Just curious i know in the begginning of the diet they say to steer clear of dairy so you can heal properly but it seems like noone here eats dairy atall.I want to know if theres any celiacs out there that successfully eat dairy without reaction and if so how long did it take to get to that point?? Thank youu

GlutenFreeManna Rising Star

After 6 months dairy free I was able to add yogurt and lactose free cheese back into my diet. I'm 11 months gluten free and I still can not tolerate milk though unless it is in a baked good (and that seems to be hit and miss). So I avoid dairy for the most part. No ice cream for me either :(

Some people have problems with lactose, some have problems with casein. Some have no dairy intolerance at all or it's not bad enough for them to give up dairy. If you suspect a problem with dairy, you probably won't know unless you try eliminating it. You can alway eliminate it for about a month then try a little agian and see how you react.

yea i think it may be a problem i eliminated it since i start the diet 2 1/2 months ago added some in and not feeling super great i pray it changes cause this diet is hard enough without dairy.I do have some good changes but am not nearly feeling 100 % i am so limited with what i eat dont go out to eat have my whole house gluten-free and still manage to get sick a couple times a week:(

GFreeMO Proficient

I eat dairy with lactaid tablets. If I don't have the lactaid, I get sick if I have the lactaid, no reaction at all. It's great stuff! Lactaid milk is good too.

i use lactaid milk all the time i used the tablet still had a reaction but i tend to think its the gluten-free macaroni i seemed to react last time to it as well:(

You might need to take 2 tablets. If I eat pizza or ice cream, I need 2. If I just eat something like a little chocolate, I just need to take one.

Maybe the macaroni didn't agree with you, try something else. Maybe a grilled cheese on Udi bread or a little cream cheese on a glutino or something.

Good luck!!!! :)

I used Lactaid for the first 4 or 5 months, but I don't seem to need it anymore. I am tolerating all forms of dairy - milk, cheese, yogurt, ice cream - so some of us can. Good luck!

I couldn't eat cow dairy at first and ate only a little goat and sheep cheese. After a while (probably six or nine months) I was able to eat dairy again. With me it was a cow casein sensitivity. I don't seem to have problems with lactose.

I eat dairy all the time, since as long as I don't go really overboard, it doesn't give me problems. The only time I really feel like I have a dairy issue is if I try to drink a glass of milk - then I don't feel so good. But cheese, yogurt, ice cream, frozen yogurt, chocolate ... yum. So no, not everyone here is dairy free. :)

I had no problem w/ dairy for the first 8 years of being gluten-free. It's only in the last year that dairy's been bothering me and I'll tell ya what... going gluten-free was a lot easier!! Cheese is cheese and butter is butter... there ARE NO SUBSTITUTES... period (ha ha). I avoid most dairy and take the lactaid tablets sometimes.

I cut out dairy for a few weeks to see if it would speed up my healing. I felt zero difference so I added in a small glass of milk every morning and was fine with it. I'm going to wait a couple weeks and then try adding a small bit of cheese or butter everyday. Outside of that 8oz. in the morning, I'm dairy-free and haven't had any adverse reaction. It could be because I'm having it small amounts or I'm just not lactose intolerant. As long as I feel well, I'm keeping the milk. :P

I crave milk and cheese the way some people crave chocolate and sweets. And, I agree, I found it's harder being dairy-free than gluten-free.

I definitely found it more difficult to give up dairy than gluten although I do fine with Lactaid milk and use butter without a problem.

I am craving a slice of Kraft Singles or a grilled cheese sandwich! Heck, maybe I should have one and I'd be half-way prepped for my upcoming colonoscopy in a couple of weeks. ohmy.gif

LOL That would definitely be a more pleasant way to prep for a colonoscopy than drinking that stuff!

My son and I seem to be among the few. We are very sensitive to cc and still we can eat dairy. My son eats more than a half pound of cheese a day. And we go through 4 gallons of milk a week. We get it from a farmer who doesn't feed his cows gluten grains. We couldn't tolerate other milk and cheese.

Stop eating oats as it did give me irritation. The only diffrent thing i have been consuming are a new probitics which seem to have a fruit ive never heard of as a prebiotic

It could well be a new intolerance developing.  Does your diet incorporate pure oats i.e. those safe for coeliac consumption?  I find I can only tolerate a certain amount, same goes for dairy in fact, then I start to get gastric symptoms.   Or have you started consuming a new type of gluten-free bread, or more gluten-free bread than normal, that might contain oats?  I remember reading a post on this forum from a woman who had started to eat a lot of loaves made with oat flour and her coeliac symptoms kicked off again.  I am sure you know this, but some coeliacs cannot tolerate pure oats.

I eat a lot of dairy but its intermittent is this burning so I would assume it would happen all the time. Plus I have been tested for lactose intolerance  etc and I am fine and the other symptoms of that I don't get. As a aside  my dad died last month after a long illness so I wonder if the stress of that might be a influence as a bodily reaction to stress.

You should be fine.  You may start feeling better within a few days.  Someone who is very low in thiamine may notice improvement within hours.   Did you get the NeuroMag  or another magnesium supplement?
