  1. My mom was 4'11", and swore up and down that she was 5', since anything less than 5' is legally a midget! I am 5'1", and have been since I was 16. My kids have all grown taller than me now! Most everyone on my mom's side is shorter than average, so it could be genetic, but that is where the celiac is from, so it could also be that!
  2. Nini, my husband double-dips all the time in our condiments, so I use aquirt bottles for the ketchup and mustard, and put MY peanut butter in a child's sippy cup (left over from having a home daycare) with the lid on it. He uses the jar, I use the sippy cup. It is too "babyish" for him to even consider using! I just use a bit of plastic wrap under the...
  3. Kraft brand jello and pudding is the only brand I eat now. I have never had a reaction to it.
  4. Since you have been glutenfree for a year, you could also try a "self-test" of the food. By that I mean eat a bit of gluten, and see how you react. If it makes you sick, then you will know not to eat it. If it does not make you sick, then you will know to find a doctor that will run more tests. The face swelling and itching part sounds more like an allergy...
  5. My gluten-free flour mix is 1 cup each of garbanzo bean flour, pancake flour/starch, tapioca flour, and corn starch. Use 1/2 cup of the mix, add 1/4 tsp each of baking soda and baking powder, a shake or two of salt, 2 tsp vegetable oil, 1/2 tsp honey, and 2 ounces of 2% milk. Stir it well, it will be thick. Spoon onto hot frying pan, turn burner down a...
  6. Thanks for the recipe, Donna! Always nice to know what else can be done to satisfy that chocolate tooth!
  7. In regards to the baby wipes causing diaper rash on your child: my husband sometimes paints agricultural equipment at work, and he comes home with the paint on his hands, arms, and face. The best thing we found to remove the paint is baby wipes! Whatever is in those wipes, must be some strong stuff, so I am not surprised that it is too harsh for some tender...
  8. A 12 hour fast is not long enough to change the results of the blood test. Good luck with it!
  9. I watch all things that I use. Soap is included in what I check, simply because I have such a myriad of skin allergies.
  10. >drool<Hershey's chocolate syrup!>sssllluuurrrppp<
  11. Sounds like your husband has been showing signs and symptoms of celiac or at least gluten intolerance. Since celiac messes up the small intestine, it also messes with blood sugar levels. It could be that part of his diabetes is actually because of the gluten problem. I'm glad he is feeling better!
  12. I like it just the way it is. View New Posts takes me to posts I haven't read since the last time I was on. It is very easy for me to navigate the board!
  13. I don't eat anything from Subway, as I have no way of verifying the ingredients, and there are always bread crumbs all over everywhere.
  14. I tested my egg allergy to see if it went away with healing, and the answer is "no". A great big emphatic NO!!! How depressing it was for me!
  15. Yoplait Yogurt, Yum!!
  16. Sorry, Michelle, I don't think you are going to die. I had the same kind of pains after my biopsy, I just figured it was because samples were "cut" out of my intestines. Try eating a soft, low-residue diet for a week. It helped me muchly to eat that way!
  17. Passing mucous in my stools is also a sign for me that I need to take my antihistamines. It means that my allergies are on the prowl.
  18. I gain weight with gluten. It is the main reason my regular doc told me I couldn't possibly have celiac. Biopsy proved otherwise to her!
  19. Most genetic modifications right now are to make the plant drought and pest resistant, and make it produce more. I'm not sure crossing gluten grain plants with nongluten grain plants would work. You can't take pollen from just any plant and use it to pollinate a totally different plant, it doesn't usually take. However, I don't put it past scientists to...
  20. Maltodextrin in vitamins and otc meds can be made of wheat. That is the biggest contamination problem I get with meds and supplements.
  21. I had to buy a new mouse just recently, and it did not need any software. I bought just a plain mouse, like the one I had before. Did you buy a fancier one?
  22. Mela, I do feel for you! If my food, ordered plain, had come with seasoning on it, I would have sent it back to the kitchen. The waiter arguing about it would have meant a visit with the manager. There was no excuse for you not to get your food the way you wanted it. Rest, and get better!
  23. Have fun, and enjoy yourself!
  24. Cheating is not an option for me. Accidental gluten contamination makes me very ill, why would I want to do it on purpose? My sister, on the other hand, knows how much better she feels without gluten, but she "just can't stand" going without her favorite foods, and I "just don't understand what it's like to not be able to eat whatever I want." My mom probably...
  25. Wooden spoons and cutting boards are also bacteria traps. Wood is a naturally porous product, it absorbs whatever it is in contact with.
