most commercially made breads and such taste like old cardboard.Pastas are about the same. I did find one flour that I like and use it regularly, but it is so expensive! All gluten free food is way more expensive. I only eat twice a day because I cannot afford to buy all that. We live on a very low income so my food purchases are quite limited.
