ARCHIVED Anyone On Here In Sales?
gfpaperdoll replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well I am not in sales but I just went to Denver from Houston. For the plane trip to Denver I took baggies of carrots, broccoli, salad dip, canadian bacon cut into fourths, fresh pineapple in a throw away container, banana, pecans & walnuts, small box of raisins, dried apricots & some See's candy that I had purchased the day before. I take an insulated... -

ARCHIVED So Frustrated With My Daugher!
gfpaperdoll replied to Ursa Major's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh Ursa, I feel for you, I have been where you are - heck I am still there, but I have distanced myself somewhat. I know that my family are going to continue to eat gluten, dairy & sugar all the while suffering the effects, yes just because they can. I spent 4 years buying supplies, outfitting their kitchens, sending books, but you know what I have... -
ARCHIVED Help- An Appeal To Veterans Particularly- Reacting Again!
gfpaperdoll replied to oceangirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am weaning myself off fritos. I used to eat them because they taste darn good, they are convenient, you can get them everywhere on the spur of the moment & they are filling. I never had a problem with them. But lately it is hit or miss, sometimes I have a tummy ache when I eat them - enough that I am giving them up, plus I am going more Paleo anyway... -
ARCHIVED Cross Contamination Woes
gfpaperdoll replied to RainyZ's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would not give a young baby like that any processed foods. I really think grain free is the best, but realize there are exceptions - like an occasional treat. I would make any treats my self using ingredients that I was sure were not CC. -
ARCHIVED I Need A List Of What To Get Rid Of In My House Please!
gfpaperdoll replied to katifer's topic in Doctors
I would definitely get rid of the wooden knife block. Stainless steel is the best, I think. I have had a few of my stainless steel pans for 44 years now & they are perfectly fine. Buy just one at a time & get the best you can afford. I like the all stainless steel handle - because then it can also go in the oven. I love the pyrex bowls... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Have A Crystal Ball?
gfpaperdoll replied to frustratedfamily's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
A child as sensitive as yours will need an elimination diet for sure. I do like Enterolab but the best test is dietary response. Your child should probably not have any grains for a bit. I would at first suspect the common allergens, wheat (& oats, barley, & rye & that includes barley malt) eggs, dairy, soy, white potatoes, & nuts.... -
ARCHIVED Needing Some Support
gfpaperdoll replied to kim26's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Just do not get the quaker oats rice cakes, they hace CC, get the Lundberg Rice Cakes instead. please do not give her any oats, they are really bad - even the ones they claim are gluten-free... Gluten Free Pantry Brownies are the universal favorite - not that others are not good... You can make great chocolate chip cookies there are a lot of recipes... -
ARCHIVED Now Really Stuck!
gfpaperdoll replied to shan's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
This idea is lifted from the Paleo forum ... You can take boiled eggs & peel them & then surround them with chopped meat - you could use pork & ground beef etc, or sausage... then you bake them in the oven until the meat is done. I thought that sounded like something that kids would like to make & eat. dip in ketchup - sounds kid friendly... -
ARCHIVED Now Really Stuck!

I am happy to hear you are cutting down or getting rid of the soy. Soy is not good, especailly for a child. Spring rolls are good for breakfast. You can make them ahead & they will keep several days in the refrigerator. also a baked apple is good anythime. Take a glass baking dish & slice an apple in it, sprinkle with cinnamon & maybe a... -
Vomiting & Diarrhea are also signs of appendix problems - if you are still in pain I would also just go to the ER to make sure nothing else is wrong - better to be on the safe side...

ARCHIVED Still Bloated
gfpaperdoll replied to Healthy Girl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would defintely give up the brown rice. I have quit eating so much rice & limit it to a tiny amount of white rice when I go to Pei Wei. I was eating brown rice & had a problem with it. The stuff sure does taste good though!!! I have quit cooking any rice at home & eat more the Paleo way now. But when I did cook rice at home, I only used... -

ARCHIVED Need Help From Ravenwoodglass
gfpaperdoll replied to sandpiper's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
sandpiper, I have a son who should be gluten-free but is not, he has 3 kids that should be gluten-free but they are not. My son already has liver damage, but still he is not gluten-free, his only daughter 9 years old, has lost all the enamel on her teeth... I am only the lowly mother, & all kids know that their mothers know nothing If the above... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge Re:neurological Symptoms
gfpaperdoll replied to jaime1103's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Takala, You Go Girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could not have said it better myself. yep, your docs are giving you the "treatment" all right. Just stop & think, you are gluten free & you are getting better. What would you do if you ate gluten for 3 weeks & you were nearly bedridden you were so ill, & your biopsy was negative? Are you... -
I second the idea that you can creat your own market. Someone around there needs a gluten free babysitter. Do up a spreadsheet of questions that you would want to ask a parent about foods etc & add that to the standard babysitting list. Get ready, be prepared & KNOW that you will succeed. Hard work always pays off. print up some business cards...

I would also not give her processed foods. IS she dairy free? You could read up on the damage that dairy can do to the intestines -

ARCHIVED Still Bloated
gfpaperdoll replied to Healthy Girl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
What types of foods are you eating? Did you clean out your kitchen? Any people in your house eating gluten? You could be getting a small amount of cross contamination. Did you check any meds, vitamins? Are you eating replacement gluten-free bread items? Are you eating Quaker Rice Cakes, Diamond Nut thin Crackers? Those two things each give me a complete... -
ARCHIVED Confused Mom
gfpaperdoll replied to cdmom95's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
re tics, my double DQ1 Enterolab positive grandson that is 12, gets tics. When I see him he usually has a new tic, & sometimes a new sound - he is not gluten-free. He always has an excuse why he is making the tics or the sounds... but I know what they are caused from... My son chooses to pretend that it does not exist. -
ARCHIVED Dna Testing - Dq2 & Dq8
gfpaperdoll replied to AliB's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think which genes you have is very good information to have. You are correct, the only the docs care about is if you have a positive biopsy. Those that have positive biopsy are never tested to see which genes they have. Also, those that have negative biopsy do not get gene tests either. AND, only two labs in the U.S. test for the gluten intolerant... -
ARCHIVED Need Advice On Youngest Daughter
gfpaperdoll replied to confused's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I feel for you, the stepson issue is not an easy one. Can you muster up the resolve to take the whole house gluten-free? Are you gluten-free?, seems like I remember that you are. I would test your daughter thru Enterolab, if you can afford that. Then I would take her gluten-free whatever the results. You should see an immediate improvement... -
ARCHIVED Friends/family Who Just Don't Care
gfpaperdoll replied to mrsry's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Most people are just too busy with their own lives to care what we can or cannot eat. If it is brought to their attention, they just do not get it. & I will say that I can see that. The government is huge & has spent a lot of money to convince us how healthy wheat and dairy is for us. Most people cannot think anything else. I am slowly coming... -
ARCHIVED Ok, Need Some Advice
gfpaperdoll replied to GlutenFreeAl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
you probably have gluten intolerance, not a good thing to have as you can see. I suggest testing thru Enterolab.com for your husbands peace of mind... If he has health issues, I would also test him!!!
