  1. I have been glutenfree since Valentine's Day 2004. Once I got my husband to understand it, I found it to be a very easy diet to follow. Feeling so much better has helped!
  2. How sad that it has to be done that way now.
  3. I work in a convenience store that has a deli. None of the meats that we sell have gluten in them, so check the labels of what your's sells. When I have to make sandwiches, I wear gloves and never touch the bread or hold it near my face. I wipe the sandwich counters with a wet paper towel, and never put my own food on it. As for working in the bakery...
  4. You are describing the way my great-nephew behaves. I believe he needs to be glutenfree, but my family refuses to believe that gluten could cause such behaviour. I hope your son continues to improve.
  5. My older sister came and visited me for 2 weeks last summer. She ate glutenfree like me for the entire 2 weeks, and all-I mean ALL- of her gi issues cleared up and her blood sugars stabilized. As soon as she went home, she went back to eating gluten. She knows she is at the very least intolerant, but refuses to do anything about it. She knows that our...
  6. Hi DM! I hope all goes well for you. The little store sounds like it might be a dream!
  7. I think most of us have felt like hypochondriacs at one time or another, until we got a diagnosis. Make sure you tell your new GI about your dietary challenge, how you felt before, during, and after. Please keep in mind that the dietary challenge itself is a test, and that feeling better while on it gives a positive answer. It does not tell you the proper...
  8. We are a great group of people, you are in such excellent company! And ditto RavenWood, have him log in and check out the teen section. It could become an opportunity for him to make some wonderful friends!
  9. My concern about gluten in the lubricant would be that my skin breaks out when I touch gluten. Definitely call or email the company and ask about it.
  10. My most recent one was ice cream sandwiches. I think the nightmares or dreams are because we are aware of our dietary limitations, and have successfully ingrained the need to stay glutenfree into our subconscious. Our subconscious, however, insists on reminding us of tastes we would rather forget. In my dreams, however, I react by spitting out the food...
  11. It sounds like your other cats know that something is wrong with her, and they are trying to move her to the bottom of the pride. You will have to intervene for her, and I agree with using the waterbottle. Cats don't like the Sky Water Gods (I love that phrase!), and will soon realize that the Queen of the Pride, you, will not allow the fighting. I also...
  12. I will have to check my local Wal Mart!
  13. I was 40 when I was diagnosed, so I do not think 8 is too old.
  14. My family wouldn't dare be rude to me about it. My mother died from not treating it, and they all know it. For those that are rude, I like to be rude right back. I offer to come to their house after consuming gluten and crap all over their furniture. I also make sure they know that I will use their knives to slit my wrists and draw in the blood all over...
  15. Thanks Rachelle, I wondered about that, too.
  16. Hi Molly! Yay!
  17. Sad to say, but it is very possible that celiac caused all of your problems. Undiagnosed, a lot of damage gets done. The body begins to attack itself, which could very well be what happened to you. In me, my joints were attacked. In my mom, her entire intestinal tract was attacked.
  18. I also included printouts of research showing what gluten does to a celiac. That way, I was able to refresh my memory whenever I got depressed and went into denial about it.
  19. I did not have typical symptoms of celiac, but an endoscopy showed damage to villi. The blood test must have showed something to your doctor for him to send you to the gastro doctor. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
  20. Welcome back! I am just starting to find Glutino's and Pamela's in my area, and I am really enjoying them.
  21. I will try the Chebe mix. I like the crust soft, but thin.
  22. I'm glad to hear they are making an effort, but I would be very afraid of cross-contamination.
  23. This is true, Lisa, very true. My first symptom of being glutened with wheat is sinus congestion. That's all, just sinus congestion. The other symptoms don't hit until a week later. With barley, however, the pain and diarrhea start within an hour. I have also heard that some celiacs can consume small amounts of gluten every now and then without getting...
  24. Sad to say, but my rear was fat before I was diagnosed. Glutenfree flours have more calories than wheat flour, so that did not help me at all. Sparkpeople has a free online calorie/exercise tracker you might want to try.
  25. The split pea and ham is quite delicious. Some of the new V-8 soups are glutenfree, as well. They are wicked expensive, though, so I only buy them when I have a coupon.
