Is corn meal generally safe? What brand does everyone use. I haven't bought any for about 7 months and I am really missing it.

Yes.

I get my corn meal & grits & masa harina from nuts.com. They have a good certified gluten-free selection of foods. Shipping is pricey, but fast.

You'd think so but many are not. Read the label on a lot of "name brand" corn meal and it will not be safe (wheat). I have found that store brands often are just fine. So that's what I buy.

Thanks everyone.

I bought a store brand and it seems to be fine.

I'll have to check out Nuts.com more. I see they deliver to Canada now.

Wait until you see all the certified gluten-free goodies they have :)

They took it seriously when someone they know was DXed.

Hubs loves their medjool dates! Delicious diced dried fruits for granola bars. They also have veggies chips and gogi power bars.

The nuts are so jumbo and fresh! For a real treat, chocolate covered raisins.(they also have candies--like M&Ms, nonpareils and those chewy things, gummies?) The teff and coconut flours are ground fine for baking and are in resealable bags. The selection is huge. Okay, I'll stop now.....Obviously, I like their products! and they always include a "free treat". Customer service is top-notch. okay, really done now.

(but I am not a paid spokesperson, honest. if only! )

No prob! You got it, sister. ;) Before DX, that was my signature dessert.

Give me a few hours to make dinner and come back and type it all out?

The main key to cornmeal is that the self rising kind will always have wheat flour. Look for pure corn meal... Martha White has a good one.

Sorry, I think I got you mixed up with another poster.

I hadn't been eating gluten free before having the antibody test done. I started eating gluten free after having the test done because the gastro PA told me to eat gluten-free for 6 months. I'm now 3 months in.

I tend to agree with RMJ. Your doc took the reasonable and practical approach to diagnosis. All things considered, it was the right way to go. However, if you have first degree relatives that show signs of possible celiac disease, urge them to get formally tested before they start the gluten free diet.

It sounds like you have a very reasonable GI doctor, who diagnosed you based on family history and symptoms after eating gluten. I would consider you lucky! The other option would be to make yourself very sick by doing weeks of a gluten challenge prior to an endoscopy.

Hi Colleen H,   I suffered with the pins and needles/burning feeling in my legs and feet for at least  6 years until my Nephrologist figured out that I had to go on a low salt diet.  He said my kidneys weren't strong enough to remove the salt.  The simple fix was a diuretic, but that med leaves the uric acid behind, so that wasn't an option.  On the bright side the low salt diet lowered my BP over 20 points and and the pins and needles/burning feeling went away.  Good Luck and hope this helps.
