You don't have to back track on what you posted because someone doesn't agree with you on all counts. You may not have used the words directly but your experience with that waitress could be described as rudeness and arrogance on her part. I have run into that type myself....the ones who profess to know all about Celiac Disease and then go on to stupidly...

I think you need to re-read my post! I made a point of saying that most of my experiences were positive ones but some New Yorkers were arrogant and argumentative. So I stand by what I said and it was a very fair assessment of New York. Many people are very, very nice but when you get the arrogant ones, they take the prize for it.

Nodules can easily be felt by any good physician. I have never had a doctor say to me that I have nodules and my current PCP is very, very thorough...if I had nodules, she wouldn't hesitate to bring it up and advocate more testing. Things may have changed but any scan of the thyroid introduces a radioactive element to the testing and that's not something...

Those tests are no longer needed. The antibody tests, done with the thyroid panel, will tell a person if it is autoimmune thyroid disease. It's a simple blood test!

ARCHIVED Relative Hitting New Lows
Gemini replied to debmidge's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It is about the most infuriating and hurtful thing to have a woman's own mother be so jerky with regards to a diagnosis of Celiac Disease. I know why my mother is the way she is...she also has it and gets absolutely livid if I infer that she does. She was diagnosed with IBS, of course, and when I got my diagnosis, I was all excited to have found an answer... -
I totally agree with you on this! I always refer to the gluten-free diet as the "thinking" persons diet. Even if most gluten-free flours are not supplemented or enriched, any person who can read can supplement on their own, usually with much better quality supplements also. If you eat the fruits and veggies you are supposed to, then fiber won't be an issue...

Sounds like you got the city attitude at that deli! I love large cities and have had mostly great overall experiences in them BUT I have to admit that some native New Yorkers from the city are arrogant and argumentative. Which can be OK because when I am treated like that, my inner Boston b_itch comes out and I can usually match them word for word! ...

ARCHIVED Relative Hitting New Lows
Gemini replied to debmidge's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
This is very good advice! I always find that the family members who co-operate the least are the ones who probably have it also and are in denial about it OR their life isn't as rosy as it may appear so they behave like this out of jealousy. My sister does this and contaminates my food on occasion or ridicules what I eat. She has also rolled her eyes at me... -
You do not have to be out of range with your numbers to have hypothyroid symptoms. There are many who test in the outer regions of normal, not in the optimal range for them, and who can be classified as sub-clinical hypothyroid. This is why so many people complain of symptoms to their doctors and are told they are fine....when they really aren't. I really...

Hey Mtndog.....I was a t Woodman's on Saturday, doing the same thing! I was craving their fried clams so hubby and I headed out and we totally pigged out on fried food. I honestly think their food is the best fried food on the planet. It is a little expensive but considering it is fresh off the boat AND gluten-free, I will gladly pay what is costs to eat...

Thyroid and cortisol interact with each other...it's all a loop system, including the para-thyroid glands. When one component goes off, others may be affected. Female hormones, such as estrogen and progesterone are also involved in this loop system so you can see why it is such a balancing act. Most of the bodies hormones all interact with each other. ...

ARCHIVED Period Of Time Eating Gluten That Then Leads To Other Autoimmune Disease?
Gemini replied to UnhappyCoeliac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yup....I think this is the crucial point that the medical profession is missing. Wheat is SUCH an antagonist to the immune system in many people, and considering that 70% of your immune system is developed in the gut, it would make sense that continued ingestion of wheat is going to place a huge load on the human body. If a person goes many years without... -
ARCHIVED Would You Worry About Cross Contamination With Marijuana?
Gemini replied to lorka150's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Marijuana is not illegal in my state....it's been decriminalized for small amounts. I also do not think it is such a taboo subject. If we as a society continue to glorify drinking, having a discussion about pot is not going to hurt anyone. Besides, most teens are experts on this subject whether they smoke or not...it's everywhere today and sweeping it under... -
ARCHIVED Would You Worry About Cross Contamination With Marijuana?
Gemini replied to lorka150's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This was a very funny post! To answer your question, I trust God! As far as the envelop situation goes, any envelopes made in the US are safe. You do have to check where the source is these days because so many products are made in China but my information is the most up to date and currant from valid Celiac associations. I keep up on these things... -
ARCHIVED Period Of Time Eating Gluten That Then Leads To Other Autoimmune Disease?
Gemini replied to UnhappyCoeliac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think the answer to that is a big mystery. As most people cannot tell when they actually triggered for Celiac and mostly make a guess at when, it may be impossible to set up a time frame. Plus the fact that people are different with regards to the mechanism of acquiring more autoimmune diseases so it could vary from person to person. I think the best... -
ARCHIVED Do Or Can Nerves Affect Celiac?
Gemini replied to Del's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Not really sure what your point was but taking walks is a huge stress reliever and gives a person some breaks from all the daily regimens that must be followed during treatments. You need to step outside and deep breath good air and have the sunshine hit your face for half an hour or so. Obviously if a person is having diarrhea, they should seek medical intervention... -

ARCHIVED Do Or Can Nerves Affect Celiac?
Gemini replied to Del's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
What a beautiful verse, Del! I wish much strength and all the healing powers for you and your hubby. Take a deep breath and go for walks when the stress builds up....it really does help. Bless you both. -
ARCHIVED New Gi Wants And Endoscopy
Gemini replied to Wolicki's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Very true but here's my point....my family is loaded with undiagnosed Celiacs in denial. They do not want to know and have severe (at times) symptoms and have had for as many years as I did. They get their little screenings done, which I find weird considering they refuse to eat a healthy diet, let alone a gluten free one. They all have come back with good... -
I don't think anyone here that offered their opinion were generalizing at all. I think there was genuine interest as to why a Celiac thought they couldn't do jury duty because they have Celiac disease. For the vast majority of people, even those like myself who were deathly ill at the time of diagnosis, once recovery has happened, like to feel they are as...

ARCHIVED New Gi Wants And Endoscopy
Gemini replied to Wolicki's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There are many schools of thought on this and I will offer my experience because it mirrors your own. I was terribly symptomatic for 25 years and was diagnosed via blood work at 46. I was not trusting of the medical profession because they screwed up royally over that time and I ended up diagnosing myself, then confirming it via blood work with my thyroid... -
You are hypothyroid and that alone will cause anemia or lower range iron counts. It's the domino affect. I am going through this right now, trying to find the right dose on a new thyroid med. I am also slightly anemic, which will most likely self correct once I get the thyroid under control. It's very common to be ignored by doctors over thyroid issues...

ARCHIVED Bi-aglut Pasta - Fantastic!
Gemini replied to Eric-C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This is the place I order from and they are fantastic! Talk about instant gratification! -
OK...I cannot resist.....it would be far easier to just serve as a potential juror than to have to do all of this to be excused!

ARCHIVED Chemical Peels Safe?
Gemini replied to kristinnella's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Kristinella...unless you swallowed some of the chemical, there is no need to fear a gluten episode from having a facial done. You could have a topical allergy to an ingredient in the product but that would be more in the lines of a rash or swelling. Gluten cannot pass through the skin and I HIGHLY doubt anyone would get some of the peel into your mouth, if...
