I know that it has been discussed because I have spent hours sifting through posts on here, but I need to know current information... I was at the store and called like 4 diff companies and none of them could guarantee gluten free. Neutrogena had a lip gloss I was really wanting but she said that even though they don't add gluten ingredients to it it may be cross contaminated. Now what? I feel like I've done everything I can, I keep calling and emailing and can't find anything and my lips are pale and in need of some color (and moisture) Help please! I am sensitive to CC so i cant risk getting sick. I also can't afford to pay $50 for lipstick. :unsure:

my question: What product do you use?? what do you KNOW for 1000% is totally safe?

Asking for a gluten-free guarantee is asking for a "no" answer. Most companies do not test their ingredients, or the finished product, so they can not guarantee anything. Even those companies that spend the extra money to test (and cost more as a result) can ONLY make a claim based on the sensitivity of their test. Many test for 20 ppm, some for 10 ppm, and a very few for 5 ppm. There is no test that can prove 0 ppm.

I mean does anyone use products with success? I just don't want to get sick and when a company tell me they share lines with wheat germ and oat containing items it's a real bummer :( I just need a suggestion on what people do know works for them because I dont have celiac friends to ask

Okay, returning to the original question. It was kind of widespread about "lip products," so I thought about cosmetics. I don't use lipsick--probably a "guy" thing. :rolleyes:

I do use Chapstick, especially in the winter when it is dry. There is no ingredient in it that would be a concern, and I have been using it without problems since before my diagnosis in 2000;.

I use Blistex Medicated Lip Balm (in the blue-green tube). Have used it for years and have no problem with it.

I use Burts Bees Super Glossy Lip Shine.

Yeah I use Burt's bees tinted lip colors. I have not called the company but the ingredients sound nice! And it feels very tingly and fresh. Im not one to react though to cc. I'm on the lookout myself for more options on lipstick.

Somebody posted not too long ago that NYC (New York Color) lipsticks are gluten free. They are inexpensive too. I've been using it with no problems at all.

I use Mary Kay lipsticks, but not sure all MK are gluten free. Contact a representative for confirmation.

Here is a recent thread with some tips for you. Use the SEARCH FORUM VIA GOOGLE at the top right corner under your profile and put in lipstick and there are many threads--just check the dates for recent info! This was was just a few months ago and it unlikely much has changed in the formulas since then.

This is my first post and I've recently been diagnosed with celiac disease. Just wanted to thank you all for the great info and thought I'd add a communication I received today from Kiss My Face regarding their lip balms. I don't see a way to attach a .pdf file or I would.

EOS - States Gluten Free right on the package, Burts Bees as well. Just ordered some lip gloss and lipstick and eye shadow from Red Apple Lipstick

      This is a really common area of confusion. Most natural cheeses (cheddar, Swiss, mozzarella, Parmesan, brie, camembert, and most blue cheeses) are inherently gluten-free, and you’re right that the molds used today are typically grown on gluten-free media. The bigger risks tend to come from processed cheeses: shredded cheese (anti-caking agents), cheese spreads, beer-washed rinds, smoke-flavored cheeses, and anything with added seasonings or “natural flavors,” where cross-contact can happen. As for yeast, you’re also correct — yeast itself is gluten-free. The issue is the source: brewer’s yeast and yeast extracts can be derived from barley unless labeled gluten-free, while baker’s yeast is generally safe. When in doubt, sticking with whole, unprocessed cheeses and products specifically labeled gluten-free is the safest approach, especially if you’re highly sensitive.

      Thanks a lot for your response! Can you maybe specify which kind of cheeses I should be cautious about? Camembert/Brie and blue cheeses (the molds of which are nowadays mostly grown on gluten-free media, though, so I've read, right?) or other ones as well? Also, I was under the impression that yeast is generally gluten-free if not declared otherwise. Is that false?

      Hi @trents, yes I've had my levels checked in Dec 2025 which revealed vit D deficiency. I considered eggs although they only contain about 45 IU vitamin D/egg. I need 2000 IU vitamin D for maintenance as per my doctor. Although now, I likely need way more than that to treat the deficiency. My doctor has yet to advise me on dosing for deficiency. I've also considered cod liver oil, although again, if it's processed in a facility that has gluten, especially on flour form, I worried to test it, even if they have protocols in place to mitigate cross-contamination with gluten.
