  1. Altoid gum has gluten in it. Trident , I believe is ok, and most others , but there are a lot of new gums out now, one is a dragonfruit cube gum- it has gluten in it. Sorry not an exhaustive list but the altoid one was my first experience with a glutened gum after that I started looking at the little tiny writing on the wrapper.
  2. The Gluten Free Kitchen has the best tasting corn bread, biscuits and cinnamon rolls that I have tasted in 2 years. My family like all of these = I come from a biscuit and gravey back ground and this is pretty good. Some times I add a little rice flour to put a little more texure in some of but not really necessary.
  3. 2 years and still gaining-was working out for a while and still gained weight, everyone around me says muscle is heavier, unfortunately fat also weighs more as it gets bigger. I can look at food and gain, so I started eating what I was looking at. I still think that my body is just holding on to every single calorie that I eat so it wont starve again...
  4. I'm the only one in my family that has celiac, we all look the same, heavy. I lost weight while eating gluten, since going gluten free my body has "glomed " on to every single calorie that has come it's way, my body didn't like starving to death and will not let me repeat the process.
  5. I've eaten cracker jacks and haven't had a problem.
  6. I looked up gevalia in the CSA guide it is a company of Kraft, according to CSA they will list all wheat barley and oats on their lables. I really do drink it regularly.
  7. Yep, sulfites. I have a headache, get red in the face and really tired. I usually have seltzer with a twist of lime.
  8. IS THERE ANYTHING OUT THERE THAT YOU CAN STICK IN FOOD TO SEE IF IT HAS GLUTEN IN IT OR NOT? I THINK THAT WOULD BE A GREAT INVENTION, IF I had a clue how to do it , I would. Not my field , science.
  9. I made the little coctail weenies wrapped in biscuit dough, the youngsters at the party enjoyed them, another popular item were the dates stuffed with monteray jack cheese wrapped in bacon. They all were pretty good. have fun.

  11. I drink it daily and was told it was gluten free.
  12. When we go out I ususally order pretty plain stuff, but on cape cod you could have lobster= it is gluten free. If you are ordering something kind of plain just mention that you cannot eat wheat or gluten, and remember the croutons - I forget to mention them a lot . If there is a sauce ask the waiter and he will ask the cook. Generally people are very helpful...

  14. I made one batch of cookies without xanthum gum and one with,, the one with was moister and had a better texture and wasn't as hard. I will keep using the xanthum gum.
  15. I get really cranky if I don't have a plan , I like to have something I can enjoy while others enjoy their treats. I'm getting better at making almost everything gluten-free.
  16. I work at a Star market , part of Albertsons. There are more and more people buying gluten-free products and as that number increases the choices of items are growing. I worked in a smaller store for years, and they had pasta , cookies, flour ,xanthum gum and a lot of basics, I was transfered to a larger store and can buy frozen pizza dough, english muffins...
  17. Kidney stone, went septic, anemic, 6 pints of blood, intensive care 4 days, hystorectemy(sp) lost 60 pounds in 3 months, 54 years old. Diagnosed about 1 year later, after losing most of my muscle tone and energy. Good Times
  18. The barley malt is listed but not as an allergen. I"m old, I like the big letters that say WHEAT MILK stuff like that not the little tiny ones that say barleymalt. Sorry for the inconvienience.
  19. If you feel better and stronger gluten-free , tell them it can be much worse-my family is pretty much gluten free, they eat out when I'm at work and eat regular pizza from a parlor, they watched me turn into a person that couldn't lift a 3 pound weight, and nearly die. Great Alternative- ask them they are more than happy to be gluten free.
  20. The problem that I've found with chocolate is BARLEY MALT not listed because it is not a major allergen, like contains NUTS and milk. Lindt chocolates sometimes have barley malt in them....that is what I look for now in chocolate of all types.
  21. could be sulfites in the wine.
  22. I've tried the boxed decadent chocolate cake and it is good. I have made a flourless chocolate cake that is very moist and delicious, it isn't too involved but harder than the boxed.
